Analysis of Frictional Characteristics of Direct-Acting OHC Valve Train System Equipped with HLA (HLA를 장착한 직접 구동형 OHC 밸브 트레인 시스템의 마찰 특성 해석)

  • A dynamic model of direct-acting OHC valve train system has been used to determine the load conditions in the system. The modified equations for calculating the friction forces between cam and HLA, and at a camshaft bearing have been defined considering the lubrication conditions. Then, to understand the frictional characteristics in the system, a parameter study has been performed. As the results of the analysis, valve spring stiffness and preload have great effects on the friction in the system, but the effects of other parameters are negligible. So, how to design the valve train system with respect to the reduction of friction is to minimize the valve spring stiffness and preload in the limit of satisfying the dynamic constraints.

  • The flash temperature distribution on the contact surfaces between cam and roller-follower mechanism was analysed numerically. The elasto-hydrodynamic lubrication pressure and film thickness were used to get the accurate analysis results. The temperature distribution was obtained by numerical integration by making use of Carslaw and Jaeger's formulation to the whole contact surfaces. The maximum flash temperature was increased with both the increasing slip ratio of the contact surface and increasing external load Profile of the temperature distribution was affected by the sliding velocity of the surface.

  • 기존의 소형엔진은 캬브레이터 연료 공급 장치를 사용하는 방식으로 연비 및 배기가스 성분이 매우 열악한 실정이다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 단점을 극복하기위하여 전자분사장치를 장착하기위한 설계 및 작동기법에 대한 연구를 수행하였다. 소형엔진은 저가의 범용 동력장치로서 전자화를 위하여 최소한의 제어장치 만으로 구성되어야 한다 일반적으로 전자화를 위해서는 크랭크 축과 캠축의 위상각 신호를 통하여 연료분사와 점화를 제어하는 것이 일반적인 통례이나 본 연구에서는 크랭크 축의 CPS센서와 흡기포트의 압력변동을 이용하여 연료분사와 점화를 제어하는 기구와 장치를 설계 개발하였다. 본 장치는 저가의 범용 엔진에 적용이 가능하며 제어반복성에도 우수한 특성을 보였다.

The Chacteristics of Load on the Cam-Valve Mechanism for the Marine Diesel Engine (박용 디젤기관의 캠-밸브기구 하중특성)

  • In this study both the experimental and the analytic approach to find load characteristics on the cam-valve mechanism for matrine diesel engine were demonstrated. The experiment was per-formed with a test rig consisted of real engine components for cam-valve mechanism of overhead valve type. The 9-degree of freedom lumped mass model was developed to simulate cam-valve motion throughly. Behavior of the load acting on the cam-valve mechanism was estimated for the various cam speed. The load variation was getting deeper with the higher cam speed and the jumping of the follower was shown both in the experiment and in the simulation.

  • This paper is concerned on kinematic analysis and simulation of an automatic feeding mechanism subjected by the motion of a curvilinear inverse cam. The main objection is the development of computer-aided design (CAD) program for simulating the motion of the cam-feeding mechanism using computer-graphics. A computer program CACAFS (Computer-Aided Cam and Automatic Feeding System) is independent of computer hardware used. The program is also interactive using a menu-selection technique. As the second part of the paper for the motion simulation of the cam-feeding system, this paper discusses the state-of-art for CAD. The first part of the paper presents the algorithm to simulate the notion of the cam-feeding mechanism.

  • This paper is concerned on kinematic analysis and simulation of an automatic feeding mechanism subjected by the motion of a curvilinear inverse can. The curvilinear cam is rotated by positioning a translating roller and the automatic feeding mechanism is moved to the sliding position by the motion of a campin fixed on the curvilinear cam. The curvilinear cam consists of two arcs of circles and two straight lines. The modular approach is used for the kinematic analysis of the feeding mechanism.   • In this study, a numerical procedure to analyze 3-dimensional unsteady elastohydrodynamic lubrication was developed. The procedure was applied to the actual cam and roller follower of the valve mechanism for a marine diesel engine. The pressure distribution between the cam and roller follower was calculated for the several cam rotating angles. The pressure spike is shown near the roller edge and it is getting higher as the external load is increased. The roller profile for reducing the pressure spike was suggested by the Hertzian contact analysis.

  • This paper presents the reverse design of a cam mechanism using NURBS(Nonuniform Rational B-spline curve). Cam is very difficult to make the accurate shape on the design and the manufacture. Because the cam shape is commonly made in order to move in special functions. The reverse design can be used to check accuracy between the designed data and the manufactured data of the cam shape and also reproduce the cam without the design data. The reverse design procedures consist of motion analysis and curve fitting. The motion analysis is used the central difference method and the relative velocity method to find the displacement and velocity. The curve fitting is used NURBS to develope the whole curve. The central difference method is derived in the 3 dimensional space.

  • The numerical procedure to analyze a non-steady 3-dimensional elastohydrodynamic lubrication on the cyclically loaded contact has been newly developed. The procedure was applied on the cam-roller contact of the valve mechanism for the marine diesel engine. Both the pressure distribution and the film thickness between the cam and roller follower were calculated for each time step of the whole cycle. The pressure spike is shown at the outlet of the roller edge and it is getting higher as the external load is increased. The film thicknesses in the result of the non-steady analysis have a tendency to increase compared to those in the result of the analysis with the assumption of steady state. Therefore, the surface roughness of the non-steady contact need not be limited below that of the steady contact of the equivalent operating conditions.

  • When a mechanism transfers a motion to an intersected shaft, a cylindrical cam mechanism may be the best choice among the mechanisms. The cylindrical cam with a roller follower provides to transfer the motions to the intersect shafts simply without other connecting equipments of the intersect shafts. Typical example may be a roller-gear-cam mechanism. But the shape of the cam must be exactly defined in order to satisfy the conditions for the prescribed motion of the follower. This paper proposes a new method for the shape design of the cylindrical cams and also a CAD program is developed by using the proposed method. The relative velocity method calculates the relative velocity of the follower versus the cam at a center of roller, and then determines a contact point by using the geometric relationships and the kinematic constraints. The constraint used in the relative velocity method is that the relative velocity must be parallel to a common tangent line at the contact point of two independent bodies, i. e. the cam and the follower. Then, the shape of the cam is defined by the coordinate transformation of the trace of the contact points. Finally, this paper presents an example in order to prove the accuracy of the proposed methods in this paper and the application of the CAD program"CamDesign".
