  • Ti/Steel 클래드 판재를 제조하기 위하여 티타늄과 강판을 직접 접합하는 경우 접합 계면에 취성이 강한 금속간화합물 및 TiC 탄화물이 발생하여 계면접합강도를 저하시키는 단점이 있다. 이러한 단점을 보완하기 위하여 본 연구에서는 티타늄과 강판 사이에 니켈 박판을 삽입한 후 1223-1323K 온도구간에서 접합 실험하였다. 특히, 온도의 변화에 따라 티타늄과 강판의 계면에 발생되는 금속간화합물의 종류 및 반응층의 크기 변화에 따른 기계적 특성을 조사하였다.

Design of double-clad, dispersion-compensating single-mode fiber with parabolic-index profile for $\lambda$=1.55 $\mu$m ($\lambda$=1.55 $\mu$m에서 포물선분포-이중클래드, 분산보상 단일모드 광섬유의 설계)

  • We design the single mode dispersion-compensating fibers (DCF) which may be necessary for upgrading the previously installed 1.31 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ optical communication system to the 1.55 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ system. To obtain the optimum index profile that allows large negative dispersion at 1.55 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, parabolic-index, double-clad fibers are analyzed by applying the 1-D FEM to the scalar wave equation of optical fibers. In constideration of macro-bending loss, the fibers are designed so that the cutoff wavelength of the $LP_{01}$ mode is greateer than 1.80 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. The computer simulations show that the lower bound of the dispersion at 1.55 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ is limited to about -120 ps/nm . km for the fiber index profiles satisfying the $LP_{01}$'s cutoff condition.

  • A multi-branch thermo-optic switch has a problem that driving powers in the switching states are different from each other; the power consumption for the inner output port is more than twice as large as that form the outer output port. In this pater, to solve this problem unequal width heaters and the waveguide structure with a thin overcladding layer are proposed in a four-branch thermo-optic switch. The proposed structure is fabricated with the polymer materials with high index difference, Teflon and polyimides. The fabricated device was measured at the wavelength of 1550 nm. The measured characteristics exhibit the smaller difference in the power consumption between the switching states and the driving power les than the previous four-branch thermo-optic switch with equal width heaters. As for the device performance, the crosstalk is better than - 16 dB at about 310 ~ 390 mW, the insertion loss is 4.7 dB, and the switching time is less than 1 ms.

  • The reactor pressure vessel(RPV) is usually cladded with stainless steel to prevent corrosion and radiation embrittlement, and a number of subclad cracks have been found during an in-service-inspection. These subclad cracks should be assured for a safe operation under normal conditions and faulted conditions such as pressurized thermal shock(PTS). Currently available integrity assessment procedure for an RPV, ASME Code Sec. XI, are built on the basis of linear fracture mechanics (LEFM). In PTS condition, however, thermal stress and mechanical stress give rise to high tensile stress at the cladding and elastic-plastic behavior is expected in this area. Therfore, ASME Code Sec. XI is overly conservative in assessing the structural integrity under PTS condition. In this paper, the fracture parameter (stress intensity factor, K, and RT(sub)NDT) from elastic analysis using ASME Sec. XI and finite element method were validated against 3-D elastic-plastic finite element analyses. The difference between elastic and elastic-plastic analysis became significant with increasing crack depth. Therfore, it is recommended to perform elastic-plastic analysis for the accurate assessment of subclad cracks under TPS which causes plastic deformation at the cladding.

