Document Replacement Policy Considering Site Popularity (사이트의 인기도를 고려한 도큐먼트 교체정책)

  • 대부분의 웹 캐시는 도큐먼트를 기반으로 하여 캐시 내에 임시적으로 도큐먼트를 저장하고 사용자의 요청이 있을 때 그에 해당된 도큐먼트가 캐시 내에 존재하면 그 도큐먼트를 사용자에게 전송해 주고, 캐시 내에 존재하지 않을 때에는 새로운 도큐먼트를 서버에게 요청하여 캐시 내에 복사를 하고 사용자에게 되돌려 준다. 이때 캐시의 용량 초과로 인해 새로운 도큐먼트를 기존의 도큐먼트와 교체하기 위해 도큐먼트 교체정책(replacement police)을 사용한다. 일반적인 교체정책에는 도큐먼트를 기반으로 한 LRU기법이나 LFU기법 등이 있고, 이러한 여러 가지 교체정책을 사용하여 캐시내의 도큐먼트를 효과적으로 교체한다. 하지만, 위의 교체정책은 사이트의 인기도를 고려하지 않고 도큐먼트 요청 빈도수 만을 고려하여 교체정책을 수행한다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 요청이 빈번한 도큐먼트와 사이트의인기도를 고려한 교체정책을 사용하여 요청이 빈번하지 않은 도큐먼트를 효과적으로 교체함으로써 캐시의 적중률(hit-rate)을 높이고, 캐시의 내용을 효과적으로 관리할 수 있는 현대적인 네트워크 환경에 적합한 도큐먼트 교체정책인 사이트의 인기도를 고려한 도큐먼트 교체 정책을 제시한다.

Document Replacement Policy by Site Popularity in Web Cache (웹 캐시에서 사이트의 인기도에 의한 도큐먼트 교체정책)

  • Most web caches save documents temporarily into themselves on the basis of those documents. And when a corresponding document exists within the cache on wei s request, web cache sends the document to corresponding user. On the contrary, when there is not any document within the cache, web cache requests a new document to the related server to copy the document into the cache and then rum it back to user. Here, web cache uses a replacement policy to change existing document into a new one due to exceeded capacity of cache. Typical replacement policy includes document-based LRU or LFU technique and other various replacement policies are used to replace the documents within cache effectively. However, these replacement policies function only with regard to the time and frequency of document request, not considering the popularity of each web site. Based on replacement policies with regard to documents on frequent requests and the popularity of each web site, this paper aims to present the document replacement policies with regard to the popularity of each web site, which are suitable for latest network environments to enhance the hit-ratio of cache and efficiently manage the contents of cache by effectively replacing documents on intermittent requests by new ones.

  • Content Central Network (CCN) appeared to improve network efficiency by transforming IP-based network into content name-based network structures. Each router performs caching mechanism to improve network efficiency in the CCN. And the cache replacement policy applied to the CCN router is an important factor that determines the overall performance of the CCN. Therefore various studies has been done relating to cache replacement policy of the CCN. In this paper, we proposed a cache replacement policy that improves the limitations of the LFU policy. The proposal algorithm applies real-time producer popularity-based variables. And through experiments, we proved that the proposed policy shows a better cache hit ratio than existing policies.

  • Cache mechanism, which has been a research subject for a significant period of time in computer science, has become realized in the form of web caching in network practice. Web caching has various advantages, such as saving of network resources and response time reduction, depends its performance on cache replacement policy, therefore, analysis and consideration of the environment in which a web cache operates is essential for designing better replacement policies. Thus, in the current web environment where is rapidly changing relative to the past, a new cache replacement policy is necessary to reflect those changes. In this paper we stipulate some characteristics of the web at present, propose a new cache replacement policy, and evaluate it.

