  • This study examined the long-term inelastic characteristics, including unrestrained shrinkage and creep, of low-heat cement concrete under different ambient curing temperatures. To achieve the designed compressive strength of 42MPa, water-to-binder ratios were selected to be 27.5, 30, and 32.5% for curing temperatures of 5, 20, and $40^{\circ}C$, respectively. Test results showed that the shrinkage strains of concrete mixtures tended to decrease with the decrease in curing temperature because of the delayed evaporation of internal capillary and gel waters. Meanwhile, creep strains were higher in concrete specimens under lower curing temperature due to the occurrence of the transition temperature creep. The design models of KCI provision gave better accuracy in comparison with test results than those of ACI 209, although a correction factor for low-heat cement needs to be established in the KCI provision.

  • RC super tall buildings are planned and constructed recently in domestic area. Concrete is characterized by time dependant material such as creep and shrinkage. For this properties of concrete, differential shortening is one of the main issues on super tall buildings construction. This study includes material research, which is performing as a pre design stage to solve differential shortening on Lotte Super Tower Jamsil core structure(50, 60, & 70 MPa). The major part of this study is composed with comparison and analysis between experimental data and predicted data on total shrinkage and total compliance which were used on design stage. Four models, ACI209R Model, Ba${\check{z}}$ant-Baweja B3 Model, CEB MC99 Model, & GL2000 Model, were employed to predict them. It also tries to seek a proper model for high strength and high performance concrete in the case of no concrete test.

  • We conducted uniaxial consolidation tests in mudstone samples with different clay content, in order to investigate time-dependent deformation and its characteristics. A significant amount of time-dependent strain was observed at a constant stress level immediately after a jump of stress was applied. For a given mudstone, the amount of time-dependent deformation was nearly proportional to the increment of stress, suggesting a linear viscous rheology. The amount of time-dependent strain increases with clay content, implying that clay plays an important role in creep of the unconsolidated mudstone. A power-law model was suitably applied to our results, suggesting that a short-term prediction of time-dependent deformation of the mudstone is tentatively feasible.

  • The reasonable prediction of time-dependent deformation of prestressed concrete(PSC) box girder bridges is very important for accurate construction as well as good serviceability. The long-term behavior is mostly influenced by the probabilistic characteristic of creep and shrinkage. This paper presents a method of statistical analysis and sensitivity analysis of creep and shrinkage effects in PSC box been taken into account - model uncertainty, parameter variation and environmental condition. The statistical and sensitivity analyses are performed by using the numerical simulation of Latin Hypercube sampling. For each sample, the time-dependent structural analysis is performed to produce response data, which are then statistically analyzed. The probabilistic prediction of the confidence limits on long-term effects of creep and shrinkage is then expressed. Three measure are examined to quantify the sensitivity of the outputs of each of the input variables. These are rank correlation coefficient(RCC), partical rank correlation coefficient(PRCC) and standardiozed rank regression coefficient(SRRC) computed on the ranks of the observations. Three creep and shrinkage models - i. e., ACI model. CEB-FIP model and the model in Korea Highway Bridge Specification - are studied. The creep model uncertainy factor and the relative humidity appear to be the most dominant factors with regard to the model output uncertainty.

  • This paper is performed to examine the effect of creep during the primary consolidation and the applicability of the Yin's EVP (Elasto-Visco-Plastic) model. In ordinary consolidation theories using the elastic model, the primary consolidation process can be expressed but the secondary consolidation process cannot. It is due to the viscosity, which can express the secondary consolidation, and is sometimes related to the scale effect (difference of the thickness of clay layer between laboratory sample and field condition) such as hypotheses Type A and Type B shown by Ladd et al. (1977). Usually, the existence of the creep during the primary consolidation has been conformed and the Type B is well acceped. On the other hand, from the large-scaled consolidation tests the intermediate characteristic between Type A and Type B was proposed as Type C by Aboshi (1973). In this study, to clarify the effect of creep on the settlement-time relation during the primary consolidation in detail, Type B consolidation tests were performed using the separate-type consolidation test apparatus for a peat and clay. Then the test results were analyzed by using Yin's EVP Model (Yin and Graham, 1994). In conclusion, followings were obtained. At the end of primary consolidation, the compression for the subspecimens should not be the same because of the difference of the excess pore water pressure dissipation rate. And the average settlement measured by the separate-type consolidometer coincides with the analyzed one using the Yin's EVP model. As for the dissipation of the excess pore water pressure, however, the measured excess pore water pressure dissipates faster compared with the Yin's model.

  • A deformation model was developed to calculate the deformation of the uranium-silicide dispersion fuel (U$_3$Si-Al) elements for research reactors. The model was based on the elasto-plasticity theory and power-law creep theory. Also, isotopic swelling was assumed for the fuel meat and isotropic thermal expansion for the fuel meat and dadding. The new model calculated successfully the deformation of the fuels of HANARO and NRU (in Canada). As the most important result, it was shown that the primary deformation mechanism in the fuel meat was swelling and that in the cladding was creep. For all cases simulated, the maximum hoop stress at cladding outer surface was lass than 5MPa, probably well below the yield stress of the dadding, and finally, the volume change was predicted to be less than 10% in the whole burnup range.

  • The purpose of this study is to determine the artificial intelligence-based degradation index from the image of the cross-section of the microstructure taken with a scanning electron microscope of the specimen obtained by the creep test of DA-5161 SX, a nickel-based superalloy used as a material for high-temperature parts. It proposes a new method of quantification and proposes a model that predicts degradation based on Bayesian inference without destroying components of high-temperature parts of operating equipment and a creep life prediction model that predicts Larson-Miller Parameter (LMP). It is proposed that the new degradation indexing method that infers a consistent representative value from a small amount of images based on the geometrical characteristics of the gamma prime phase, a nickel-base superalloy microstructure, and the prediction method of degradation index and LMP with information on the environmental conditions of the material without destroying high-temperature parts.

  • Long-term shear behavior of the rock discontinuities should be analyzed and its stability should be evaluated to ensure the long-term stability of a high-level radioactive waste disposal repository. The long-term shear behavior of the discontinuities can be modeled with creep and RSF models. The shear creep test, velocity step test, and slide-hold-slide test can be performed to determine their model parameters or analyze the shear behavior by experiments under various conditions. Testing apparatuses for direct shear, triaxial compression, and biaxial shear were mainly used and improved to reproduce the thermo-hydro-mechanical conditions of local bedrock, and it was confirmed that the shear behavior could vary. In order to design a high-level radioactive waste disposal site in Korea, the long-term behavior of rock discontinuities should be investigated in consideration of rock types, thermo-hydro-mechanical conditions, metamorphism, and restoration of shear resistance.
