  • A new circular ring position camera tomographic system termed "Oscillatory Dichotomic Ring" system is proposed and its performance is simulated. It is basically a circular ring system, composed of two half rings, which has the capability of scanning so that any sampling intervals can be obtained. Since finer sampling means poorer photon statistcs, simulations with varous signal dependent statistical noise effects, ray sampling and arrangement as well as related artifacts peculiar to the proposed Dichotomic Ring system are made.

  • Progressive massive fibrosis (PMF) with atypical findings is often misdiagnosed as lung cancer. Atypical features of PMF have been described in some reports; however, these reports only introduced their cases with a short literature review. We report two cases of solitary PMFs with no underlying simple pneumoconiosis or rapid growth at atypical location that were mistaken for lung cancer. We also suggest the useful CT findings to aid in the differential diagnosis.

PET과 CT에서 각각 4개(GLRLM_GLNU, SHAPE_Compacity only for 3D ROI, SHAPE_Volume_vx, SHAPE_Volume_mL)와 2개(NGLDM_Busyness, TLG_ml)의 image texture feature를 모델의 생성에 사용하였다.

  • Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers and causes several complications in females. Currently, MRI is a necessary method for preoperative studies in patients with breast cancer. A high frequency of breast MRI can lead to an increase in the number of incidental extramammary findings. Moreover, it can provide accurate preoperative workup; therefore, the prognosis of patients can be improved. Herein, we provide several extramammary findings, including the mediastinum, lung, upper abdomen, bone, and soft tissue, correlating with US, chest CT, liver MRI, PET-CT, and bone scan.

  • CT-guided percutaneous transthoracic needle biopsy (PTNB) plays a key role in the diagnosis of pulmonary abnormalities. Although the procedure is considered safe and effective, there exists a potential for complications, such as pneumothorax, hemorrhage, hemoptysis, air embolism, and tumor seeding. However, pneumatoceles after CT-guided PTNB have been rarely reported. Herein, we report two cases of pneumatoceles that developed immediately after PTNB for primary lung cancer. A pneumatocele filled with hematoma should be considered in cases with a newly developed nodule along the needle tract during short-term follow-up CT after PTNB.

  • Parathyroid glands are small endocrine glands that regulate calcium metabolism by producing parathyroid hormone (PTH). These are located at the back of the thyroid gland. Typically, four glands comprise the parathyroid glands, although their numbers may vary among individuals. Parathyroid diseases are related to parathyroid gland dysfunction and can be caused by problems with the parathyroid gland itself or abnormal serum calcium levels arising from renal disease. In recent years, as comprehensive health checkups have become more common, abnormal serum calcium levels are often found incidentally in blood tests, after which several additional tests, including a PTH test, ultrasonography (US), technetium-99m sestamibi parathyroid scan, single-photon-emission CT (SPECT)/CT, four-dimensional CT (4D-CT), and PET/CT, are performed for further evaluation. However, the parathyroid gland remains an organ less familiar to radiologists. Therefore, the normal anatomy, pathophysiology, imaging, and clinical findings of the parathyroid gland and its associated diseases are discussed here.

  • Purpose. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effects of image matching experience of operators on the accuracy and working time of image registration between radiographic and optical scan images. Materials and methods. Computed tomography and optical scan of a dentate dental arch were obtained. Image matching between the computed tomography and the optical scan (IDC S1, Amann Girrbach, Koblah, Austria) was performed using the point-based automatic registration method in planning software programs (Implant Studio, 3Shape, Copenhagen, Denmark) using two different experience conditions on image registration: experienced group and inexperienced group (n = 15 per group, N = 30). The accuracy of image registration in each group was evaluated by measuring linear discrepancies between matched images, and working time was recorded. Independent t test was used to statistically analyze the result data (α = .05). Results. In the linear deviation, no statistically significant difference was found between the experienced and inexperienced groups. Meanwhile, the working time for image registration was significantly shorter in the experienced group than in the inexperienced group (P = .007). Conclusion. Difference in the image matching experience may not influence the accuracy of image registration of optical scan to computed tomography when the point-based automatic registration was used, but affect the working time for the image registration.

  • May-Thurner syndrome (MTS) is a rare cause of deep vein thrombosis. Several cases of MTS because of various causes have been reported. However, MTS due to osteophytes in patients with underlying diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis (DISH) has not been reported in English literature, to the best of our knowledge. Here, we present the CT findings of MTS in patient with DISH.

  • CT(computed tomography, CT) examinations is one of the most useful diagnostic equipment for identifying information in the human body in diagnostic radiology. Recently, the number of CT scans is increasing every year due to the high reliability of CT scans. Increasing the number of tests will accelerate the aging of CT devices, which is why the importance of quality management for CT devices is on the rise. Particularly in CT, quality management refers to a behavior of figuring out and correcting all sorts of hindrance factors that can cause all the problems related to the equipment associated with the diminishment of diagnosed area due to the reduction of image quality in clinical imaging in advance and maintaining a consistent level of image quality and obtaining a proper image. Here, these researchers aim to summarize and report the general contents of quality management in CT.

  • A 12-year-old neutered male Shih Tzu presented with constipation and dyschezia. Abdominal radiographs showed distension of the descending colon and dorsal compression of the colon by a soft tissue mass. The mass was well-marginated with homogeneous soft tissue attenuation and showed no evidence of metastasis on computed tomography (CT). The dynamic CT showed a consistently mild contrast enhancement. The perfusion and capillary permeability were lower than those of the gluteal muscle. The tentative imaging diagnosis was a benign intrapelvic tumor, which rarely shows angiogenesis. The mass was excised, and a leiomyoma was confirmed by histopathologic examination.
