  • Mimemodes cribratus (Reitter) is newly recognized from Korea. The present study includes a redescription, images of habitus and diagnostic characters of the species. In addition, a key to Korean species of Monotomidae is provided.

  • Mimemodes Reitter, 1876 and Mimemodes emmerichi Mader, 1937 are reported from Korea for the first time and a historical review of the taxonomic position of this genus is provided. M. emmerichi was found on the island of Guleopdo in the West Sea of Korea, bringing the number of species within the Korean Monotomidae to five. In this study, we provide a key to the genera within the Korean Monotomidae, a redescription of M. emmerichi Mader, and illustrations of its habitus and aedeagus.

출하 일령에 따른 오리육의 화학적 특성

  • 본 연구는 오리고기의 사육일령에 따른 부위별 화학적 특성을 구명하고자 실시하였다. 오리고기의 단백질 함량은 70일령의 가슴 및 다리 육이 각각 21.13, 19.61%로 45일령보다 높게 나타났다. 지방은 45일령의 가슴 육이 1.04%이었으나 70일령에서는 1.38%로 약간 증가하는 경향을 나타내었다. 무기물에서 칼슘(Ca)의 함량은 가슴 및 다리 육에서 $142.1{\sim}161.1ppm$ 으로 큰 차이를 보이지 않았고, 사육일령에 따라서 가슴 육은 사육일령이 증가할수록 약간 증가한 것으로 나타났다. 칼륨(K)의 함량은 가슴 육에서 45일령이 1469.7ppm이고 70일령 1883.1ppm으로 약간 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 아미노산에서 methionine은 가슴 및 다리 육에서 0.43, 0.46%로 다리 육에서 약간 많이 함유하고 있었으나, 사육 일령에서는 상호 차이가 없었다. Glutamic acid는 가슴 육보다 다리 육에서 약간 더 많이 함유하는 것으로 나타났다. 콜라겐 함량은 45일령의 가슴살에서 0.65, 70일령 0.77g/100g으로 사육일령이 증가함에 따라 많았다. 껍질을 제거한 날개 육에서는 45일령이 1.98이었고 70일령이 2.13g/100g으로 70일령이 0.15g/100g 이상 많았다. 콜레스테롤은 가슴육의 45일령이 10.45, 70일령이 11.28mg/100g으로 사육일령이 증가함에 따라 약간 증가하는 경향을 나타냈다.

Effects of Thorax Belt Application on the Spinal Stability in Subjects with Wide Infra-sternal Angle

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate how the application of a Thorax belt affects the stability of the spine in subjects with a wide infra-sternal angle. A total of 15 subject with wide infra-sternal angle participated in the experiment. Active Double leg lowering and active one-leg raising were performed with or without a thorax belt. Two spinal stability tests (active double lowering and active one-leg raising) performed with or without thorax belt application showed significant differences between each condition. Based on the results of present study, the application of a thorax belt is considered to be an effective therapeutic tool that can stabilize the spine to subjects with abnormally increased chest cage and spinal or trunk instability.

Changes in the Properties of Myofibrillar Proteins from Broiler Meat during Cold and Frozen Storage (육계육의 냉장 및 동결저장 중 근원섬유 단백질의 특성 변화)

  • This study was carried out to compare the changes in the extractability, biological activity, and solubility of myofibrillar proteins and actomyosins during storage period at 4$^{\circ}C$ and -20$^{\circ}C$in pectoral. and leg muscle of broiler meat. 1. The results obtained are as fellows ; The extractabilities of myofibrillar proteins in pectoral and leg muscle were increased gradually to 7-days during storage at 4$^{\circ}C$ and decreased slightly during frozen storage at -20$^{\circ}C$. The extractabilities of actomyosins in pectoral and legmuscle were not greatly changed during cold storage and decreased gradually during frozen storage. 2. The Ca$\^$2+/-ATP ase activities of myofibrillar proteins in the both muscles were not greatly changed to 7-days during cold storage, and in the case of frozen storage, those were highest on the 2nd week, thereafter decreased with storage period. The Ca$\^$2+/-ATPase activities of actomyosins in pectoral and leg muscle were decreased sightly only frist day during cold storage and decreased gently during frozen storage. 3. Myofibrillar proteins in the both muscles were solubilized completely at 0.20M KCl in fresh meat, at 0.25M (pectoral) and 0.30M KCl (leg) in the cold storage, and at 0.30M KCl in the frozen storage. Actomyosins of both muscles were solubilized completely at 0.40M KCl in fresh meat, cold and frozen storage.

