  • The word 'aesthetic', one of three functions of the teeth - mastication, pronunciation, and aesthetic - does not simply mean beauty. Aesthetic missing harmony cannot be called aesthetic. It is true aesthetic when the harmony with surrounding teeth and environment such as lips, midline, and facial form is achieved. In order to produce a harmonious prosthesis, sufficient information must be passed on to a technician, and also the technician should request necessary information to the dental office. Good food cannot be made without fresh ingredients. Although fresh ingredients are supplied, delicious food is also not possible without a chef's cooking skills. The first-class dish is made only under the circumstances that a skilled chef can do his best with fresh ingredients. In this study, the teamwork to be shared between dental practitioners and technicians for harmonious aesthetic prosthesis is discussed.

There were significant differences among subjects in the normal complaints rate for continuance of sputum or congestion by work days per week and required measures for improvement in pain. 4. There were significant differences among subjects in the normal complaints rates for blocked nose and coryza by sex, age, work days per week and average length of breaking time during working (P<0.05). 5. There were significant differences among subjects in the normal complaints rates for shortness of breath by sex, exercise frequency, average length of exercise, main job. 6. There was significant difference among subjects in the experience rate due to symptom of pulmonary disease only by main job.(P<0.05).

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to discover the recognition of dental technicians on MSDS and to research the furnishing rate of Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) in dental laboratories. Method: 104 dental technicians who were self-written questionnaire. The results were analyzed by SPSS 12.0. The answers to the questionnaire underwent frequency analysis, chi-square test were performed. Results: The result of cross analysis on the occurrence of occupational diseases according to whether MSDS is furnished showed that the group with MSDS furnished had 37.8% of damages due to their occupation, but the group with MSDS unfurnished had 65.7% of damages due to their occupation, which displayed a significant difference(p<0.05). The result of cross analysis on whether the education about chemicals according to whether MSDS is furnished showed there were relatively more responses of no education on the types and characteristics of chemicals, the effect on human body and its risk, emergency measure when exposed to risk, the treating and storing methods and the disposal methods. In addition, there were significant differences on whether all the above education was done between the group with MSDS furnished and the group without MSDS(p<0.000). Conclusion: In order to secure safe working environment of dental technicians and to reduce occurrence of damage caused by chemicals, the related education is necessary. The recognition of dental technicians on MSDS and furnishing rate is increasing but still insufficient, so the related organizations need to establish education and PR measures for prevention of damage.

  • One of the most critical causes in determining the clinical outcomes of dental prostheses is the validity of models. However, studies that evaluated validity of digital models are few. The objectives of this study were to evaluate validity of edentulous digital models for full denture fabrication. Twenty stone models (edentulous model) were manufactured and scanned by dental blue light emitting diode scanner. Twenty digital models were manufactured. Six linear distances (inter-canine distance, inter-molar distance, two dental arch lengths (right, left), two diagonal of dental arch lengths (right, left) were measured for validity evaluation. The measurements of distances of stone models were used by digital vernier caliper and digital models were used by computer program. The mean${\pm}$deviations values of six distances were calculated. The means were compared by the Mann Whitney U test (${\alpha}=0.05$). All statistical analysis were performed using IBM SPSS Statistics ver. 20.0. Although digital models were smaller than stone models in six distances, there were no significant differences (p>0.05) and non exceeded the clinical acceptable range. The edentulous digital models for full denture fabrication can be considered clinically acceptable.

The subjects of the survey were 141 dental technicians working in 30 dental technical laboratories and corresponding companies in Daejeon area. A structured self-entry type questionnaire survey was implemented by measuring the work environment from December 20, 2011 to January 31, 2012 at the same time. The total score of health index showed a significant difference according to the working hours and smoking state as the a factor of the individual level, the physical health index showed a significant difference according to the smoking state and the exercise habits as the factor of the individual level. The mental health index showed a significant difference according to the working hours and smoking state as the factor of the individual level. The significant variable did not appear in the predictor of the group level. In conclusion, the quality of life of dental technicians in relation to health appeared to have a larger effect on the factor of the individual level than the factor of the group level.

  • This study aims to present a fundamental data base to figure out the mental and the physical conditions that the dental technicians are facing and ultimately to develop a health care program to deal with their health related problems. To this end, we took an analysis on the health status among the subjects of 895 dental technicians currently working at the dental lab around the nation from January 15 to March 31, 2009 by way or Todai Health Index(THI). Of the average scale point in accordance with 12 scale scores of the physical and the mental subjective symptom, the results revealed that the physical appeals (21.10) were higher than the mental appeals (18.49) and the multiple subjective symptom was marked as 38.44 followed by the mental irritability (25.92). In gender differences, the females proved to be higher than the males in both physical appeals and mental appeals while the physical appeals were dominant in both genders. The physical appeals were higher than the mental appeals with regard to the general characteristics. In the case or the group or age twenties as shown in the physical and mental average scale point, the other groups showed 21.55% of the physical appeals among the married whereas the mental appeals showed the highest point as 18.70 in the unmarried group. In job position, the other groups marked the highest, in working condition, below average group marked the highest, in frequency of break time, none group marked the highest. We drew a conclusion form this study that the dental technicians gained the higher points in the item or the multiple subjective symptom, the menial irritability, and the irregular life. More research on th is phenomena should be followed along with the development of various and practical health care programs to promote the health or dental technicians.
