In this study, a dementia patient care monitoring system is suggested that uses a wearable type bluetooth beacon to prevent them from going missing. This system shows whether the patients stay within the manageable area and sends a warning message to their monitoring managers' or guardians' smart devices when they leave it. The feature of the system is that it provides the service based on indoor location that makes the beacon worn by dementia patients continuously transmit their location information to the managing server through the smart terminal installed indoors or in hospitals and that enables the monitoring managers or the guardians to receive messages sent from the server that tell the patients' whereabouts through their smart devices. The system suggested in this paper is believed to be a system that effectively contributes to the prevention of the dementia patients' going astray from the hospitals and facilities where they are taking care.
The purpose of this study is to provide a basic data for reducing care-giving stress of family members of the elderly with mild dementia by determining the relationship between the behavioral and psychological symptoms of the elderly with dementia and their family members' care-giving stress and self-efficacy. The descriptive statistics, t-test, and ANOVA were used for analysis in order to investigate the relationship. The behavioral and psychological symptoms of the elderly with mild dementia and their family members' care-giving stress had a positive correlation (r=.655, p<.001), and as their family members' care-giving stress and the members' self-efficacy had a negative correlation (r=-.334, p<.001). Based on the result of this study, it is necessary to reduce the care-giving stress of family members of the elderly with mild dementia and improve the self-efficacy of family members by developing proper measures to cope with the behavioral and psychological symptoms of the elderly with mild dementia.

Objective : The purpose of this study is to confirm the basis for the effectiveness of sleep intervention for dementia progression. Method : PsycINFO, CINAHL, MEDLINE, PubMed, Science Direct, PEDro, Cochrane library was used to search for published papers from 2000 to 2017 using dementia, sleep, and randomized controlled trials (RCTs). Based on the results, author analyzed the papers that met the selection criteria. Result : Finally, five papers were selected. Among them, there were four papers showing that the effectiveness of the sleep intervention was not proven to be one. Conclusion : The results of this study can provide a basis for the sleep intervention effect of dementia patients. A program to actively intervene to prevent patients' behavior control and disease progression through solving sleep problems of dementia patients is needed.
The purpose of this study was to develop a group validation therapy(V/T) which could be implemented for the elderly with dementia in nursing home, and to evaluate the effectiveness of the program on cognition, ADL(Activity of Daily Living), depression, problematic behavior and QOL(Quality of Life). Subjects were recruited from 4 nursing homes in D city. The sample comprised forty elderly with dementia, capable of verbal communication. Each twenty were in an experimental and control groups. However, four elders with dementia dropped out in experimental and control groups due to personal affairs. Experimental group completed twelve consecutive group validation therapy sessions that combined centering, asking factual questions, rephrasing, identifying and using the preferred sense, asking the extreme, imagining the opposite, reminiscing, touching, maintaining eye contact and a caring tone of voice, observing, matching and expressing the emotion with emotion, using ambiguity, linking behavior with a basic human need, using music and mirroring techniques. Following the intervention, experimental group experienced a significant improvement in cognition, ADL, depression, and QOL. But it is a nonsignificant in problematic behavior on statistically. As a result, a group validation therapy should be applied as an effective and practical psychosocial intervention for the elderly with dementia.

This study was conducted to identify the level of knowledge, attitude, and educational needs toward dementia, as well as to understand factors influencing educational needs for dementia among nursing students. A total of 213 nursing students at three universities in C province were invited to this study from September to November in 2015. Collected data were analyzed using an independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Scheffe's test, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regression. All analyses were conducted with SPSS 20.0 for Windows. The level of knowledge, attitude and educational needs for dementia were $12.33{\pm}4.54$ out of 20, $35.53{\pm}8.92$ out of 50 (Item mean 3.56), and $116.46{\pm}32.06$ out of 160 (Item mean 3.63), respectively. There were significant positive correlations between attitude and educational needs (r=0.79, p=<0.01). Moreover, the factors influencing educational needs for dementia in nursing students were attitude (${\beta}=0.73$, p<0.001) and grade (${\beta}=0.19$, p=0.001). Development of diverse educational programs for dementia based on this study can be a cornerstone to improve knowledge and attitudes toward dementia in nursing students. Developing nursing curriculum considering students' attitudes toward dementia and grade may also help increase knowledge of dementia.
Anumber of prior studies have reported eye movement dysfunction in patients with dementia. The eye movement test which is non-invasive can evaluate the local brain function quantitatively. Therefore, it can be a useful method for characterizing regional brain abnormalities of patients with dementia. The aim of this paper is to review the literatures on eye movement abnormalities in dementia patients. Saccade system dysfunctions in Alzheimer disease include increased latency, reduced accuracy, and increased antisaccade error rates. Patients with frontotemporal dementia showed impaired reflexive saccade inhibition and increased latency and errors of antisaccade task. And delayed initiation of voluntary saccades, slow saccades, and increased errors and latency on antisaccade task were found in Huntington's disease. Patients with Parkinson’s disease dementia and dementia with Lewy bodies have characteristics of impaired in both reflexive saccade execution and complex saccade performance. However, there were few reports of abnormal eye movements in Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease; they could be found at the later stages after symptoms of dementia came to be evident, and secondary to cerebellar and vestibular involvement. Slowing of saccades and hypometric saccades might precede the supranuclear limitation of vertical gaze in PSP. Dysfunction of voluntary eyelid movements was a characteristic finding of PSP as well. In conclusion, patients with dementia can show various abnormal eye movements and they are related with cortial and subcortical brain dysfunctions. The research on localization of brain relevant to each symptom can promise more clinical implications of eye movement of dementia.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the factors that affect the social distance between the demented elderly and nursing college students. In this study, responses from 158 nursing college students in city D were collected using structured questionnaires and analyzed. As a result, the correlation between variables, social distance, and dementia attitude towards the demented elderly (r = .53, p<.001) showed a statistically correlated relationship, while ageism (r = -.41, p<.001) showed a negative correlation. The results of this study are as follows: first, the interactions between the elderly with dementia and the nursing college students were more frequent (${\beta}=.29$ p=.012), and second, attention to early prevention of dementia (${\beta}=.32$ p=.002) was significant. The explanatory power of these influential factors on the social distance toward the demented elderly was 41.0%.
Along with the aging of the population, the number of dementia patients is increasing, and the social and economic burden is also increasing. Currently, the effective way to manage dementia patients is to identify patients with dementia early. However, in rural and island areas where medical staff are scarce, there is a problem that it is difficult to visit a hospital and get an early examination. Therefore, we propose a remote early detection system for dementia to solve the problems. The remote dementia early diagnosis system is a system that allows a patient to receive examination and treatment from a remote dementia expert using remote medical technology based on real-time image communication. The remote early diagnosis system for dementia consists of a local client system used by medical staff at health centers in the island, an image server that transmits, stores and manages images, and an expert client used by remote dementia experts. The local client subsystem satisfies the current medical law's remote collaboration by allowing the patient to use it with the health center's medical staff. In addition, expert clients are used by dementia experts, and can store/manage patient information, analyze patient history information, and predict the degree of dementia progression in the future.