Keeping-ownership Cache Replacement Policies for Remote Access Caches of NUMA System (NUMA 시스템에서 소유권에 근거한 원격 캐시 교체 정책)

  • NUMA systems have remote access caches(RAC) in each local node to reduce the overhead for repeated remote memory accesses. By this RAC, memory latency and network traffic can be reduced and the performance of the multiprocessor system can be improved. Until now, several cache replacement policies have been proposed in recent years, and there also is cache replacement policy for multiprocessor systems. In this paper, we propose a cache replacement policy which is based on cache line coherence information. In this policy, the cache line that does not have an ownership is replaced first with respect to cache line that has an ownership. Like this way, the overhead to transfer ownership is avoided and the memory latency can be decreased. We also propose “Keeping-Ownership replacement policy with MRU (KOM)” and “Keeping-Ownership replacement policy with Reference Bit(KORB)” to reduce the frequent replacement penalty of the ownership-lacking cache line. We compare and analyze these with LRU and Pseudo LRU(PLRU). The simulation shows that KOM outperforms the PLRU by 25%, and KORB outperforms the PLRU by 13%. Although the hardware cost of KOM is very small, the performance of KOM is nearly equal to that of the LRU.

  • 최근 인터넷 기반 서비스 환경의 질적개선과 이에 따른 이용자 증가에 따라. 오디오나 동영상과 같은 규모가 크고 동적 특성을 가진 웹 컨텐츠의 수가 증가하는 추세이다. 이에 따라 'hit ratio' 뿐만 아니라 오브젝트의 크기를 기반으로 하는 'byte hit ratio' 또한 캐시 성능을 평가하는 중요한 측정 요소가 되었다. 이러한 측정기준을 대상으로 할 때, 기존의 웹 캐시 교체 정책중 HP연구소의 GDSF (Greedy-Dual-Size with Frequency)알고리즘과 LFU-DA(LFU with Dynamic Aging)알고리즘이 우수한 성능을 보이는 것으로 알려져있는데, 이러한 기존의 웹 캐시 교체 정책은 서버와의 네트워크 상태를 고려하지 않은 정책이고, 이에 따라 네트워크 상태에 따른 전송비용의 차이를 반영하지 못하고 있다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 서버와 웹 캐시 간의 네트워크 상태를 반영할 수 있는 캐시 교체 정책을 제안하고, 이에 대한 실험을 수행하였으며, 그 결과 사용자의 요구에 대한 응답시간의 감소 효과를 얻을 수 있었다.

MLC-LFU : The Multi-Level Buffer Cache Management Policy for Flash Memory (MLC-LFU : 플래시 메모리를 위한 멀티레벨 버퍼 캐시 관리 정책)

  • Recently, NAND flash memory is used not only for portable devices, but also for personal computers and server computers. Buffer cache replacement policies for the hard disks such as LRU and LFU are not good for NAND flash memories because they do not consider about the characteristics of NAND flash memory. CFLRU and its variants, CFLRU/C, CFLRU/E and DL-CFLRU/E(CFLRUs) are the buffer cache replacement policies considered about the characteristics of NAND flash memories, but their performances are not better than those of LRD. In this paper, we propose a new buffer cache replacement policy for NAND flash memory. Which is based on LFU and is taking into account the characteristics of NAND flash memory. And we estimate the performance of hit ratio and flush operation numbers. The proposed policy shows better hit ratio and the number of flush operation than any other policies.

  • 인터넷 사용의 급격한 증가로 인해 웹 정보의 양적 팽창과 더불어 네트워크 병목현상과 웹 서버의 과부하 문제가 증가함에 따라 사용자의 접근 지연시간도 증가하게 되었다. 이러한 접근 지연 시간을 줄이는 방안으로 프록시 캐싱(Proxy Caching)이 사용되었고, 효율적인 프록시 서버 캐시 운영을 위한 캐시 교체정책에 관한 연구가 많이 진행되어 지고 있다. 따라서, 본 논문에서는 서버의 오버헤드를 줄이면서, 캐시에 저장되어 있는 오브젝트를 요청한 클라이언트에게 짧은 지연시간에 전달하고자 하는 개선된 교체 정책 알고리즘을 제안하고 실험을 통해 성능을 평가한다.

  • Content Centric Network(CCN) with architecture that is completely different from traditional host-based networks has emerged to address problems such as the explosion of traffic load in the current network. Research on cache replacement policies is very active to improve the performance of CCN with the characteristics that all routers cache on the network. Therefore, this paper proposes a cache replacement policy suitable for situations in which popularity is constantly changing, taking into account the actual network situation. In order to evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm, we experimented in an environment where the popularity of content is constantly changing, and confirmed that we are superior to the existing replacement policy through comparing hit rates and analyzing server load.
