A method for lmprovlng strengths of recycled concrete was studied to make use of it in nolmal
concrete structures. Recycled conc~ete was prepared by replacing 50% by weight of coarse aggregate with recycled aggregate. Mix design rnet hod for crushed aggregates was used and specirriens were cured by normal moisture curing method. A plastlciser and a fly ash were added to the mix to improve performance of recycled concrete. Compressive strength, flexural strength,
tensile strength, elastic modulus, stress-strain relationship, long-term compressive strength and fracture toughness were evaluated and compared with those of rlormal concretes. Recycled concrete showed, in general, lower compressive strength than normal concreks. It also showed lower elastic modulus, lower tensile and flexural strengths, and higher strain under the same stress
level. However, by reducing w /c ratio down to 35% using the plasticiser. average compressive strength(${\alpha}_{28}$) of recycled concrete was reached. with slump of $16{\pm}2$cm, to $225kg/cm^2$ or hlgher,
which is an acceptable strmgth level for normal structural concrete. I-Iowevei., elastic modulus
and strain should be improved further for practical use of recycled concrctc: in normal structure.
Fly ash addition in both concretes showed an effect of irnprovilig long term compressive strength
and reducing strengths.

This paper reviewed various methods of evaluating the toughness of fiber reinforced concrete materials by means of toughness indices and discussed the use of various multiples of first-crack deflection or first-crack secant compliance to define toughness indices. And a new method what is called effective toughness used to evaluate the toughness of steel fiber reinforced concrete. The proposed method determinded from the area below the load-deflection curve until deflection at the loading point becoms 1/150 of the span devided by the ligament area.
This study evaluated mechanical characteristics and performance of recycled concrete
as a pavement material for use in low volume road. The recycled concrete was prepared
by replacing a half of coarse aggregate with recycled coarse aggregate. Natural sand
from a source was used as fine aggregate together with admixtures, such as plasticizer
and fly ash (0.8% and 5% by wt. of total binder, respectively). From experimental
evaluation. it was found that flexural strength. compressive strength, elastic modulus
and fracture toughness of recycled concrete at 28 days were approximately $45kg/cm^2$, $250kg/cm^2$, $230,000kg/cm^2$ 및 $0.863 MPa{\cdot}m^{1/2}$. respectively. Long term strength and
fracture toughness were improved significantly at the age of 6 months. In conclusion.
mechanical properties of the recycled concrete were acceptable for use as concrete
pavement materials in low-volume roads in rural and urban areas.

The purpose of this experimental research is to evaluate the compressive and tensile behaviors of high performance hybrid fiber reinforced concrete(HPHFRC) using amorphous steel fiber(ASF) and polyamide fiber(PAF). For this purpose, the HPHFRCs using ASF and PAF were made according to their total volume fraction of 1.0% for target compressive strength of 40MPa and 60MPa, respectively. And then the compressive and tensile behaviors such as the compressive strength, compressive toughness, direct tensile strength, and stress-strain characteristics under compressive and tensile tests were estimated. It was observed from the test results that the compressive strength of HPHFRC was slightly decreased than that of plain concrete, but the compressive toughness, compressive toughness ratio, and direct tensile strength of HPHFRC increased significantly. Also, it was revealed that the plain concrete showed brittle fracture after the maximum stress from the stress-strain curves, but HPHFRC showed strain softening.
This paper investigates the effects of fiber volume fraction and panel thickness on face damage characteristics of steel fiber-reinforced concrete (SFRC) under high-velocity globular projectile impact. The target specimens were prepared with $200{\times}200mm$ prismatic panels with thickness of 30 or 50 mm. All panels were subjected to the impact of a steel projectile with a diameter of 20 mm and velocity of 350 m/s. Specifically, this paper explores the correlation between mechanical properties and face damage characteristics of SFRC panels with different fiber volume fraction and panel thickness. The mechanical properties of SFRC considered in this study included compressive strength, modulus of rupture, and toughness. Test results indicated that the addition of steel fiber significantly improve the impact resistance of conventional concrete panel. The front face damage of SFRC panels decreased with increasing the compressive toughness and rear face damage decreased as the modulus of rupture and flexural toughness increased. To evaluate the damage response of SFRC panels under high-velocity impact, finite element analysis conducted using ABAQUS/Explicit commercial program. The predicted face damage of SFRC panels based on simulation shows well agreement with the experimental result in similar failure mode.

