Improvement Strategy for Demolition Industry through a Analysis of Domestic Demolition Technique and Situation (국내해체기술 및 현황분석을 통한 해체산업의 발전방향)

  • Currently, one of the most interested things at home and abroad country will be an eco-friendly construction. Among these, one of the most important elements will be the recycle and reuse of construction and demolition waste. Because construction waste is generated the most at the demolition phase, it is important to minimize the quantity of the demolition waste at the phase. And it is also important to develop a system to manage rightly the generated demolition waste. But in the domestic country, a research for this has hardly been carried out. In recent, the government has realized its importance and is making a research to improve demolition technique and is preparing a research to make a raw for deconstruction. Therefore, this study examined its application situation and importance by analyzing the trend of demolition technique used in the domestic industry. Also this study carried out a survey for situation analysis of the demolition industry. This study suggested items needed for the development of demolition technique, demolition design and reduction of C&D waste through a survey results and a situation analysis.

  • 불과 2년 전 한적한 시골 농경지였던 충청남도 서천군 마서면 일대. 푸른 들판과 초록의 나무만 가득했던 이곳이 환경보존의 중요성을 알리는 '생태원'으로 변하고 있다. 무려 99만8,000$m^2$의 사업부지에 생태연구센터, 생태교육센터, 생태체험관, 야외생태체험공간 등이 내년 말 완공을 목표로 한창 조성되고 있는 것. 각 시설 모두가 세간의 큰 관심을 받고 있지만 그중에서도 삼성물산 건설부문이 시공 중에 있는 '국립 생태체험관'은 아직 완공 전임에도 국내를 넘어 세계적으로 유명세를 떨치고 있다. 열대관, 아열대관, 지중해관, 온대관 극지관 등 지구의 5대 생태계를 재현하는 '국립 생태체험관'은 전 세계 각지의 유명 생태관들의 모든 장점에다 국내만의 독창성을 더해 현존 최고 생태체험관의 탄생을 예고하고 있다. 때문에 시공사의 자긍심이 남다른 것은 당연한 일. 최신 친환경 공법을 바탕으로 건물의 가치를 높이는데 혼연의 힘을 다하고 있다. 특히 시공 과정에서 가장 많은 신경을 쓰는 것이 바로 '안전'이다. 후세에 환경보전과 보호의 필요성을 전하는 의미 깊은 장소이니 만큼 안전사고로 그 취지를 얼룩지게 할 수 없다는 것이 이곳 임직원의 각오. 안전으로 역사에 기록될 건축물을 만들고 있는 삼성물산 건설부문의 '국립 생태체험관' 신축현장을 찾아가 봤다.

  • 현대제철이 미래성장동력인 '저탄소 녹색성장'을 실현하기 위한 녹색경영에 앞장서고 있다. 인류사회의 소중한 자원인 철을 재활용해 모든 산업의 기초가 되는 철강제품을 생산해온 현대제철은 1953년 국내 최초의 철강업체로 출범한 이후 줄곧 환경을 최우선으로 하는 경영철학을 실천하며 친환경기업의 위상을 다져왔다. 무엇보다 자연에 버려진 채로 방치될 경우 환경오염을 일으키는 철스크랩을 연간 1,100만 톤이나 재활용해 산업의 쌀이라 불리는 철강제품으로 재탄생시키는 자원재활용업체로 녹색경영을 실천해 왔다. 현대제철은 이러한 녹색경영을 기반으로 지난 2006년 10월부터 종합철강업체로의 새로운 도약을 위해 충남 당진에 일관제철소를 건설했으며 현재 제3고로 건설이 2013년 9월 완공을 목표로 진행되고 있다. 제3고로 완공시 현대제철 일관제철소는 연산 1,200만톤 규모로 확대돼 전기로를 포함한 현대제철의 조강생산 능력은 연산 2,400만톤에 이르게 된다.

Development of Causal Map for Sustainable Transportation Facilities Using System Dynamics (시스템 다이내믹스를 이용한 지속가능한 교통시설 인과지도 개발)

  • The global warming caused by consumption of fossil fuel and energy has been interested. Therefore, several policies and regulations have been discussed to reduce greenhouse gas emission and effective energy consumption. The construction industry that takes 45% of energy consumption makes efforts to develop green construction methods and materials and reuseable energy. However, there is no common definition to calculate greenhouse gas and database in the construction industry. Especially, transportation infrastructure like road, railway, harbor, and airport consumes 21% energy of construction facilities. Therefore, this paper develops the causal relationship to define performance of sustainable road construction and maintenance. The performance indices are grouped into economic, social, and envirionmental impacts. Then, the causal map is developed based on survey results of construction experts. This will provide the baseline to evaluate the performance of sustainable construction and to establish the objective goals.

  • The construction industry has been a major player in Korean economy growth and it has been accountable for more than 15% of GDP during the last decade. However, fast-growing construction industry has also produced some unpleasant side-effects. Environmental problems are identified one of the main issues in the Korean construction industry and they are closely related to minimizing the carbon emission and delivering environmental-friendly green products. The movement of green construction, now, is considered the next driving force for the industry which has significant impacts on the future. This research investigates this green construction while focusing on governmental policy implications such as green certificate for construction products. Green building has long been recognized as the leading green construction product and the green trends have expanded to infrastructure construction such as road construction. Therefore, this research concentrates on various green road certification processes in the United States in order to develop a framework for Korean green road certification. In doing so, some of the green roads application has also been analyzed. This research intends to provide background information for Korean green construction policies, especially on green road certification.

