Representing protein three-dimensional structure by concatenating a sequence of protein fragments gives an efficient application in analysis, modeling, search, and prediction of protein structures. This paper investigated the effective combination of distance measures, which can exploit large protein structure database, in order to construct a protein fragment library representing native protein structures accurately. Clustering method was used to construct a protein fragment library. Initial clustering stage used inter alpha-carbon distance having low time complexity, and cluster extension stage used the combination of inter alpha-carbon distance, Binet-Cauchy distance, and root mean square deviation. Protein fragment library was constructed by leveraging large protein structure database using the proposed combination of distance measures. This library gives low root mean square deviation in the experiments representing protein structures with protein fragments.

The mutation operation is the main operation in the evolutionary programming which has been widely used for the optimization of real valued function. In general, the mutation operation utilizes both a probability distribution and its parameter to change values of variables, and the parameter itself is subject to its own mutation operation which requires other parameters. However, since the optimal values of the parameters entirely depend on a given problem, it is rather hard to find an optimal combination of values of parameters when there are many parameters in a problem. To solve this shortcoming at least partly, if not entirely, in this paper, we propose a new mutation operation in which the parameter for the variable mutation is theoretically estimated from the self-adaptive perspective. Since the proposed algorithm estimates the scale parameter of the Cauchy probability distribution for the mutation operation, it has an advantage in that it does not require another mutation operation for the scale parameter. The proposed algorithm was tested against the benchmarking problems. It turned out that, although the relative superiority of the proposed algorithm from the optimal value perspective depended on benchmarking problems, the proposed algorithm outperformed for all benchmarking problems from the perspective of the computational time.

In this paper, I examined the representation of post-colonialism focusing on the spaces in Modern Boy and Assassination. These movies represented Bon-jung and Jong-no as a mixed-residence quarter, over the dual city theory, the orthodoxy of geography. It can be interpreted as the birth of a hybrid subject in post-colonialism. The representation of Bon-jong in Modern Boy was centered around Mitsukoshi Department Rooftop Garden, Namsan Music Center and Myeongdong Cathedral. The representation of Bon-jung in Assassination was centered around Anemone Cafe and Mitsukoshi Department Store. Set in the history of the new building the Japanese Government General of Korea in Jong-no, Modern Boy used it as a place of struggle. The representation of Jong-no in Assassination was centered around the mansion of Kang In-kuk, a pro-Japanese collaborator. Modern Boy and Assassination showed the post-colonialism that breaks through modern binary oppositions by a 'female' national heroine. describing Bon-jung as both a mixed-residence quarter and the original home of post-colonialism movement, they also showed a different aspect from the existing Kyung-sung representations.

The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of socio-demographic characteristics, communication ability and cultural identity on marital satisfaction among Kosian housewives living in rural areas. The findings of this study are summarized as follows; First, most Kosian housewives' motivation for international marriage is to seek economic advancement, but 30% of the respondents are below the minimum standard of living. Second, the mean score of Korean cultural identity(KCid) fell into the medium level of the scale, and it was higher than that of original cultural identity(OCid) Third, OCid showed statistically significant relations with age, nationality, occupation in their country, religion, number of children, period of marriage, and motivation for marriage. Fourth, more than half of them fell into the low level communication ability group. The high level communication ability group marked higher scores of KCid than the low level group. Fifth, the high level KCid group marked higher scores in marriage satisfaction than the low group. However, no statistical differences between high and low groups were found in OCid. Fifth, KCid is found to have the most strong impact on marriage satisfaction. The higher the score of KCid and of yearly mean income, the scores of marriage satisfaction were higher. And the lower the score of OCid and of education level, the scores of marriage satisfaction were lower.

This study investigated the microbiological and nutritional characteristics of bimonthly radish sprouts purchased at a local market. The total bacteria and coliform measurements were highest in summer (June and August) and lowest in winter (February and December). The total phenol content was $16.82{\pm}0.69GAEmg/g$, and it did not significantly differ during the investigation period. The total carotenoid contents were highest in February (about $12.81{\pm}0.49$ ${\beta}$-carotene mg/g) and lowest in April (about $8.09{\pm}1.01$ ${\beta}$-carotene mg/g). However although total glucosinolates content differ between the total crude glucosinolate and the sum of the individual glucosinolates, it was highest in December. The individual glucosinolates were found to have been gucoraphenin, glucoerucin, glucobrassicin and gluconasturtiin in radish sprouts via HPLC analysis. The purchasing time of the glucoraphenin content did not significantly differ. The measured glucoerucin was highest in February and lowest in October. The gucobrassicin and gluconasturtiin were higher in summer than in winter, but did not significantly differ. The antioxidant activity (i.e., the $IC_{50}$ values of the DPPH radical scavenging) was highest in February. In conclusion, the microbial contamination, total carotenoids, and antioxidant activity changed according to the purchasing season, but the total phenolic compounds and total glucosinolates were maintained regardless of the time in the radish sprouts.
