The elution behavior of copper(Ⅱ) and iron(Ⅱ) ions by phenol sulfonic acid(PSA) as an eluent on chelating resin, Amberlite IRC-718 have been investigated. When copper(Ⅱ) and iron(Ⅱ) solutions were adsorbed on the resin and eluted with various concentration of PSA, two peaks of each ion were appeared in the elution curve. These two peak areas were changed according to the PSA concentration. Using these phenomena, the stability constants of complex formation between the two ions and PSA were calculated. The values are 7.0 for copper(II) and $4.5{\times}10^4$ for iron(II), respectively.
4-pyrimidylideneacetonitrile derivatives containing $BF_2$-chelate have been synthesized from H-chelates of 4-pyrimidylideneacetonitrile derivatives and boron trifluoride diethyl etherate. These H-chelates were prepared by the electrophilic substitution of 2-cyanomethylpyridine derivatives with electrophiles such as 4,6-dichloropyrimidine, 4,6-dichloro-2-methylpyrimidine, 4,6-dichloro-2-heptadecylpyrimidine, 4,6-dichloro-2-phenylpyrimidine, 4,6-dichloro-5-phenylpyrimidine and 4,6-dichloro-2,5-diphenylpyrimidine. Structures of the target molecules were identified by spectra methods.
2,2'-iminodibenzoic acid-cellulose was prepared by reacting 2,2'-iminodibenzoic acid salt with cellulose-Cl obtained by chlorination of cellulose-OH which is the major component of sawdust. The adsorptivity of Pb(II) and Cu(II) was studied using the synthetic chelating adsorbent. The adsorption amounts of those ions increased with increasing pH and the optimum adsorption time of metal ion was about 1hr. The adsorptivity of Pb(II) was larger than that of Cu(II).

A major problem of nuclear energy is the production of radioactive wastes. Needs for more environmentally favorable method to decontaminate radioactive contaminants make the use of liqui $d^ercritical $CO_2$ as a solvent medium. In removing radioactive metallic contaminants under $CO_2$ solvent, two methods - use of chelating ligands and that of water in $CO_2$ emulsion-are possible. In the chelating ligand method, a combination of ligands that can make synergistic effects seems important. We discuss about the properties of microemulsion formed by F-AOT and that by non-ionic surfactant. By adding acid in water core, decontamination of metallic parts, soils were possible. The rate of metal surface dissolution to the microemulsion solution was measured by QCM. The possibility of recovering the surfactants after use is also mentioned.ed.
The sorption and desorption properties of U(VI), Th(IV), Zr(IV), Cu(II), Pb(II), Ni(II), Zn(II), Cd(II) and Mn(II) ions on XAD-16-[4-(2-thiazolylazo)orcinol] (TAO) chelating resin were studied by elution method. The effect was examined with respect to overall capacity of each metal ion, separation of mixed metal ions, flow rate and concentration of buffer solution for optimum condition of sorption. The overall capacities of some metal ions on this chelating resin were 0.35nmol U(VI)/g resin, 0.49nmol Th(IV)/g resin, 0.41nmol Cu(II)/g resin, and 0.31nmol Zr(IV)/g resin, respectively. The elution order of metal ions obtained from breakthrough capacity and overall capacity at pH 5.0 was Th(IV)>Cu(II)>U(VI)>Zr(IV)>Pb(II)>Ni(II)>Zn(II)>Mn(II)>Cd(II). The group separation of mixed metal ions was possible by increasing pH in pH range 2~5 at a flow rate of 0.28mL/min. Characteristics of desorption were investigated with desorption agents such as $HNO_3$, HCl, $HClO_4$, $H_2SO_4$, and $Na_2CO_3$. It was found that 2M $HNO_3$ showed high desorption efficiency to most of metal ions except Zr(IV) ion. Also, desorption and recovery of Zr(IV) ion were successfully performed with 1M $H_2SO_4$. Recovery of trace amount of U(VI) ion from artificial sea water was over 94%. The chelating resin, XAD-16-TAO was successfully applied to group separation of rare earth metal ions from U(VI) by using 2M $HNO_3$ as an eluent.