Based on Model Code 2010, flexural and residual strength, flexural toughness of SFRC with design strength of 60 MPa are evaluated. For comparisons, SFRC with design strength 40 MPa was tested. Distribution of steel fibers in crack surface of specimens was evaluated by visual inspection. The used steel fibers were hooked fibers with aspect ratio of 64, 67 and 80. In all specimens, mix ratio of steel fibers was 0.5% Vol. In results, only SFRC with the highest aspect ratio satisfied requirements specified in Model Code 2010. The results demonstrated that the use of high aspect ratio will provide enough flexural toughness for high strength concrete. Also, it is found that low slump of high strength concrete can help to enhance isotropic fiber distribution.

The recycled concrete, average compressive strength of which was 2l0kg/cm$^2$ or higher with slump range of 14~18cm, was prepared by replacing 25% and 50% by weight of coarse aggregate with recycled aggregate from waste concrete. Mix design method for crushed aggregates was used and all specimens were cured by normal moisture curing method. A plasticiser and a fly ash were added to the mix to improve performance of recycled concrete. Flexural strength, stress- strain relationship and fracture toughness were evaluated by comparing with those of normal concretes. Recycled concrete showed, in general, lower flexural strength and fracture toughness, and higher strain under the same stress level. Fly ash in the concrete had an effect of reducing the strength and fracture toughness on both normal and recycled concretes. Since fly ash is known to improve many properties of concrete, while reducing strength properties, decision for using fly ash should be made carefully depending on the intended usage of the recycled concrete.
The recycled aggregate produced from the waste concrete have the disadvantages in the quality for the natural aggregate. Therefore, in order to reuse the recycled aggregate widely it is a previous subject to improve the quality of recycled aggregate. We deduced the more effective surface treatment method using the colloidal silica solution for quality improvement of recycled aggregate. This study aimed to verify the influences of the deduced surface treatment method and the reinforcement of steel fiber to the properties of concrete. For this object, we inquired into the results of the strengths and the flexural failure tests for the five kinds of concrete specimens.
In this work, in order to inrprove the flexural strength of hardened portlarid cerncrit paste, mix ing water was reduced to water ccrnent ratio of 0.1 aid water soluble polymer such as hydroxy propyl methyl cellulose was adclelri to the paste to obtain a better dispersion. The paste was kneaded by the twin roll mill for cornpact and homogeneous mixing. The high strength mechanism of the hardened cement paste may be due to the removal of macropores larger than 100${\mu}m$, the reduction of capillary pores acting as the passage of crack propagation, the increase of Young's moculus with iticrease of unhytlratcci cenxxnt ard the incicasc of fracture toughnevs with the crack toughening mechanism (grain bridging, polymer fibril bridging and fritional inter-locking).

This paper presents a comparative evaluation of five different types of steel fibers used as reinforcing material in concrete beams. Two types of plain and RC beams were prepared to compare the relative flexural behavior. The fibers used were dog bone (paddled), both ends hooked. コ-type straight. crimped and wavy type with aspect ratio of 43 to 75. Fiber volume fraction of 1 to 2% were used while shear span to depth ratio (aid) and steel ratio p were fixed. Fiber reinforcement effect index Ef and effective toughness index Te were adopted to evaluate fiber reinforcing effects. The effect of fiber reinforcement on flexural strength is higher in plain beams than in RC beams. Hooked and dog bone type fibers were found to be more effective than the other type ones in enhancing the flexural strength and post-peak energy absorption capacity of concrete beams.
