An Overall Model for Color Scanner and Printer using EBP (오차역전파 알고리즘을 이용한 칼라 스캐너와 프린터의 통합 모델링)

  • 현대는 빠른 기술의 발달과 제품의 대량 생산에 의한 가격의 인하로 인해 칼라 스캐너, 칼라 모니터와 칼라 프린터 같은 컴퓨터 주변 칼라 장비들이 널리 보급되었다. 뿐만 아니라 이들 장비들의 성능도 날이 갈수록 향상되고 있다. 그러나 이들 장비간의 칼라 재현 기술과 칼라 일치 문제에는 아직도 왜곡 현상이 남아 있어 이를 해결하기 위한 방법이 많이 연구되고 있다. 신경회로망에 의한 방법은 각 칼라 장비들의 특성을 쉽게 모델링 할 수 있을 뿐만 아니라 별도의 참조 테이블을 구성 할 것도 없이 직접 원하는 칼라 값으로의 매핑이 가능하기 때문에 효율적이다. 여기서는 신경회로망의 오차역전파(Error Back Propagation:EBP) 알고리즘을 이용하여 칼라 스캐너와 칼라 프린터의 모델링 구현과 이를 통합한 통합형 모델을 제시하고 나아가 이를 구현하기 위한 방법과 문제점에 대해 알아본다.

Model-Based Color- Image Halftoning Algorithm Using Dot-Pattern Database (도트 패턴 데이터 베이스를 이용한 모델 기반 칼라 영상 중간조 알고리즘)

  • Model-based color image halftoning method using dot-pattern database is proposed for low-resolution color image printing. Dot-pattern database used in the proposed method is based on Blue-Noise Mask. The database consists of dot-patterns constructed by circular dot-overlap model according to each color value. In halftoning procedure, input color value is reproduced as the dot-pattern selected to minimize the difference between the color values of the original image and those of the printed image. Also, the contrast sensitivity function as a human visual model is used to improve the perceived quality of the printed image in dot-pattern selection. Thus, the proposed method can substantially reproduce the color values of the pixels in original image and obtain better image quality. In the experiment, the proposed method has less ΔΕ/Sub ab/ between the original image in monitor and the printed one than that of ED and BNM halftoning. This result approves that the proposed method reproduces better image quality.

  • There are four types of color model to repesent color, which are RGB, IHS, CMY, and YIQ color model. RGB color model is the designation of the digital numbers(DNs) of the three primary colors(red, green, and blue), which are used to produce color images on color monitors. IHS color model is the designation of in-tensity, hue, and saturation(IHS). An advantage of considering color in terms of IHS over that of RGB is arrives more easily at a desired color product mathematically. In this study, authors use the IHS transformation and in-tensity-adjustment method to produce the color map images with Landsat TM and scanned map image. And, authors suggest the problems and their solutions when users produce the desired new images with satellite images and map images.

  • 컬러영상은 흑백 영상에 비해 보기 아름다울 뿐만 아니라 보다 다양하고 현실적인 정보를 나타낼 수 있으며, 특히 색의 대비를 이용하여 특정한 부분의 가시도를 높일 수 있는 장점이 있다. 최근에는 컬러 모니터의 대중화와 말티미디어 기술의 보급으로 인하여 대부분의 컴퓨터 사용자가 칼라 디스플레이를 사용하고 있으며, 이를 이용한 영상의 재현 및 제품 디자인이 자연스러운 영상색의 재현은 정확한 정보 의 전달 뿐만 아니라 사용자의 만족도 및 감성적 제품 개발에 중요한 요인이 되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 색을 가장 자연스러운 상태로 재현할 수 있는 Contrast/Brightness 상태를 알아보고, Contrast/Brightness 변화가 화면에 재현된 영상색에 미치는 영향에 대하여 분석하였다.

  • Color image quantization is a process of selecting a set of colors to display an image with some representative colors without noticeable perceived difference. It is very important in many applications to display a true color image in a low cost color monitor or printer. The basic problem is how to display 256 colors or less colors, called color palette, In this paper, we propose improved binary tree vector quantization based on spatial sensitivity which is one of the human visual properties. We combine the weights based on the responsibility of human visual system according to changes of three Primary colors in blocks of images with the process of splitting nodes using eigenvector in binary tree vector quantization. The test results show that the proposed method generates the quantized images with fine color and performs better than the conventional method in terms of clustering the similar regions. Also the proposed method can get the better result in subjective quality test and WSNR.