  • 동맥경화가 심장의 관상동맥에 일어나면, 혈관이 좁아져 피가 잘 흐르지 못하고, 심장근육에 산소부족이 일어나 가슴이 조여 들고 무거운 듯한 통증을 느끼게 된다. 평소에 느끼지 못했던 통증이 가슴 혹은 복부 등에 나타나면 병원을 찾는 것이 좋겠고 특히 통증이 15분 이상 진행될 때는 가까운 응급실에서 곧바로 심장을 검사하는 것이 심근경색 등에 의한 치사율 감소에 큰 도움이 된다.

  • The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of scapular dynamic stabilization exercise(SDex) with electromyography(EMG) biofeedback on the upper trapezius(UT), pectoralis major(PM) and serratus anterior(SA) activities. Fifteen healthy male voluntarily participated in this study. A paired t-test was used for statistical analysis. The study showed, through EMG biofeedback, that EMG activity significantly decreased in the UT, PM and increased in the SA(P<0.05). These results suggest that SDex with EMG biofeedback is effective to selectively strengthen the SA. This article is meaningful in that it is the first article using SDex with EMG biofeedback.

Expression of Stromal Derived Factor-1 is Upregulated In Macrophages during Thymic Regeneration in Adult Rat (흰쥐 가슴샘 재생과정 동안 대식세포에서 SDF-1의 발현증가)

  • Stromal derived factor-1 (SDF-1 or CXCL12), one of the CXC chemokines, is widely expressed in many tissues, including the thymus. The thymus can regenerate to its normal mass within 14 days after acute involution induced by cyclophosphamide (CY) in adult rats. Despite the established role of SDF-1 signaling in the development of T and B lymphocytes in the thymus, it has not yet been associated with the regeneration of the adult thymus. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether SDF-1, which is expressed in thymic stromal cells, is modulated during thymic regeneration in adult rats. Here, we showed that SDF-1 mRNAs were expressed in high levels in the thymocyte and thymic stromal cells at day 7 of the CY model. SDF-1 protein was shown to be present at the cortex-medulla junction, paraseptum and within the thymic medulla. Double-immunofluorescence for SDF-1 and ED-1 showed that strong SDF-1 expression was detected in the macrophages of the medulla region displaying immunoreactivity for ED-1 during thymus regeneration. Taken together, our results demonstrated that SDF-1 expression increased in regenerating thymic macrophages, suggesting the roles of SDF-1 as a chemo-attractant for damaged cells produced in the process of thymic regeneration after acute involution induced by CY.

Effect of Chest Compression Position Depending on the Rescuer's Hip Joint Angle During Basic CPR (심폐소생술 수행자의 엉덩관절 각도가 심폐소생술 결과에 미치는 영향)

  • This study aims to investigate the improvement in basic CPR quality on the basis of the hip joint angle of the rescuer among students in the Department of Emergency Medical Technology who completed a basic CPR curriculum. In this study, we carried out a comparative analysis using SimPad SkillReporter and Resusci Anne® QCPR® to measure the quality of CPR (depth of chest compressions, full relaxation, compression speed, and more) on the basis of the rescuer's hip joint angle in accordance with the 2015 AHA Guidelines and conducted chest compressions and CPR 5 times in a 30:2 ratio. It was found that maintenance of the rescuer's hip joint angle at 90 degrees while compressing and relaxing the chest made a statistically significant difference in both the experimental and control groups. Moreover, this indicated that the closer the hip joint angle was to 90 degrees, the better was the quality of basic CPR. However, there was no significant difference in the hip joint angle, degree of CPR, depth of chest compressions, chest compression speed, chest compression and relaxation percentages (%), accuracy of chest compressions, hands-off time during CPR, and percentage of chest compression time (p > 0.05). Maintaining the hip joint angle at 90 degrees for basic CPR was not significantly different from not maintaining this angle. Nonetheless, good results have been obtained at moderate depth and 100% recoil. Therefore, good outcome and high-quality CPR are expected.

Wnt7b is Upregulated in Macrophages during Thymic Regeneration and Negatively Regulated by RANKL (흰쥐 가슴샘 재생과정 동안 대식세포에서 Wnt 7b의 발현증가 및 RANKL에 의한 발현조절)

  • Thymus can regenerate to its normal mass within 14 days after acute involution induced by cyclophosphamide (CY) in adult rat. Despite the established role of Wnt pathways in the process of thymus development, they have not yet been associated with the regeneration of adult thymus. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether Wnt7b, which is expressed in developing thymic epithelial cells rather than in thymocytes, is modulated during thymic regeneration in adult rat. Here, we show that Wnt7b expression was up-regulated in the regenerating thymus. Cells immunolabeled for the Wnt7b were identified as macrophages. Furthermore, Wnt7b gene expression was decreased by the treatment of receptor activator of NF-kappaB ligand (RANKL). Taken together, our results demonstrate that Wnt7b gene expression was increased in macrophages during thymic regeneration and negatively regulated by RANKL.
