Lossless Image Compression using Quadtree algorithm and F-transform (Quadtree 알고리즘과 F-변환을 이용한 무손실 영상압축)

  • As the computer communication becomes generalized thanks to the advancement in information technology the technology to process a large amount of images is much rare required. This paper proposed lossless image compression method using quadtree algorithm and F-transform, which efficiency transmission and storage. The computer simulation shows that Compression ratio to make use of proposed method turned out to be improved more significantly compared with the established L-JPEG, LOCO-I, CALIC.

  • MPEG과 ITU-T에서 최근 표준화가 진행되고 있는 HEVC는 H.264/AVC에 비해, CU(coding unit), PU(prediction unit), TU(transform unit)의 다양한 형태 분할 단위를 갖는 것을 큰 특징으로 한다. 이 중, CU와 TU는 쿼드트리 형태의 재귀적 분할 구조를 가지도록 구성되는데, 압축 효율은 향상시키지만 높은 부호화 복잡도를 갖는 단점이 있다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 재귀적 분할 구조를 변환하여 가장 작은 CU의 정보를 병합하여 큰 CU의 정보를 빠르게 결정하는 방법을 제안한다. 제안한 방법을 HEVC의 CU 부호화에 적용한 결과, 부호화 복잡도를 32-45% 가량 감소시키면서 압축 효율 하락은 0.6-0.9%로 억제할 수 있었다. 또한, HM6.1에 구현되어 있는 고속 탐색 알고리즘과 비교 할 경우, 압축 효율 하락을 0.2-0.3%로 억제하면서 부호화 복잡도를 8-12% 감소시킬 수 있었다.

  • Generally, cartoon images are simple and involve a small number of colors and often include large homogeneous regions with same color or gradient. In this paper, effective compression method for complementary quadtree was suggested for cartoon images, by using those properties. And with progressive transmission, this method involves a progressive increase in the image resolution at the receiver from a lower to a higher resolution during the transmission of data. This is an effective way of using a limited transmission channel, because, after estimating the value of the data in the early transmission period, a decision can be made whether or not to proceed with the transmission of the remaining part. Since the proposed method is lossless and involves progressive transmission, it was compared with progressive PNG and progressive GIF, which had same functions.

  • Studies on image information processing have been performed since long time ago because in daily life most of information are acquired by the since of sight. Since there should be a lot of data to describe image as a digital form, data compression is required in order to store or transmit digital image. Lately among most of image compression methods adopted on image compression standards, transform coding methods have been primarily used which transforms the correlations between pixels of image on frequency domain before image compression. It is blown that the standard methods using especially DCT features blocking effect which is the major cause of degrading the quality of image at high compression rate. Fractal encoding using quadtree partition is applied after reducing original image, and we are to find a optimal encoding for the number of scaling bit and offset bit.

Efficient Coding of Motion Vector and Mode Information for H.264/AVC (H.264/AVC에서 효율적인 움직임 벡터와 모드 정보의 압축)

  • The portion of header in H.264 gets higher than those of previous standards instead of its better compression efficiency. Therefore, this paper proposes a new technique to compress the header of H.264. Unifying a sentence elementary in H.264, H.264 does not consider the distribution of element which be encoded and uses existing Exp-Golomb method, but it is uneffective for variable length coding. Most of the header are block type(s) and motion vector difference(s), and there are redundancies in the header of H.264. The redundancies in the header of H.264 which are analyzed in this paper are three. There are frequently appearing symbols and non-frequently appearing symbols in block types. And when mode 8 is selected in macroblock, all of four sub-macroblock types are transferred. At last, same values come in motion vector difference, especially '0.' This paper proposes the algorithm using type code and quadtree, and with them presents the redundant information of header in H.264. The type code indicates shape of the macroblock and the quadtree does the tree structured motion compensation. Experimental results show that proposed algorithm achieves lower total number of encoded bits over JM12.4 up to 32.51% bit reduction.

  • 본 논문은 FME (Fractional Motion Estimation)의 선택적 수행을 통한 HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding)의 부호화 고속화 방법을 제안한다. HEVC 는 H.264/AVC 에 비해 약 2 배의 압축 효율을 보이지만, 쿼드트리 구조의 재귀적 호출은 복잡도를 크게 증가시켰다. 이러한 이유로 인하여 HEVC 부호화기의 고속 모드 결정 및 고속화 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 HEVC 부호화기 중 가장 높은 복잡도를 갖는 화면 간 예측 모드의 부화소 움직임 추정 (FME: Fractional Motion Estimation)의 선택적 수행을 통하여 부호화기를 고속화하는 방법을 제안한다. 제안하는 방법을 HEVC 레퍼런스 소프트웨어인 HM-12.0 에 적용하여 평균 2.0%의 BD-BR 가 증가하였으나, 평균 36.0%의 부호화 시간 감소 효과를 얻을 수 있었다.

  • The Wavelet Transform providing both of the frequency and time information of an image is proved to be very much effective for the compression of images, and recently lot of studies on coding algorithms for images decomposed by the wavelet transform together with the multiresolution theory are going on. This paper proposes a Quadtree decompositon method of image compression applied to the images decomposed by wavelet transform by using the correlations between pixels .Since the coefficients obtained by the wavelet transform have high correlations between scales, the Quadtree method can reduce the data quantity effectively The experimental image with 256${\times}$256 size was used to compare the Performances of the existing and the proposed compression methods.

  • 최근 3D의 발전으로 다음 세대의 3D 기술로 디지털 홀로그램을 지목하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 프레넬릿 변환을 이용하여 디지털 홀로그램 압축을 위한 효과적인 양자화 방법에 대하여 제안하였다. 효과적인 양자화 방법을 위해 각각의 부대역의 특성에 고려하여 우선순위를 정하고 양자화를 적용하였다. 또한 PSNR을 높이고자 예외 인덱스를 적용하였다. 그 결과 2dB 정도 높아지는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 실험결과에서는 최소 약 6:1부터 최대 약 181:1까지 압축을 수행하였고, PSNR을 이용하여 압축된 영상에 대하여 수치적인 결과를 분석하였다.

Motion vector compression in H.264 with leaf mode (단말 모드 방식을 도입한 H.264의 움직임 벡터 압축)

  • H.264 processes more detailed and more motion information for the compression efficiency. However, motion vector of H.264 takes more portion than previous standards such as MPEG-1/2/4 do, so that it is needed to consider motion vectors. This paper proposes the new algorithm with leaf mode in order to compress the motion vector efficiently. The proposed algorithm concentrates modes' distribution with leaf mode and carries out the compression of motion vector with less modes. The proposed algorithm adopted in current $4{\times}4$ motion vector matrix also can be extend to $8{\times}8$. The experiments shows that the proposed algorithm reduces up to 12.68% at header and 9.7% at resultant bitstream.

  • 본 논문에서는 차세대 비디오 압축 표준인 MPEG-5 Essential Video Coding (EVC) 에서 사용된 블록 분할 방식에 대해서 소개한다. EVC 에서 사용된 블록 분할 방식은 기존 비디오 압축 표준인 HEVC/H.265 에서 사용된 쿼드 트리(Quad-tree)가 아닌 이진 분할(Binary split)과 삼진 분할(Ternary split)을 사용한 Binary ternary tree(BTT) 기술을 사용하고 있다. 또한 기존 비디오 압축 기술과 달리 분할된 블록의 코딩 순서를 정해서 사용 할 수 있는 Split unit coding order (SUCO) 기술이 사용되고 있다.
