Community design education has covered the worldview dimension of the collaborative courses for sustainability draws on the architectural expertise developed in a network of community projects and therefore case studies of design education by the collaborative project-based learning in terms of participants, students, teachers and architects, such as 'Learning By Design' for the K-12 comprehensive program in Massachusetts addresses how a local society can make its community sustainable by both design and education. To understand that community design and education can provide professional development in all levels of skills and knowledge across disciplines and opportunities for collaborative learning and problem-solving, this research consists of case studies of the community design education including social systems that assist in organizing the local educational program as well as promoting the programs with public awareness of the community. It covers the UNESCO-UIA agenda of the community design and education that is to enhance the physical environment relating to human interaction by developing innovative alternatives of existing community and contributing voluntarily to neighborhoods through design. As the community design collaborative of design professionals and users is a structural approach to assess design quality, the cases address how to set up the architectural program in order to share pro bono design service and provide high-quality design resources available for sustainable environment.

This Study is to analyse the community-consciousness depending on the location type of the neighborhood facility in apartment complex, in order to set up the fundamental criteria for the location type which can increase the community-consciousness. For the purpose of this study, Shopping center, Playground and Resting Area are selected among the neighborhood facilities and they were analysed on the basis of the Belonging-Sense, Affection-sense and the personnel Interchange. The results of this study are as follows: Shopping center should be located in the Main-Enterance of Apartment Complex and be constructed as low building along the street. In case of the Playground that was compared with the Central type and Decentral type, the Central type is proper for the increasing of community-consciousness. In case of the Resting Area that was compared with the Mixture type involving a playground and Independent type except for a playground, the independent type is acceptable for the location-type to increase the community-consciousness owing to all analyses.

Being able to enjoy leisure time for adolescents is a necessary activity, for it helps them relieve their anxiety and stress and develop their potential. It is necessary to incorporate such spaces in the housing plans in advance and support diverse community activities. The current living spaces do not hold proper spaces and facilities for community activities appropriate for adolescents. Community facilities should be planned so as to reflect the needs of these adolescents, based on a clear survey in advance. The current study has conducted a survey to find out about the level of satisfaction and requests from adolescents on the leisure facilities their current living spaces hold. Based on this prior research, this study looks for solutions that could solve the issue at hand. The current community facilities are not convenient to support a diversity of leisure activities to the adolescents. The community facilities should be able to supplement information on the various activities put in place for the youth and widely supply the programs in demand. Furthermore, the adolescents wanted to form their own community within the facilities to practice their leisurely activities. We can safely assume that the youth's desire for more community amenities will increase for their own development.

This study aims to determine adolescents' emotional response and preferences for varying interior designs of learning spaces available at community facilities in apartment across Seoul. In particular, the subjects have been fragmented by gender and age for comparative analysis of emotional responses across different demographics of adolescents. A survey on the preferred designs of learning spaces in community facilities revealed that 'elegant,' 'cheerful,' and 'temperate' are the three main emotional words selected for image tool development. Emotional assessment verified the validity of these terms. Between the two genders, adolescent males preferred 'temperate' images more while adolescent females preferred 'cheerful.' In terms of the design of learning space, adolescent females deemed the interior atmosphere and area space to be the most important factors, while adolescent males pointed to the color of furniture and lighting to be the most important. Such results imply that there is a clear difference of emotional response between adolescent males and females. The results also imply that different atmospheres and design priorities must be considered when designing gender-specific spaces.

This study examines the current status on the supply of community facilities based on the supply criteria of present welfare facilities. Analyzing satisfaction of residents about community facilities based on physical supply criteria. The study sets up the concept and proposed trend of the related studies and distinction through the examination of previous researches. Next, the present systematical supply criteria, was used to make indication in order to propose the promotion of improvement on supply criteria for community facilities. Multi dimensional analyzing system and the satisfaction level of the community facility was used to analyze the relationship between the two. The direction of policy improvement according to the analysis is as per the following. First, it is necessary to improve supply criteria of household to guarantee the minimal amount of space. Second, specification of the minimum distance of community facility to residential area in the complex is needed. Also, the presentation of bottom boundary line of the formation area size to expand the size up to minimal level of size is needed. Third, resident exercise facility supply criteria among the community facility supply criteria need to be improved from the number of household base to the size for each household base. Forth, resident resting facility criteria among the community facility supply criteria should be changed from the present criteria of one facility per five hundred households.

