A state-based peridynamic model is able to describe a general constitutive model from the standard continuum theory. The response of a material at a point is dependent on the deformation of all bonds connected to the point within the nonlocal horizon region. Therefore, the state-based peridynamic model permits both the volume and shear changes of the material which is promising to reproduce the complicated dynamic brittle fracture phenomena, such as crack branching, secondary cracks, cascade cracks, crack coalescence, etc. In this paper, the two-dimensional state-based peridynamic model for a linear elastic plane stress solid is employed. The damage model incorporates the energy release rate and the peridynamic energy potential. For brittle glass materials, the impact of the crack-parallel compressive stress waves on the crack branching pattern is investigated. The peridynamic solution for this problem captures the main features, observed experimentally, of dynamic crack propagation and branching. Cascade cracks under strong tensile loading and secondary cracks are also well reproduced with the state-based peridynamic simulations.
In this paper, we studied efficient modeling strategies when we simulate the 3D time-domain acoustic wave propagation using a cell-based finite difference method which can handle the variations of both P-wave velocity and density. The standard finite difference method assigns physical properties such as velocities of elastic waves and density to grid points; on the other hand, the cell-based finite difference method assigns physical properties to cells between grid points. The cell-based finite difference method uses average physical properties of adjacent cells to calculate the finite difference equation centered at a grid point. This feature increases the computational cost of the cell-based finite difference method compared to the standard finite different method. In this study, we used additional memory to mitigate the computational overburden and thus reduced the calculation time by more than 30 %. Furthermore, we were able to enhance the performance of the modeling on several media with limited density variations by using the cell-based and standard finite difference methods together.

The characteristics of ground vibration have been analyzed by test blasting in southern region of Jeju (layered ground consisting of basalt and clinker). By grasping the principal component of ground vibration and depriving the prediction equations of ground vibration, the propagation characteristics of ground vibration have been compared to the domestic design guidelines. Ground vibration in layered ground has a small amplitude at a short distance. However, it has been confirmed that the vibration energy is transmitted further by virtue of the low attenuation of the ground vibration as it goes to a longer distance. Moreover, the frequency has been confirmed to be low frequency band. The outcome has been defined that it resulted because the clinker layer with a large pore transforms the blasting energy seismic wave with high frequency into a low frequency wave having a long waveform period. In addition, the limits of design guidelines were identified by comparing the ground vibration of Jeju and other bedrock areas. Thus, the necessity of the development of the prediction equations of ground vibration utilized in design that reflect the characteristics of the area has been suggested.

The purpose of this paper was to develop a nondestructive evaluation method of sintered material by ultrasonic method. The density distribution of sintered material becomes inhomogeneous partially because of the friction between the powder and the die during compaction. The inhomogeneity was investigated by measurement of the energy attenuation coefficient and the shift of the center frequency in the frequency spectrum of the ultrasonic reflection echo. The experimental results showed that the center frequency of reflection wave depended linearly on the density of sintered materials. However, the attenuation coefficient decreased inversely as the density increased. This study shows that the shift of the center frequency in the frequency spectrum of reflection wave can be used to a nondestructive evaluation of sintered materials.

One of the major difficulties in the seismic analysis of a dam-reservoir system is the treatment of the energy radiation in the upstream direction of the reservoir. In the paper, a new transmitting boundary is presented that can model properly the radiation of energy in the far field direction of a semi-infinite reservoir with constant depth. In the newly developed method, effects of surface wave motion are taken into accounted and the reservoir-foundation interaction is approximately accounted for with an absorbing boundary condition. If a dam has vertical upstream face and the infinitely long reservoir maintains constant depth, then the proposed transmitting boundary can be directly coupled with the model of dam body. In present study, the dam body is assumed to behave elastically and modeled by finite element method. Seismic responses of a dam model are investigated using the newly developed transmitting boundary.

