In this study, effects of micropores on the freezing-thawing resistance of high volume slag concrete are reviewed. Concrete was made with slag which contains the ground granulated blast furnace slag(GGBS) and the pig iron preliminary treatment slag(PS) by replacing 0, 40, 70 %, then compressive strength, freezing-thawing resistance, micropores were reviewed. Also, specified design strength, target air contents were set. Deterioration was induced by using 14-day-age specimen which has low compressive strength for evaluating deterioration by freeze-thawing action. As results of the experiment, despite of specified design strength which has been set similarly and ensured target air contents, the pore size distribution of the concrete showed different results. Micropores in GGBS70 specimen have small amount of water which is likely to freeze because there is small amount of pore volume of 10~100 nm size at 0 cycle which has not been influenced by freezing-thawing. For these reasons, it was confirmed that the freezing-thawing resistance performance of GGBS70 is significantly superior than other specimens because relatively small expansion pressure is generated compared to the other specimens.
This research develops tools and strategies for optimizing RC column sections applied in tall buildings. Optimization parameters are concrete strength and section shape, the objective function for which is subject to several predefined constraints drawn from the original structural design. For this purpose, we developed new components for StrAuto, a parametric modeling and optimization tool for building structure. The components receive from external analysis solvers member strengths calculated from the original design model, and output optimized column sections satisfying the minimum cost. Using these components, optimized sections are firstly obtained for each predefined concrete strength applied to the whole floors in the project building. The obtained results for each concrete strength are comparatively examined to determine the fittest sections which will also result in the fittest vertical zoning for concrete strength. The main optimization scenario for this is to search for the vertical levels where the identical optimized sections coincide for the two different concrete strengths in concern, and select those levels for the boundaries where a concrete strength will be changed to another. The optimization process provided in this research is a product of an intensive development designed for a specific member in a specific project. Thus, the algorithm suggested takes on a microscopic and mathematical approach. However, the technique has a lot of potential that it can further be extensively developed and applied for future projects.

The design comparison and nonlinear analysis of totally prefabricated bridge substructure systems are performed. The prefabricated bridge substructures are designed by the methods of present design and load and resistance factor design (LRFD). For the design, the current Korea Highway Bridge Code (KHBD), with DB-24 and DL-24 live loads, is used. This study evaluates the present design method of KHBD (2005) and AASHTO-LRFD (2007) for totally prefabricated bridge substructure systems. A computer program, named RCAHEST (Reinforced Concrete Analysis in Higher Evaluation System Technology), for the analysis of reinforced concrete structures, was used.
Many researches and policies have been carried out for saving energy in buildings. However, there are a few studies of thermal characteristics of wood-based materials that have been widely used as structural materials and finishing materials in buildings. In this study, thermal bridging areas were found to investigate thermal performance of residential building using non wood-based materials and wood-based materials. And heat transfer analysis of 16 case studies according to composition of structural materials and finishing materials was conducted. Also in this experiment, Physibel Trisco was used as the heat transfer analysis simulation tool, which conforms to the calculation method of ISO 10211. Analytical modeling was also carried out according to the ISO 10211, and the boundary temperature conditions were set at room temperature $20^{\circ}C$ and outdoor temperature $-11.3^{\circ}C$ (Seoul standard) according to the energy saving design standard in South Korea. Applied structures are classified according to the cases of concrete structure with non wood-based finishing materials, concrete structure with wood-based finishing materials and wood structure. Analyzed building elements were divided into a wall, a roof, an interlayer floor and a bottom floor. As a result, it can be confirmed that the thermal bridge of the concrete structure and wood structure were caused by the geometrical and material causes. In addition, the structural thermal bridge was caused in the discontinuity of the insulation in the concrete structure. Also it was confirmed that the linear heat transfer coefficient of the wall decreases when the wood-based materials are applied to the concrete structure.
Still no accurate theory exists for predicting ultimate shear strength of deep reinforced concrete beams because of the structural and material non-linearity after cracking. Currently, the load capacity assesment is performed for the upper structure of the bridges and containing non-reliability in the applications and results. The purpose in this study is to evaluate analytically the complex shear behaviors and normal strength for the reinforced concrete deep beams and to offer the accuracy load capacity assesment method based on the reliability theories. This paper presents a method for the load capacity assesment of reinforcement concrete deep beams using nonlinear finite element analysis. A computer program named RCAHEST (Reinforced Concrete Analysis in Higher Evaluation System Technology), for the analysis of reinforced concrete structures was used. Material non-linearity is taken Into account by comprising tensile, compressive and shear models of cracked concrete and a model of reinforcing steel. From the results, determine the reliability index for the failure base on the Euro Code. Then, calculate additional reduction coefficient to satisfy the goals from the reliability analysis. The proposed numerical method for the load capacity assesment of reinforced concrete deep beams is verified by comparison with the others methods.