Effect of Pre-Heat Treatment on Bonding Properties in Ti/Al/STS Clad Materials (Ti/Al/STS 클래드재의 접합특성에 미치는 예비 열처리의 영향)

  • Titanium/aluminum/stainless steel(Ti/Al/STS) clad materials have received much attention due to their high specific strength and corrosion-resisting properties. However, it is difficult to fabricate these materials, because titanium oxide is easily formed on the titanium surface during heat treatment. The aim of the present study is to derive optimized cladding conditions and thereupon obtain the stable quality of Ti/Al/STS clad materials. Ti sheets were prepared with and without pre-heat treatment and Ti/Al/STS clad materials were then fabricated by cold rolling and a post-heat treatment process. Microstructure of the Ti/Al and STS/Al interfaces was observed using a Scanning Electron Microscope(SEM) and an Energy Dispersed X-ray Analyser(EDX) in order to investigate the effects of Ti pre-heat treatment on the bond properties of Ti/Al/STS clad materials. Diffusion bonding was observed at both the Ti/Al and STS/Al interfaces. The bonding force of the clad material with non-heat treated Ti was higher than that with pre-heat treated Ti before the cladding process. The bonding force decreased rapidly beyond $400^{\circ}C$, because the formed Ti oxide inhibited the joining process between Ti and Al. Bonding forces of STS/Al were lower than those of Ti/Al, because brittle $Fe_3Al$, $Al_3Fe$ intermetallic compounds were formed at the interface of STS/Al during the cladding process. In addition, delamination of the clad material with pre-heat treated Ti was observed at the Ti/Al interface after a cupping test.

  • Step index POFs(SIPOF) are composed of core polymers and cladding polymers. Poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) and polystyrene (PS) are normally used as core materials. The refractive index of cladding materials should be less than 2-5 % that of the core material. PMMA and fluorinated polymers are used as cladding materials on PS and PMMA core, respectively$^1$. Cladding materials which have lower refractive index than core materials reflect light at less than critical angle, which is transmitted down the core. (omitted)

  • 정보통신 기술 발전과 함께 자동차 및 로봇 산업에서도 다양한 IT 기술이 적용되고 있다. 지능형 로봇 및 자율 주행 자동차의 실현을 위해서는 필수적인 센서 기술이 수반되어야 한다. 자동차 및 로봇 산업에서 종래의 센서와 더불어 레이저를 이용한 센서 기술 적용으로 보다 업그레이드 된 성능을 갖게 되었다. 특히, 반도체 레이저를 이용한 전방 물체 및 거리 인식 센서를 사용함으로써 보다 정밀한 분해능과 장거리의 거리 계측이 가능하게 되었다. RF나 초음파 센서보다 우수한 성능을 가진 반도체 레이저 거리 계측 센서를 위한 박막 성장과 성장된 Wafer의 칩 프로세스 공정을 진행하여 레이저 센서로 적용 가능함을 확인하였다. InP 기판 위해 클래드, 도파로, 활성층을 MOCVD 장비로 각각 성장하였으며, 도파로는 비대칭 구조로 성장이 되었다.

  • This paper discusses distribution of thermal stress, strain at near the joint and investigates the reliability of solder joints of electronic devices on a printed circuit board. As Electronic devices are composed of different materials, thermal stresses generate at near the interface, such as solder joints and interface between lC device and lead frame pad due to the differences of thermal expansion coefficients, As results of thermal stress, strain, micro crack often occurs thermal fatigue fracture at the interface of different materials, The initiation and propagation of micro crack depend on the environmental conditions, such as storage temperature and thermal cycling. Finally, this paper experimentally shows a way to suppress micro cracks by using Fe-Ni alloy clad lead frame, and investigates crack and thermal fatigue fracture of TSOP(Thin small outline package) type on printed circuit board.

  • Clad steel has good corrosion resistance and mechanical properties arising from the hot rolling of dissimilar metals, such as carbon steel and stainless steel. However both good corrosion resistance from the cladding plate material(stainless steel) and mechanical properties from the base plate material (carbon steel) are difficult to obtain because the different steels display opposite behaviors during the cladding process. In order to make clad steel for application in the hulls of ships, proper materials selection and heat-treatment conditions are necessary. In this study, mechanical properties of base plate materials with different chemical composition were evaluated according to heat condition of cladding plate material.