In this paper, the analytic studies on the wave control performance of moored pontoon-type floating breakwater are presented. A two-dimensional eigenfunction expansion method is adopted to study the motion responses and the transmission coefficients of pontoon-type floating breakwater in beam waves. The stiffness coefficients of mooring line are idealized as linear elastic spring. Comparison of the analytical results with a numerical results (FEM) shows good agreement over a wide range of frequencies. The performance of mooed pontoon-type floating breakwater is tested with various design parameters such as sectional geometry, mooring line characteristics and wave frequencies. It is found that the properly designed floating breakwater can be an effective wave control structure.
The rock excavation work by doing blasting breaks the rock by using a shock pressure and gas pressure produced when explosive explodes and the shock wave by shock pressure propagated three-dimensionally from the exploding center is on the decrease notably to the distance, however, $0.5{\sim}20%$ of energy produced by blasting propagates into the ground outside a crack zone by the shape of an elastic wave, on the ground it appears as a ground vibration with a seismic amplitude and a seismic cycle, it is called a blasting vibration. on the other side, what propagated in the air is called a blasting sound. The blasting sound of both means the things which the shock sound within the range the audible frequency($20{\sim}20000Hz$) of the elastic wave in the air influences the response system of a human body, it doesn't harm physically to any structures but influences unreasonably a work accomplishment, such as a work discontinuance due to the outbreak of a public complaint by a mental pain, reduction of a blasting scale, etc.. So, this study is examined at about 20 sites on the installation time and method of soundproofing facilities for reduction of the sound accompanied with a tunnel blasting work.
For gas hydrate exploration, long offset multichannel seismic data acquired using by the 4km streamer length in Ulleung basin of the East Sea. The dataset was processed to define the BSRs (Bottom Simulating Reflectors) and to estimate the amount of gas hydrates. Confirmation of the presence of Bottom Simulating reflectors (BSR) and investigation of its physical properties from seismic section are important for gas hydrate detection. Specially, faster interval velocity overlying slower interval velocity indicates the likely presences of gas hydrate above BSR and free gas underneath BSR. In consequence, estimation of correct interval velocities and analysis of their spatial variations are critical processes for gas hydrate detection using seismic reflection data. Using Dix's equation, Root Mean Square (RMS) velocities can be converted into interval velocities. However, it is not a proper way to investigate interval velocities above and below BSR considering the fact that RMS velocities have poor resolution and correctness and the assumption that interval velocities increase along the depth. Therefore, we incorporated Migration Velocity Analysis (MVA) software produced by Landmark CO. to estimate correct interval velocities in detail. MVA is a process to yield velocities of sediments between layers using Common Mid Point (CMP) gathered seismic data. The CMP gathered data for MVA should be produced after basic processing steps to enhance the signal to noise ratio of the first reflections. Prestack depth migrated section is produced using interval velocities and interval velocities are key parameters governing qualities of prestack depth migration section. Correctness of interval velocities can be examined by the presence of Residual Move Out (RMO) on CMP gathered data. If there is no RMO, peaks of primary reflection events are flat in horizontal direction for all offsets of Common Reflection Point (CRP) gathers and it proves that prestack depth migration is done with correct velocity field. Used method in this study, Tomographic inversion needs two initial input data. One is the dataset obtained from the results of preprocessing by removing multiples and noise and stacked partially. The other is the depth domain velocity model build by smoothing and editing the interval velocity converted from RMS velocity. After the three times iteration of tomography inversion, Optimum interval velocity field can be fixed. The conclusion of this study as follow, the final Interval velocity around the BSR decreased to 1400 m/s from 2500 m/s abruptly. BSR is showed about 200m depth under the seabottom

The sedimentary environment and sediment were surveyed at the West-Northern site of Chagwi-do nearby Jeju Island for the design of the embedded suction anchor system of 10 MW-class floating wave-offshore wind hybrid power generation system. According to the classification scheme of Chough et al.[2002], the echo type of the seismic profiles using the chirp III was classified. As a results, the center and west-northern area of survey site were proved to be type I-3 where subbottom layer with thickness 5~15 m exists under the flat seafloor. On the other hands, the east-southern area were regarded to be type I-1, I-2 and III-1 where seafloor reflection is much stronger than type I-3. Also, the physical tests (unit weight, moisture content, grain size, liquid limit, specific gravity) were performed with samples taken from 8 fixed locations. It is found that the sand (SP), the sand blended with silt (SM) and the mixture of SP-SM are distributed uniformly on the survey area.