  • The Color Management System in recent printers adopts ICC profiles for both monitors and printers. However, the ICC profile doesn't contain the characteristics of reproduced color on each monitor, because the color on each monitor is changed by user adjustment such as color temperature, brightness, and contrast adjustment. It is also depended on the backlight type and lifetime. As a result, unwanted color is reproduced on the printed paper, not like that on the monitor. To overcome the color difference between monitors and printers, it is needed to control the information of ICC profile. That is, first, the ICC profile is generated by the measurement of monitors having user set, then, through the CMS, the color on monitors can be produced on printed paper. However, it is difficult to apply the above system for normal users due to absence of measuring equipment and time consuming process. Therefore, this paper proposes a novel color matching technique based on the estimation of condition for each monitor having user set. The estimation is performed by a simple comparison visual test using a test image on printed paper and monitor. Then, the condition of monitor is applied to the ICC profile. As a result, the new ICC profile contains the color difference between user monitor and printer. The experimental results show the printed images using our proposed method have almost similar color with those on monitors.

Development of the PC Based Color Fish Finder (퍼스널 컴퓨터를 이용한 칼라 어군탐지기의 개발에 관한 연구)

  • This paper describes a personal computer(PC) based color fish finder to improve some problem of the commercial one. The commercial fish finder has no function of the echo data logging and replaying. The authors developed two types of the PC based color fish finder. One is a master type composed of a PC, a digital input-output board, and analog to digital converting (A/D) board and an ultrasonic transceiver unit, the other is a slave type composed of a PC and an A/D board. To test the performances of the master type experiments were carried out in air and in a water tank. It is found that the designed master type fish finder displays very well an eight-colored echogram by one dot resolution to the left side of the PC monitor. Also, the depth of echo signal was corresponds very well to the range from the transducer to a target. The sampling interval of echo signal is about 0.1m and the time of A/D conversion is 30 $\mu$sec. On the other hand, to test the performances of the slave type a raw data of echo signals from a data logger was supplied directly or via RF transceivers to the slave type one. From this experiment, it is confirmed the slave type is useful to replay the echo signal from the data logger or a telesounder.

  • This paper presents a new color correction method for color reproduction on LCD-based monitor by means of high-order multilayer neural networks. LCD monitors have nonlinear characteristics from various displaying system components. To overcome these nonlinearities and produce quality image, we need a nonlinear transformer for color coordinate transformation between the LCD monitor coordinates and the input color stimulus values. A high-order multilayer neural network is effectively trained to learn a mapping to determine the required color value of monitors for producing a given color stimulus. From the experimental results, the proposed method is effective in reproducing the color images.

  • BPA(Black Printer Algorithm)은 잉크젯 프린터에서 사용되는 C(사이안), M(마젠타), Y(옐로우) 잉크에 대한 검정(Black) 잉크의 양을 결정하는 알고리즘이다. CMY 잉크로 인쇄한 이미지의 칼라 품질은 모니터가 재생할 수는 있는 칼라 영역보다 적다. 또한 CMY 잉크를 각각 100% 씩 섞었을 때 이론적으로는 검정 색이 나와야 하나 실제는 검정 색을 정확하게 재현하지 못한다. 그래서 대부분의 프린터는 검정(K) 잉크를 기본으로 제공하며 CMY 잉크로 표현될 회색 영역의 부분을 검정 잉크로 대신 표현해 주기 때문에 프린터의 재현 영역을 확장시킬 수 있다. 또한 검정 잉크의 사용으로 인쇄품질의 색조 대비(contrast)를 증가시킬 수 있고 CMY 잉크를 검정 잉크로 대신 인쇄하기 때문에 CMY 잉크를 절약하는 효과를 얻을 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 본 잉크젯 프린터의 K(black) 잉크와 CMY(cyan, magenta, yellow) 잉크와의 관계를 살펴보았고 이 특성을 이용해 검정 잉크를 조절하는 방법 중에 하나인 3차 다항식의 BPA(Black Printer Algorithm)를 구현하였다. 결과에서는 성능 테스트에 대한 내용과 성능 향상을 위한 방법에 대해 논의하였다.
