Autogenous Shrinkage and Engineering Properties of the High Strength Concrete Using Soybean and Waste Edible Oil (식물성 유지 및 폐식용유를 사용한 고강도 콘크리트의 자기수축 및 공학적 특성)

  • This study investigated possibilities for a new reducing shrinkage method of soybean oil(SO) and waste oil(WO) to compare with shrinkage reducing agent(RS) and expansion additive(EA). There was no big difference to flow, air contents, and compressive strength of plain to use SO and WO. For the reducing shrinkage performance, SO and WO was more effective than RS and EA, because their fatty acid reacted with calcium hydroxide of concrete to turn soap. For the pore distribution by porosimter, $0.01{\sim}0.1{\mu}m$ pores of SO and WO were 0 ml/g, and $10{\sim}100{\mu}m$ also remarkably lower than any others. In these results, it inferred that they filled up capillary pore and mitigated autogenous shrinkage by their saponification of their fatty acid and calcium hydroxide.

Effect of Boron on Growth and Yields of Perilla(Perilla frutescens var. japonica HARA), Melon(Cucumis melo L.) and Cucumber(Cucumis sativus L.) (붕소 시용이 들깨, 참외 및 오이의 생육과 수량에 미치는 영향)

  • A pot experiment was carried out to investigate the effect of boron on the growth, symptom, yield, and content of boron in Perilla(Perilla frutescens var. japonica HARA), Melon(Cucumis melo L.) and Cucumber(Cucumis sativus L.). The results obtained are as follows. Perilla. melon and cucumber uptake a lot of boron from the soil, and toxic effects of boron result in leaf tip yellowing by progressive necrosis. Yield of perilla, melon and cucumber are decreased at the $3{\sim}5mg\;kg^{-1}$, $5{\sim}10mg\;kg^{-1}$ of boron applicated in soil, respectively. Boron content in the leaf is the highest among various parts plant, and the tip and margin of the leaf contained more boron than central part of the leaf. Boron applicated was moved and accumulated to the plant and soil.

Identification of Greyish White Material Adhered to Shrouds from Tombs Covered with Lime of the Chosun Dynasty (조선시대 회곽 묘 출토 염습의에 부착된 회백색 물질의 동정)

  • A lot of waterlogged shrouds and mummies have been found in tombs revered with lime of the Chosun Dynasty(1392-1910) of Korea. Shrouds were heavily polluted with greyish white material. Greyish white material, which adhered to shrouds excavated from tombs(16C and 17C), was submitted to FT-IR qualitative analysis and fatty acid analysis for cleaning. The results of the FT-IR qualitative analysis identified the main ingredient of the greyish white material as calcium salt of fatty acid, including a little of the fatty acids, lipids and proteins. Therefore the greyish white material fumed out adipocere which was formed from the degradation of the lipids in a dead body. From the fatty acid analysis, hydroxy fatty acids(10-Hydroxyhexadecanoic acid and 10-Hydroxyoctadecanoic acid), which were found in adipocere, were detected. The distribution of contents of fatty acids was also rimilar to that of adipocere which have a high proportion of palmitic acid of saturated fatty acid and a low proportion of oleic arid of unsaturated fatty acid. In view of the results of analyses, it was revealed that greyish white material adhered to shrouds was adipocere moved from a mummy.

  • Objective of this study was to determine the Si distribution and extent of control of powdery mildew diseases of cucumber(Cucumis sativus L.). The distribution of silicon in the leaf epidermis of cucumber plants grown in hydroponic nutrient solutions supplemented with soluble silicates was examined using scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray analysis. The silicate absorbed from nutrient solution was translocated into cucumber leaves, and accumulated mainly in the cells surrounding the base of trichome hairs. Base cells surrounding the trichomes also had high levels of Si, Ca, and K. Si levels in the epidermal cells for low Si treatment were not detectable except in the trichome bases. Hyphal lengths of powdery mildew occurring on cucumber leaves cultivated in medium with high concentration of silicate were remarkably shorter than those of cucumber leaves cultivated with low concentration of silicate. There was a negative correlation between hyphal length of S. fuliginea and silicate concentrations.

Effects of 1,25 Dihydroxycholecalciferol and Ca Ionophore A23187 on Ca Transports in Bone and Bone Cells (뼈조직과 세포에서의 칼슘이동기전에 대한 1,25 dihydroxycholecaliciferol과 Ca Ionophore A23187의 영향)

  • Various types of evidence suggest that some changes in cellular in cellular calcium may well signal the initiation of a chain of events leading to the physiological effects of the bone resorbing agents. The effects of 1,25-dihydorxycholecalciferol, $1.25\textrm{(OH)}_2\textrm{D}_3$, Ca ionophore A23187 and calcium antagonist, diltiazem on bone resprption and the cellular transport of Ca were investigated. Bone $^{45}\textrm{Ca}$ desaturation experiment was realized in isolated heterogenous rat bone cells after equilibrating the cells with $^{45}\textrm{Ca}$. Results of $^{45}\textrm{Ca}$ desaturation experiments were analysed by fitting the $^{45}\textrm{Ca}$ desaturation curve to a model of 2 exponential terms which indicated the presence of 2 exchangeable cellular calcium pools. $1.25\textrm{(OH)}_2\textrm{D}_3$ (0.5ng/$m\ell$) induced significantly bone resorption which was decreased by the physiological dose of diltiazeme(above 5nmol/$m\ell$) although it was ineffective alone. Ionophore A23187 (0.2$\mu\textrm{g}$/$m\ell$) decreased Ca release from bone but no additivity of effect with diltiazem(20nmol/$m\ell$) was observed. $1.25\textrm{(OH)}_2\textrm{D}_3$ (0.5ng/$10^{6}$ cells) had a moderate effect on the two kinetic phases of $^{45}\textrm{Ca}$ desaturation curve and these values were normalized when diltiazeme (20nmol/$10^{6}$ cells) was added along with $1.25\textrm{(OH)}_2\textrm{D}_3$. Ionophore($0.05\mu\textrm{g}$/$10^{6}$ cells) alone increased specifically the value of the slow turnover rate which was not affected by addition of diltiazem. The hypothesis concerning the involvement of calcium in bone resorption seems in fact to be verified in case of $1.25\textrm{(OH)}_2\textrm{D}_3$ but more unsettled for Ca inophore A23187.

