This study proposes the physical properties of the hardened lightweight cement using the polyethylene tube and to make the fundamental data regarding a new lightweight concrete development. The aerated concrete is displaying various effects such as lightweight, insulation characteristic and it is coming to be widely applied the slab layer of apartment as an insulating material but currently the aerated concrete has many problems. Therefore, demonstrating similar property of former aerated concrete and improving the defects, developing new hardened cement is needed. In this study, we predict adopting possibility of hollow core polyethylene tube, as a material to make cement hardening containing a lot of void. So we changed the mixing ratio, a diameter and length of the polyethylene tube and improved the compressive strength and unit capacity weight of the lightweight cement hardening body. From the test results, we judge that the aerated concrete is a developmental possibility.

Carbon nanotube(CNT) is one of the promising construction materials to produce concrete with high strength and durability by adding in the concrete mixtures from various researches. Also, its superior heat conductivity can be one of the options to develop self-heating concrete. In this research, the fundamental study was conducted to investigate mechanical properties and microstructures of cement pastes and mortars by strength tests and porosity measurement with several CNT additions, which were 0 wt%, 0.115 wt%, 0.23 wt% and 0.46 wt% of CNT-cement ratio. Compressive and flexural strength test were conducted at 3, 7 and 28 days, and pore characteristics were investigated by mercury intrusion porosimetry. SEM-EDS and Thermogravimetric analysis(TGA) were conducted to prove the hydration product types and CNT dispersion in the cement matrix. As a result, even though high amount of CNT additions were caused worse performance, mixtures with 0.115 wt% of CNTs developed the similar performance with plain mixture.
Column tests were performed for a new type of column, the internally confined hollow concrete filled tube column (ICH CFT column), to evaluate its seismic performance. The seismic performances for two types of ICH CFT columns and a general solid RC column were evaluated and compared by quasi-static tests. The displacements and the lateral loads of column specimens were measured during tests. Ductilities, absorbed energy, equivalent damping ratios, damage indices were calculated from recorded data. From the test results, the ICH CFT column shows superior seismic performances with double moment capacity and larger energy absorbing capacity over that of a solid RC column.

Enhancing mechanical strength of concrete has been fascinated using carbon-based nanomaterials such as CNT and graphene. The key to improving strength is a dispersion of nanomaterials. A novel method is required to investigate the dispersion inner concrete nondestructively. In this study, the optical optical properties such as refractive index and absorption coefficient are measured in nano-cement mortar specimens containing MWCNT and GO using THz electro-magnetic waves. From the results, the properties of nano-cement mortar are confirmed to be 1.0% to 2.5% higher in refractive index, and -14% to 28% higher in absorption coefficient than those of cement mortar at the average values. Using these characteristics, visualizing the dispersion of nano-concrete structures seems possible in future.

The purpose of this study is to experimentally investigate the structural performance of concrete exterior beam-column joints confined by carbon sheet tube. Four specimens were produced with different numbers of carbon sheet and the other specimen was produced with reinforced concrete. A hydraulic dynamic actuator with 30tonf capacity was used to cyclic lateral loading test. The experimental results represent that the numbers of carbon sheet have an influence the load and displacement capacity. However, the bond length of carbon sheets for connecting beam and column has to be considered to improve the capacity of joint.

In this study, the fluidity, mechanical properties and microstructure of cement pastes with carbon nanotube (CNT) were experimentally investigated. The 6 types of cement paste mixes with different PCE:CNT and w/b had been manufactured, and several tests including flow, compressive strength, absorption and water porosity were performed on cement pastes with or without CNT.Additionally, microstructural observations such as x-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were carried out to examine hydrates formed in cement paste with CNT. As a result, it was found that the performance of cement pastes with CNT was better compared to that of control cement paste (OPC) due to both of hydration acceleration effect and filling effect. Furthermore, the SEM images clearly showed that CNT can bridge cracks formed in cement matrix. Conclusively, it is believed that the CNT, if mixed appropriately, could be an option as nono-materials to improve performance of concrete structures.
To investigate the enhancement in strength and deformation capacities of concrete confined by FRP composites, tests under axial loads were carried out on three groups of thirty six short columns in circular section with diverse GFRP confining reinforcement. The major test variables considered include fiber content or orientation, wrap or tube type by varying the end loading condition, and continuous or discontinuous confinement depending on the presence of vortical spices between its two halves. The circumferential FRP strains at failure for different types of confinements were also investigated with emphasis. Various analytical models capable of predicting the ultimate strength and strain of the confined concrete were examined by comparing to observed results. Tests results showed that FRP wraps or tubes provide the substantial increase in strength and deformation, while partial wraps comprising the vertical discontinuities fail in an explosive manner with less increase in strength, particularly in deformation. A bilinear stress-strain response was observed throughout all tests with some variations of strain hardening. The failure hoop strains measured on the FRP surface were less than those obtained from the tensile coupons in all tests with a high degree of variation. In overall, existing predictive equations overestimated ultimate strengths and strains observed in present tests, with a much larger scatter related to the latter. For more accuracy, two simple design- oriented equations correlated with present tests are proposed. The strength equation was derived using the Mohr-Coulomb failure criterion, whereas the strain equation was based on entirely fitting of test data including the unconfined concrete strength as one of governing factors.

An AU-composite beam based on U-shaped steel beams and steel plate anchors of type A was developed. The composite beam reduced the height of the building floor and construction cost. In addition, it decreased the length of construction work, and improved the flexural strength and stiffness as a form of tubes. In this study, AU-composite beams were tested directly and their performance was evaluated through bending experiments. The strength of the specimens was increased initially by linear loads and reached a maximum strength due to destruction of the concrete slab. All of the experiments showed more than 85% of the maximum stress and performed gentle movement. In addition, there was good composite behavior with the steel plate anchor that had excellent composite effects and reached full strength until the maximum strength was reached. When the thickness of the steel plate was increase, the flexural stiffness and strength of the specimen were improved. Therefore, the flexural strength of AU-composite beams can be estimated using the flexural strength formula according to the KBC 2016.

Recently, various researches on the utilization of carbon nanotube(CNT) with superior electrical conductivity and large surface areas into concrete have been actively conducted. Thus, mechanical and thermal properties of cement-flyash composites were evaluated concerning the CNT replacements. Based on the low binder-to-water ratio, the cement composites were produced with 0.2 % and 0.5 % of CNT solids. The compressive strengths with various ages, isothermal calorimetry measurement, SEM analysis, thermal conductivity of cement composites and thermal gravimetry analysis were implemented. As the amount of CNT addition was increased, the thermal conductivity of cement composites were also increased. Also, there was no significant mechanical property differences between mixtures with and without CNTs.