Since the blast vibration induced by explosives of the powder possibly provide damage of the nearby structures adjacent to the tunnel, the stability of the nearby structures should be estimated. In this study, the stability of the tunnel based on the allowable peak particle velocity of the structures as well as allowable stress of the structures presented in the concrete structural design standard was estimated with respect to the stress of the concrete lining and axial force of the rockbolt during the blasting operation at the ground surface of the pre-existing tunnel. The analyses were carried out by using $FLAC^{2D}$ which is one of the programs developed based on the finite difference method. The bending compressive stress and shear stress of the concrete lining and axial force of the rockbolt were rapidly increased when the blasting operation was conducted near the tunnel.
A number of experiments were performed to investigate the punching shear strength of flat plate-column connections. According to the experiments, the punching shear strength varies significantly with design parameters such as the column size of the connection, reinforcement ratio, and boundary condition. However, current design methods do not properly address the effects of such design parameters. In the present study, a theoratical approach using Rankine's failure cirterion was attempted to define the failure mechanism of the punching shear According to the study, the failure mechanism can be classified into the compression-controlled and the tension-controlled, depending on the amount of bottom re-bars placed at the connection, and the punching shear strength is also significantly affected by the flexural damage of slab. Based on the finding, a new strength model of punching shear was developed, and verified by the comparisons with existing experiments and nonlinear finite element analyses. The comparisons show that the proposed strength model addressing the effects of various design parameters can predict accurately the punching shear strength, compared to the existing strength models.
The purpose of this study is to present the resonable guideline of asphalt concrete pavements in apartment complex. To achieve this purpose was performed review of domestic and foreign guidelines, investigation of main distresses of asphalt concrete pavement, and structural analysis for the investigated cross-sections of the pavements in apartment complex. According to results of structural analysis, this study presented the standard cross-section of the pavement with subbase of 20cm, asphalt base of 5cm, and surface of 5cm in apartment complex. In urban areas, traffic is generally opened after asphalt base course is placed because of civil complaint by dust. Surface course is placed after all of work are completed. Considering these conditions, this study also presented the standard cross-section of the pavement with subbase of 20cm, asphalt base of 7cm, and surface of 5cm for urban areas that expect civil complaints by dust.
The design provisions for the maximum steel ratio in reinforced concrete flexural members is normally provided to ensure sufficient ductility and economy by steel yielding at member failure. In the Concrete Structural Design Code (2012), the maximum steel ratio is expressed in terms of a net strain in tensile steel, and leading to very high steel ratio in the case of using high strength materials. Thereby, this may result in difficulty to satisfy a required workability at concrete placing. On the contrary, in the Korean Highway Bridge Design Code (Limit State Design) the maximum steel ratio is given in terms of the maximum neutral axis depth ratio that is 0.4. From these results, a rational model for the maximum steel ratio is suggested so as to satisfy a ductility as well as a workability.

The horizontal shear capacity when the flange of a steel girder is replaced with 80 MPa concrete is important for its structural safety. In this study, 6 specimens with different interface conditions were designed and fabricated based on the Limit State Design Code on Korean Highway Bridges and static tests were performed to measure the horizontal shear capacity. Not only the resistance factors of the stud shear connector, concrete and reinforcement, but also the surface conditions of the casing concrete and spacing of the horizontal shear reinforcements were used as the experimental variables. The experiments showed that the interfaces between the steel girder and the concrete flange have stronger joint performance than those between the concrete flange and deck slab. To ensure the composite action in the plastic zone, the conservative horizontal shear reinforcement is more important than the roughness in the concrete face.
