  • To achieve higher customer service, the operational efficiency of container terminal is important. So, to improve loading/unloading speed and reduce the time spending of berth, efficient ship planning is performed in advance. But, the condition of container terminal can be changed frequently and the pre-planning is not enough to operate container terminal sufficiently, so that we need real-time planning. This paper aims to define the problem of job reallocation of quay crane to minimize total operation time, and find the solution.

  • In this study the structural design of conveyor frame was carried out for the high efficiency gantry crane which can improve the productivity of the container transportation job by reducing cycle time. When the gantry crane was operated, the conveyor frame was deflected largely by its deadload and the total weight of containers placed on it. Therefore thicknesses of conveyor frame to minimize its deadload were designed by the size optimization using ANSYS program as the bending stress and the deflection of frame due to this simulation satisfied their required values.

  • The rail clamp is the device to prevent that a crane slips along rails due to the wind blast as well as locate the crane in the set position for loading and unloading containers. The wedge type rail clamp should be designed to consider the structural stability and the durability because it compresses both rail side with large clamping force by the wedge working as the wind speed increases. In this research, the kriging interpolation method using sequential sampling is utilized to find the optimum shape of the jaw in the rail clamp. The suggested method predicts more accurate response value than the response surface method. The optimum results obtained by the proposal method are compared with those by the commercial software.

  • In this paper, we designed a wedge type rail-clamp which can protect container crane from sudden wind blast with constant clamping force regardless of the operating period. When we design wedge type rail clamp, it is important to determine an angle of wedge which prevent rotating of jaw and for smooth operation when wind blows. Therefore, this paper suggest a process to decide an angle of wedge within proper range obtained by experimental analysis as well as FEA of the wedge type rail clamp. A model with $6^{\circ}$ wedge angle is the most proper model to use in rail clamp bemuse it generated satisfactory clamping force and rotating angle underdesign specification.

  • Recently, an automatic crane control system is required with high speed and rapid transportation. Therefore, when container is transferred from th intial coordinate to the finial coordinate, the container paths should be built in terms of the least time and no swing. So in this paper, we calculated the anti-collision path for avoiding collision in its movement to the finial coordinate. And we constructed the neural network predictive PID (NNPPID) controller to control the precise navigation. The proposed predictive control system is composed of the neural network predictor, PID controller, neural network self-tuner which yields parameters of PID. Analyzed crane system through simulation, and proved excellency of control performance than other conventional controllers.

Comparing Expected Numbers of Re-Handles for Empty Containers During Gate-Out Operation (공 컨테이너 반출 시 발생하는 재취급 횟수 비교)

  • If empty containers from multiple shipping liners are mixed together in the same bay, then the space utilization increases; however, the expected number of re-handles also increases. Formulas for estimating the expected number of re-handles are derived for various storage strategies and two types of handling equipment. The expected number of re-handles is compared, through numerical experiments, among those cases. The results of the numerical experiments are used to analyze the change in the number of expected re-handles according to the change in the retrieval ratio and repair ratio. The impacts of the change in the bay size and the distribution of the storage and retrieval ratio of containers among multiple vessel liners on the expected number of re-handles are analyzed. It is necessary to study efficient operational strategies considering the expected number of re-handles for empty containers.

  • The container has the inherent number which for distinguish among containers. When containers were handled, the container No. identify work must be precede. The work goes by fond in Most of the ports. It has not only inefficient time and cost but also error as worker's condition. The measure is operated that to use the camera on the spreader of quay crone to solve that problem. This measure, however, showed up the difference q recognition rates at weather, camera's condition, etc The ways could be considered both improvement of hardware and conversion of error number to solve the measure. This paper defines the problem and study an efficient solution.

  • Delay time of receiving and delivery is one of important factors that should be considered in the evaluation of the customer service level of a container terminal. In this study, dispatching rules are tested with the objective of minimizing the service delay time for arriving outside trucks. A dynamic programming model is suggested for a static dispatching problem in which all the truck arrivals are known in advance. In order to overcome the excessive computational time of the dynamic programming technique, several heuristic rules are suggested that can be applied in practices. A simulation study is carried out to test the performances of the heuristic rules.

A Study on Swing Motion Control System Design for the Spreader of the Crane (크레인 스프레더의 Swing Motion 제어에 관한 연구)

  • In general, the swing motion of the crane is controlled and suppressed by activating the trolley motion. In this paper, we suggest a new type of anti-sway control system of the crane. In the proposed control system, a small auxiliary mass(moving-mass) is installed on the spreader and the swing motion is controlled by moving the auxiliary mass. The actuator reaction against the auxiliary mass applies inertial control forces to the container to reduce the swing motion in the desired manner. In this paper, we apply the $H_{\infty}$ based control technique to the anti-sway control system design problem. And the experimental result shows that the proposed control system is shown to be useful and robust to disturbances like winds and initial sway motion.
