Structural Strength of Beam-to-CFT Connections with Vertical Diaphragm (수직다이아프램을 사용한 충전형 각형강관기둥 접합부의 내력평가)

  • This paper investigates structural characteristics of internal vertical diaphragm and its influence on the connection strength between concrete filled tubular(CFT) column and beam. CFT columns are hybrids that combine two materials in one member. They have the benefits of steel for high tensile strength and ductility and of concrete for high compressive strength and stiffness. Analytical method of the flexural strength of vertical diaphragm to account moment transfer between panel zones is presented using yield line theory. Connection design is verified by a set of monotonic tests and numerical analysis with different diaphragm thicknesses. Plastic zones of CFT flange was found and matched closely to FEM results. Both analytical and experimental results showed good agreement that vertical diaphragm effectively alleviates the stress and transfer the force.

An Experimental Study on the Fire Behavior of CFT Column under the Constant Axial Loading Condition in Fire (일정축력을 받는 콘크리트 충전 각형기둥의 경계조건 변화에 따른 화재거동특성에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • A concrete filled square steel tube (CFT) is composed of the external steel material, which its strength is reduced in fire due to sudden temperature increase, and the internal concrete with high thermal capacity that can ensure the fire resistance performance of the structure. Therefore, research about the influence factors of the structural performance of CFT column is required in order to apply CFT column to a fire resisting structure, and additional research about influence for each condition is also necessary. Among the influence factors, the boundary condition between column and beam is important structurally, and it is one of the major factors that determine overall fire resisting performance. This study performed a fire experiment under loading in order to analyse the influences of CFT column to the boundary condition. As the results of the experiment, fire resistance time of 106 minutes was ensured for the clamped-end condition but 89 minutes for the hinge-end condition in case of the 360 cross section. And, fire resistance time of 113 minutes was ensured for the clamped-end condition but 78 minutes for the hinge-end condition in case of the 280 cross section.

Behavior of Concrete-Filled Tube Column to H-Beam Connections with External Stiffeners and Reinforcing Bar (외부스티프너와 철근으로 보강한 CFT 기둥-H형강 보 접합부의 거동)

  • This paper is a study on the behavior of Concrete-Filled Square Tubular(CFST) column to H-beam connections reinforced with external stiffeners and reinforcing bar. The cyclic loading tests of 5 test specimens were carried out. The main Parameters are as follows; 1)the length of the stiffener: 200mm, 250mm, 2)the diameter of reinforcing bar: HD16, 19. The results of the researches demonstrate that the increase of the stiffener length was more effective than the increase of the area of reinforcing bar in the point of both strength and stiffness. By reinforcing external stiffeners, stable hysteretic behavior was shown and plastic hinge was formed on the beam flange. Cold-formed tube sections should be used carefully to avoid the welding fracture at the round corners of section, and the proposed welding methods are suitable for this connections.

  • When the fire occur, concrete filled steel tube(CFT) columns expected to form a much distinction in a fire resistance performance according to a kind of fire protection because the steel surface is directly exposed to high temperature. In this study, an experiment by three factors which were kind of fire protection, thickness of protection and time was performed to get the characteristics of temperature distribution types of CFT column with fire protection. As the result of this study, on a basis of heating temperature, spray protection was the most superior in a fire resistance performance, fireproof paint was next, and without fire protection was most inferior. In a heating time-location relationship, the temperature increased slowly on the surface of the concrete, but the temperature increased sharply on the surface of the steel.

  • Concrete filled tubular columns are widely used because the mutual reaction between the concrete and the tube improves strength and ductility of the columns. In an attempt to secure efficient use of members, built-up square columns featuring large width-thickness ratio and the use of thin steel plates are suggested in this study. In order to evaluate the structural characteristics and seismic performance of the column-to-beam connections of the new shape columns, cyclic load test of T-shaped column-to-beam connections was conducted with variables of diaphragms and concrete-filling. Moment-rotational angle relationship, dissipated energy and failure behavior were compared to evaluate stress transfer mechanism of the new shape built-up square column-to-beam connections associated with the variables.

  • This study is concerning the structural behavior of reinforced concrete filled tubular column to steel H-beam connections with outer diaphram by simplified connection type. The important parameters of this study are the cross-section shape of tubular column and the spacing of hoop (60mm, 30mm, 20mm) and the concrete filled or not. The experimental results are summarized for the strength and displacement of each specimen.

  • CFT column has a lot of structural advantages due to the composite behavior between in-filled concrete and steel tube. This paper deals with the development of an effective numerical model which can consider the bond-slip behavior between both components of concrete matrix and steel tube without taking double nodes. Since the applied axial load to in-filled concrete matrix is delivered to steel tube by the confinement effect and the friction, the governing equation related to the slip behavior can be constructed on the basis of the force equilibrium and the compatability conditions. In advance, the force and displacement relations between adjacent two nodes make it possible to express the slip behavior with the concrete nodes only. This model results in significant savings in the numerical modeling of CFT columns to take into account the effect of bond-slip. Finally, correlation studies between numerical results and experimental data are conducted to verifying the efficiency of the introduced numerical model.