This study analyzes interior features of indoor community facilities, focused on apartment complexes in capital area selected by 'Award of best living apartment' during $2000{\sim}2007$. First we analyze community facilities' concept, present standards of installment, present condition, then the size of each complex compared with legal standards. Also, we analyze interior features(spacial layout, furniture and furnishings, interior finishing materials, interior color), too. Research methods included both data survey and site visiting inquiry. Data survey method analyzes size of each complex using community facilities' floor plans, and site visiting inquiry analyzes type and feature of community facilities. Survey target was total 11 complexes, 7 in Seoul, 4 in Gyeonggi-do. The result is as follows. 1) It is needed to improve legal standards of installment, and to provide space with flexibility and changeability in order to allow alternation of usage purpose by resident's claim. 2) To determine size of community facilities, we must planned not only by the number of households, but by legal standards of supply according to the number of households, the rate of net area, and the recommended size per person. 3) The area of community facilities in apartment complex that residents use doesn't considered user's convenience. So it us needed to add each facility's recommendation in response to user's needs.

This study examines the effectiveness of a new community facility operation and management system that were implemented by one of the major construction companies. This system was an unprecedented approach in a sense that it provided not only necessary facilities but also a specialized management staff, an operational manual, and a subsidy for various programs. According to POE conducted among the residents, it can be concluded that the residents' satisfaction will be increased under the following conditions; 1) when a program manual associated with the community facility is provided, 2) when there is a professional staff who can coordinate various programs effectively, 3) when the facilities are well designed in accordance with the program requirements, 4) when the users adhere to regulations and management standards, 5) when all three components- i.e. facility, people and programs- are well coordinated, and 6) when affordable user fees are charged. This research assures that professional management staff and well-planned management system play a significant role in the enhancement of the residents' satisfaction as well as vitalizations of the community.

The purpose of this study is to examine the awareness of apartment residents on their using tendency of community facilities established in apartment complex in order to verify a role that such facilities play in making contributions to lives of apartment dwellers and to analyze their using tendency of the facilities and subsequent problems. The study produced the important findings as follows. First, the level of exchange among residents and their satisfaction were raised high in the apartment complex that offered substantial community facilities. Second, in regard to physical aspect, community activities among dwellers were brisk in the apartment complex where community facilities were organically connected. Third, fitness center, shower room and golf course were excessive in terms of space provided while the space alloted for G.X room, a place used exclusively for class, was insufficient. Fourth, the analysis of using tendency and preference level showed that fitness center, shower room and G.X room were the required facilities. The rooms for using PCs and watching DVDs and the singing room were found to be unnecessary because such facilities were low in the effectiveness when the operating cost was considered.

Adolescence is differentiated from other development stages for the significant physical and emotional changes a person goes through that stage. This study has surveyed communal residencies in the Seoul area and the community facilities within them and has analyzed their correlation with the adolescents' emotional reactions according to their school age. This study is concerned with evaluating the perceptions of teenagers towards learning, cultural, and exercise facilities. These adjectives were positioned on the IRI adjective images to obtain representative words such as "noble", "gentle", and "cheerful" for the purpose of analysis. Furthermore, each representative word was assigned a color and then made into a simulation for the EEG experiment. The EEG signals of the teenagers in different educational levels indicated that EEG signals of high school students were more activated compared to that of middle school students and both groups responded to the "cheerful" images with high EEG signals. Therefore, in order for community facilities within communal residencies to actively support and activate leisure and academic activities for adolescents, they have to be connected to their emotional characteristics. It is also important to minutely plan according to their school age.

Recently, the role of community in public design has become important. However, the design process often places only emphasis on the 'agreement' of the community. As a result, the process was forced to collect opinions from the community only passively. Also, a process that only focuses on the formation of an agreement is likely to provoke confrontations and conflicts between those who support and oppose it. In the end, persuasion by the opposing residents is more important than decision-making by the whole community. Therefore, it has recently been paying attention to 'decision-making' that values a variety of things, not 'agreement formation'. Because various values of the community are valued and process is more important than result, 'decision-making' is different from 'agreement formation'. South Korea is also paying attention to public design, where community decision-making is central. Therefore, it is very necessary to develop a methodology that can support community decision making. In Jeju, the community's decision-making support methodology was devised for urban regeneration. The purpose of this study is to examine the characteristics of this methodology and to reveal its potential and challenge as a decision-supporting methodology.
