Research on the Actual Condition of the radiation Safety Management(RSM) for the Educated Training of the Dental Diagnostics X-ray Generators (교육용 치과 엑스선 발생장치에 대한 방사선 안전 관리 실태 조사)

  • The purpose of this study is to offer data base for establishment of dental training x-ray generator based safety usage through surveying real radiation safety management state of radiation worker's in plan of operations that have dental training x-ray generators and use it. For it, comprehensive references were surveyed referring reports of current state of regulation technique development and domestic radiation safety evaluation and nuclear related legislation regarding radiation safety management of dental training x-ray generators. On the basis of it, questionnaires were filled in about respondent's general characteristic radiation safety manager's status current state of radiation safety management and the level of knowledge & consciousness. For the study, the survey was conducted to 224 people of radiation safety managers and university graduates training assistants and full-time professors who can treat dental training x-ray generators in education center. through this survey 95 questionnaires were used as analysis materials except the insufficient and omitted responses. As a method of analysis, the frequency and percentage were figured out with the general characteristics and safety manager's status. Chi-square test for frequency and correlation per question analysis and Pearson correlation analysis for crosslevel correlation were done with current state of radiation safety management and knowledge & consciousness level. As a result, running dental training x-ray generators was dealt with by 20's to 40's who have high education level over post undergraduate degree and major in dental hygienic. In addition, female have higher consciousness level for radiation safety management than male. A comparative study of educators vs, non-educators designed to improve dental radiographic quality control - Focusing on theories of dental radiographic and practical training and clinical practice education - (치과방사선 질관리 향상을 위한 교육자 대비 비교육자 비교연구 - 치과방사선학 이론 및 실습교육과 임상실습교육을 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the knowledge of dental hygiene students of the quality assurance of dental radiation such quality assurance and related educational experiences in an effort to accelerate the preparation of a curriculum for systematic quality-assurance. The subjects in this study were 453 dental hygiene students who participated in dental radiography courses. Varied statistical analyses such as frequency analyses, reliability, chi-square, and independent samples t-tests were conducted on the data collected, using SPSS 12.0. Scheffe test was also used after one-way ANOVA as post-hoc tests. Results showed that (a) the students' acknowledge level of Radiographic Quality Assurance was $7.71{\pm}1.7$ out of 12 on average. The more theory and practical classes students took, the higher points they got (p<0.001); (b) Most of the students experienced 1-3 lessons out of 13 in practical training and 26.3% of students did not take any practical lesson. ;(c)Students who did not take any practical training got 7.20 points out of 13, students who took 1-3 lessons got 7.84 points out of 13, students who took 4-5 lessons got 7.87 points out of 13, and students who took more than 6 lessons got 8.14 points out of 13 on average. The more practical classes they took the higher acknowledge level they were. Therefore it needs to provide adequate practical lessons to them.

  • 근관치료 후 성패는 근관치료 직후의 방사선 사진에서 보이는 근관충전의 양상으로 판단 될 수 없다. 근관치료의 성공을 위해서는 근관치료 직후의 방사선 소견과 주기적인 환자의 관찰을 통한 방사선 소견을 비교 평가하여 치근단 병소의 소실과 더불어 불편한 임상증상이 소실되었을 때 비로소 근관치료의 성공이라고 볼 수 있다.

Radiation Protective Effect of the Thyroid Gland Using Bolus Protector in the Dental Cone Beam Computed Tomography (치과 콘빔 전산화단층검사 시 보루스 차폐체를 이용한 갑상선의 방사선 차폐효과)

  • In order to minimize the radiation exposure dose of the thyroid site at dental cone-beam computer tomography, a protector using a Bolus was prepared, and the radiation shielding effect and the appropriateness of the image were evaluated. Using a dental cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT), a glass dosimeter was attached to the left and right sides of the thyroid for a dental radiation phantom, and the radiation dose was measured. The absorbed dose for each shield was measured by another method to 10 mm, 20 mm, and 30 mm-thickness, respectively. Eight evaluators evaluated whether or not the medical image is appropriate. When using a 30 mm Bolus shield at the left thyroid site, the resulting value is reduced by an average of $342.67{\mu}Gy$ by 20.7% from the average value of $431.22{\mu}Gy$ measured without using a Bolus shield, the right thyroid site In the case of using 30 mm Bolus shield, it showed a dose reduction effect of 21.9% with an average of $424.56{\mu}Gy$. The adequacy of the medical image was judged to be usable by both evaluators. In conclusion, the dental cone-beam computerized tomography can be used as a useful shielding material because it has a radiation shielding effect and it is possible to treat the diagnosis of the bolus protector in the thyroid without any obstruction shade in order to minimize the radiation dose.

Correlation between Dental and Skeletal Maturity in Korean Children (한국 어린이의 골 성숙도와 치아 석회화 단계 간의 상관관계)

  • The aim of this study was to investigate the relationships between the stages of calcification of various teeth and skeletal maturity stages among Korean subjects. The samples were derived from hand-wrist, panoramic radiographs, and lateral cephalograms of 743 subjects (359 males and 384 females) with ages ranging from 6 to 14 years. Calcification of seven permanent mandibular teeth on the left side were rated according to the system of Demirjian. To evaluate the stage of skeletal maturation, hand-wrist radiographs were analyzed by skeletal maturity indicators (SMI) system of Fishman and lateral cephalograms by cervical vertebral maturation (CVM) method of Baccetti. Statistically significant relationships were found between dental calcification and skeletal maturity stages according to Spearman rank-order correlation coefficients (r = 0.40-0.84, p < 0.001). The second molar showed the highest correlation and central incisor showed the lowest correlation for female and male subjects. For both sexes, canine stage G and second molar stage F were related to SMI 6 and CS 3. Because of the high correlation coefficients, this study suggests that tooth calcification stages from panoramic radiographs might be clinically useful as a maturity indicator of the pubertal growth period in Korean patients.

  • This study aims to develop digital techniques that enable repeated practice of dental radiography using augmented reality technology. A three-dimensional object was fabricated by superimposing a photograph of an adult model and a computed tomography image of a manikin phantom. The system was structured using 106 radiographs such that one of these saved radiographs is opened when the user attempts to take a radiograph on a mobile device. This system enabled users to repeatedly practice at the pre-clinical stage without exposure to radiation. We attempt to contribute to enhancing dental hygienists' competency in dental radiography using these techniques. However, a system that enables the user to actually take a radiograph based on face recognition would be more useful in terms of practice, so additional studies are needed on the topic.