Disposal Process Improvement of Construction Waste through Identifying Factors Obstructing Reduction and Recycle of Construction Wastes (주요 건설폐기물의 재활용 저해요인 도출을 통한 현장 건설폐기물 처리 프로세스 개선 방안)

  • On account of increasing interest of substantiality in these day, it is needed to make an effort to establish an environmentally sustainable production system for the construction works. Although practical affairs and researches are in progress to reduce and recycle construction wastes, as a result of a research, there are still obstructive factors on waste reduction and recycling which they don't interact efficiently between waste disposal process of the construction area and waste disposal company. As a plan to revitalize reduction and recycling of construction wastes, this research focuses on finding obstructive factors and giving solutions to reduce and recycle construction wastes which comes from construction process and construction industries. To meet the needs of the research, firstly relatively significant construction wastes (concrete, soil, brick, block, asphalt, plastic, lumber) were identified. On site level interviews with management of disposal companies and construction sites were conducted as well, focusing on typical waste disposal process. Throughout this interviews, obstructive factors were conducted. A result of the research, the authors suggest an improved approach on disposal and recycling for construction waste by prioritizing the identified factors and ranking the importance level of each factor. And, by identifying factors obstructing reduction and recycle of construction wastes, this research suggests improved disposal process of construction waste.

  • Great efforts have been made worldwide to reduce the Green House Gas (GHG) emission following the "Kyoto Protocol" declared during the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in 1997. Many industries have restructured to meet the standard set by the Protocol. However, no clear guidance has been established for the purpose of reducing the GHG emission in construction industry. In addition, no significant effort has been made to conserve the energy during construction activities. For more effective energy saving in construction industry, it is essential to collect data about energy consumption, quantity of environmental emissions and costs. However, most studies on sustainable construction have been concentrated on the use of equipment, maintenance and repair works during construction due to the difficulties of collecting such data. This study suggests a method to select the most environmentally friendly equipment combination for earthwork with comparing environmental loads and costs using the database of Life Cycle Inventory in the Ministry of Knowledge Economy and Ministry of Environment of Korea.

기술연구II - 초경량골재를 이용한 콘크리트의 건조수축 및 흡수특성에 관한 고찰

  • 최근 고강도화 기술이 발전함에 따라 각국에서는 지역마다 랜드마크로 불리는 건축물들이 자주 등장하는 것을 문헌을 통하여 자주 접한다. 또한 건축물의 거대화 고층화에 따라, 합리적인 설계를 가능하게 하는 콘크리트의 경량화가 새로운 과제로 주목을 받고 있다. 초경량 콘크리트 구조물을 실용화 할 수 있으면 상부구조의 경량화, 지진하중의 저감, 건설기계의 생력화, 기초 부담의 저감 및 기초의 경량화 등에 따라 건설콘스트 에너지 전체의 저감에도 큰 효과가 기대되기 때문이다. 국내에도 경량 골재에 대한 제조가 간헐적으로 계속되어 오고 있다. 특징을 보면 산업부산물을 이용한 친환경소재, 에너지 절감, 흡수율 등을 대폭적으로 낮추었다고 소개되고 있는 반면, 비중을 초경량화한 경우는 거의 없다. 따라서 본 검토는 절건비중이 1.0 미만인 초경량골재를 사용한 경우로 비록 실험실적 결과이지만 쉽게 접할 수 있는 제품이 아닌 것 같아 아소(麻生)공과대학 미즈다(水田)교수의 논문을 소개하는 것이고, 콘크리트 테크노 2009년 1월에 게재된 문헌을 요약 발췌한 것임을 밝혀둔다.

Correlation Analysis on the Duration and CO2 Emission Following the Earth-work Equipment Combination (토공장비조합에 따른 공사기간 및 이산화탄소 배출량의 상관성 분석)

  • After Kyoto Protocol was adopted for green gas reduction, each nations are stepping up efforts to reduce $CO_2$ of a typical green gas. Construction industry also is trying $CO_2$ reduction with the techniques of two types which are software and hardware techniques. The software technique are Passive Design considered green gas emission and the environment impact assessment by LCA. The hardware techniques are adjustment of equipment system and development of eco- friendly material. But, it is nonexistent that a study related to $CO_2$ emission considered detail process in construction industry. This study analyzed the correlation of equipment combination, $CO_2$ emission and duration by calculate $CO_2$ emission follow to equipment combination on earth-work which is the process emitted most $CO_2$ among railway bedding construction.

Development of the Tool for Evaluating Construction Waste Management Performance (건설현장의 폐기물 관리행위 평가 툴 개발 : 1단계 -폐기물 관리행위 요인 및 평가 툴 개념 구축)

  • Although waste management in construction industry has a significant impact on both economical and environmental issues, the current level of waste management performance in Korean construction is reported as relatively low. To improve any type of management performance, it is necessary to diagnose the current status of the performance level. In this context, this research is aimed to identify important factors in influencing the waste management performance and to develop an evaluation tool for the purpose of assessing the level of the performance for a particular construction site. In this paper, 59 influential factors have been identified and categorized into five classes, i.e., manpower, material, method, management, and policy, in terms of the characteristics of the factors. In addition, an evaluation tool has been developed in order to effectively quantify all the 59 factors based on a thorough industry survey. The output of the Tool, which is Waste Management Index, effectively assess the level of waste management performance for a particular project and provide with the most leveraged factors in need for improvement in waste management performance.