  • 성견의 2면 골내낭에서 calcium sulfate 이식이 치조골 및 백악질 재생 능력과 접합상피의 근단이동에 미치는 영향에 대해 알아보고자 3마리 성견의 상하악 제3대구치 근심면을 연결하는 깊이 4mm, 너비 4mm의 2면 골내낭을 외과적으로 형성하고 calcium sulfate를 이식한 군을 시험군으로, 치은박리술만을 실시한 군을 대조군으로 설정하였다. 술후 8주후에 치유결과를 접합상피의 길이, 백악질 형성, 치조골 형성, 결합조직 유착으로 나누어 조직학적으로 비교 관찰하여 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 1. 접합상피의 길이는 대조군에서 2.28mm, 실험군에서 0.51mm로 나타났으며, 대조군과 실험군간에 유의성 있는 차이가 있었다(p<0.05). 2. 백악질 형성은 대조군에서 1.33mm, 실험군에서 2.59mm로 나타났으며, 대조군과 실험군간에 유의성 있는 차이가 있었다(p<0.05). 3.치조골 형성은 대조군에서 1.02mm, 실험군에서 2.30mm로 나타났으며, 대조군과 실험군간에 유의성 있는 차이가 있었다(p<0.05). 4. 결합조직 유착은 대조군에서 0.50mm, 실험군에서 1.14mm로 나타났으며, 대조군과 실험군간에 유의성 있는 차이가 있었다(p<0.05). 이상의 결과를 본 실험상의 한계내에서 고려하여 볼 때, calcium sulfate는 2면 골내낭의 치주치료에 치조골 및 백악질 재생 효과가 있으며 안전하고 경제적인 골 이식재 재료로 사용될 수 있으리라 사료된다.

  • As a pilot experiment for developing the monitoring system for oil spill from storage tank, previous approach of monitoring contaminated oil from mixed soil sample had the limitation that it cannot reflect the real situations of the contamination. In this study, more realistic contamination condition and water contents were considered. Fluorescence intensity was not affected by water contents. To acquire the stability of media, sand, Ca-bentonite, alumina, Fe-oxide, bead and silica were tested. Only sand was suitable to our system. These results should provide basic information for constructing reliable monitoring system.

  • Asian dust (Hwangsa) deposited on the surface of the Korean Peninsula is difficult to recognize their existence in mountainous terrain undergoing active erosion and weathering. This study examined Asian dust sediments mixed in soils by analysing clay mineralogy, mineral composition, and microtextures of fine silt (< 20 ㎛) in the alkali feldspar granite area of Seoraksan. The fine silt was composed of detrital particles derived from bedrocks, Asian dust sediments, and their weathering products. Clay minerals of 2:1 structural type, chlorite, amphibole, epidote, and Ca-bearing plagioclase were identified as eolian mineral particles. During the weathering of the bedrock composed of quartz and alkali feldspars, albite was partially weathered to produce small amounts of gibbsite and kaolin minerals. Hydroxy-Al interlayered clay minerals were formed by the exchange and fixation of polynuclear Al cationic species into the interlayers of expandable 2:1 clay minerals dominated by illite-smectite series clay minerals. Contribution of Asian dust to the fine silt of soils was estimated around 70% on the basis of total contents of 2:1 phyllosilicates.

  • This experiment was conducted to study about nutrient absorption of flag leaf and chaff of rice plant different transplanting date with elevations. Heading stage was delayed by destructive cold temperature or late transplanting. Plant analyses revealed that above poor plants also had higher total nitrogen content, but ower silicate in the flag leaf and sterile chaff. Total nitrogen and silica contents to accumulated in flag leaf between yield was significant high correlation. The chaff of late transplanting and sterility was high total nitrogen. Relationship between silicate absorption and total nitrogen of chaff was significant high correlation. Ripening temperature after heading stage was influenced total nitrogen of chaff. Phosphate, potassium, calssium and silicate contents of chaff increased hight ripening temperature but total nitrogen decreased. Therefore, inorganic element contents of chaff was closely connected with grain sterility.

  • Bacteria grow biofilm on various surface such as separation membrane, food packaging film and biomedical device. Growth of biofilm is associated with the formation of a complex structure of exopolysaccharides. Effect of antibacterial effect reduce drastically once the biofilm developed due to the difficulties in mass transport of antimicrobial agent. In order to enhance the antibacterial activity, surface of the membrane is modified, coated or immobilized with functional materials with biocidal properties. One of the idea is to introduce positive charge on the membrane surface by the presence of quaternary ammonium group which might displace divalent metal ion such as magnesium or calcium present in the bacteria cell wall. Efficacy of cell membrane disruption depends on the mobility of the agents available directly on the surface environment. In this review, various biocidal agents like quaternary ammonium group, helamine or zwitter ion containing membrane are discussed.