The new chelating resins, XAD-2, 4, 16-TAC and XAD-2, 4, 16-TAO were synthesized by Amberlite XAD-2, XAD-4, and XAD-16 macroreticular resins with 2-(2-thiazolylazo)-p-cresol(TAC) and 4-(2-thiazolylazo)orcinol(TAO) as functional groups and were characterized by elemental analysis and FT-IR spectrometry. It was found that the content of functional group in chelating resin was 0.60mmol/g in XAD-16-TAC and 0.68mmol/g in XAD-16-TAO respectively. The chelating resins were stable in acidic and alkaline solution and can be reused over 10 times. The sorption behavior of some metalions to two chelating resins was investigated by batch method, which included batch equilibrium, effect of pH, coexisting ions and masking agent. For the optimum condition of sorption, the time required for equilibrium was about 1 hour and optimum pH was 5. In the presence of anions such as ${SO_4}^{2-}$ and $CH_3COO^-$, the sorption of U(VI) ion was slightly reduced but other anions such as $Cl^-$ and $NO{_3}^-$ revealed no interference effect. Also, sorption capacity of U(VI) ion was decreased by addition of $CO{_3}^{2-}$ ion because of complex formation of $[UO_2(CO_3)_3]^{4-}$, but alkali metals and alkali earth metals including Na(I), K(I), Mg(II), and Ca(II) were not affected for the sorption extent. Masking agent, NTA showed better separation efficiency of U(VI) ion from coexisting metal ions such as Th(IV), Zr(IV), Hf(IV), Cu(II), Cd(II), Pb(II), Ni(II), Zn(II) and Mn(II) than EDTA, CDTA.

This study implemented a chelating agent (Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid, EDTA) in purification to obtain high-purity vanadium pentoxide (V2O5) for use in VRFB (Vanadium Redox Flow Battery). V2O5 (powder) was produced through the precipitation recovery of ammonium metavanadate (NH4VO3) from a vanadium solution, which was prepared using a low-purity vanadium raw material. The initial purity of the powder was estimated to be 99.7%. However, the use of a chelating agent improved its purity up to 99.9% or higher. It was conjectured that the added chelating agent reacted with the impurity ions to form a complex, stabilizing them. This improved the selectivity for vanadium in the recovery process. However, the prepared V2O5 powder exhibited higher contents of K, Mn, Fe, Na, and Al than those in the standard counterparts, thus necessitating additional research on its impurity separation. Furthermore, the vanadium electrolyte was prepared using the high-purity V2O5 powder in a newly developed direct electrolytic process. Its analytical properties were compared with those of commercial electrolytes. Owing to the high concentration of the K, Ca, Na, Al, Mg, and Si impurities in the produced vanadium electrolyte, the purity was analyzed to be 99.97%, lower than those (99.98%) of its commercial counterparts. Thus, further research on optimizing the high-purity V2O5 powder and electrolyte manufacturing processes may yield a process capable of commercialization.
This study was designed to evaluate the usability of the following citrus peel extracts (CPEs): Citrus sinensis (orange), C. unshiu (mandarin orange), C. limon (lemon), and C. paradise (grapefruit) as natural antibrowning agents. Overall, 0.1% of the CPEs were effective in reducing the browning of apple slices. The appearance of apple slices dipped in C. limon peel extracts (LPE) were found to be excellent and their Hunter L and ${\Delta}E$ values were similar to the values obtained when apple slices were dipped in ascorbic acid. The pH values of the different CPEs were not significantly different from each other, but were higher than that of ascorbic acid. LPE was found to possess the highest total phenolic content, flavonoid content, DPPH radical scavenging activity, and copper ($Cu^{2+}$) chelating activity. All these results suggest that citrus peel extracts, especially lemon peel extract, can be used as natural antibrowning agents.
