  • The development of information and communication technology has been carried out actively in the field of agriculture to generate valuable information from large amounts of data and apply big data technology to utilize it. Crops and their varieties are determined by the influence of the natural environment such as temperature, precipitation, and sunshine hours. This paper derives the climatic factors affecting the production of crops using the garlic growth process and daily meteorological variables. A prediction model was also developed for the production of garlic per unit area. A big data analysis technique considering the growth stage of garlic was used. In the exploratory data analysis process, various agricultural production data, such as the production volume, wholesale market load, and growth data were provided from the National Statistical Office, the Rural Development Administration, and Korea Rural Economic Institute. Various meteorological data, such as AWS, ASOS, and special status data, were collected and utilized from the Korea Meteorological Agency. The correlation analysis process was designed by comparing the prediction power of the models and fitness of models derived from the variable selection, candidate model derivation, model diagnosis, and scenario prediction. Numerous weather factor variables were selected as descriptive variables by factor analysis to reduce the dimensions. Using this method, it was possible to effectively control the multicollinearity and low degree of freedom that can occur in regression analysis and improve the fitness and predictive power of regression analysis.

  • We are constantly hearing about the seriousness of food shortages in North Korea through various media reports. Recently, the severity of the problem has increased, and international organizations and relief organizations have become increasingly concerned. Due to the shortage of food and firewood, residents illegally cut trees in the mountains and, as a result, North Korea has become the third fastest-growing area of forest degradation in Asia. However, since North Korea cannot directly measure the extent of forest degradation, remote sensing techniques using satellite imagery have to be applied. The purpose of this study was to analyze the characteristics of forest change in North Korea, in order to understand the severity of the forest degradation problem. For this purpose, Landsat 5 TM and Landsat 8 OLI TIRS satellite images were acquired and classified. As a result, it was found that the forests have turned into wilderness in the Nampo City and Pyongyang municipalities, while the wasteland has changed into forests in the north of Yanggangdo. In addition, the total forested area of the whole region decreased by $4,166.22km^2$, the residential area decreased by $2,017.03km^2$, and the amount of agricultural land increased by $6,625.74km^2$, which is similar to the amount of forested area lost, although the difference in the overall area of the forests between 2017 and 2006 was small.

  • Owing to the complexity and modernization of weapon systems, the role of the defense industry in producing military companies has become increasingly important. In the past defense industries, price competitiveness is a key factor in product choice. On the other hand, product quality is becoming increasingly important compared to price competitiveness. In particular, improving the quality efficiency of small and medium defense suppliers is a necessary part of realizing completed weapon systems, and measures are required to evaluate the quality efficiency of small and medium defense suppliers objectively. This study measured the efficiency of quality using DEA, which is one of the decision methodologies. To use DEA, the number of employees (QA Team) and the number of improvement requirements (Through the activity of onsite quality-support team in aeronautical system center) were set as the input variables. In addition, the output variables were based on sales and the number of certification acquisitions (QMS). To analyze the quality efficiency of small and medium defense suppliers in the aeronautical field, both CCR and BCC models were analyzed, and the scale efficiency values were derived. Strategic development plans for small and medium defense suppliers can be guided using the research results.

  • In this paper, we studied the brain-computer interface (BCI). BCIs help severely disabled people to control external devices by analyzing their brain signals evoked from motor imageries. The findings in the field of neurophysiology revealed that the power of $\beta$(14-26 Hz) and $\mu$(8-12 Hz) rhythms decreases or increases in synchrony of the underlying neuronal populations in the sensorymotor cortex when people imagine the movement of their body parts. These are called Event-Related Desynchronization / Synchronization (ERD/ERS), respectively. We implemented a BCI-based mouse interface system which enabled subjects to control a computer mouse cursor into four different directions (e.g., up, down, left, and right) by analyzing brain signal patterns online. Tongue, foot, left-hand, and right-hand motor imageries were utilized to stimulate a human brain. We used a non-invasive EEG which records brain's spontaneous electrical activity over a short period of time by placing electrodes on the scalp. Because of the nature of the EEG signals, i.e., low amplitude and vulnerability to artifacts and noise, it is hard to analyze and classify brain signals measured by EEG directly. In order to overcome these obstacles, we applied statistical machine-learning techniques. We could achieve high performance in the classification of four motor imageries by employing Common Spatial Pattern (CSP) and Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA) which transformed input EEG signals into a new coordinate system making the variances among different motor imagery signals maximized for easy classification. From the inspection of the topographies of the results, we could also confirm ERD/ERS appeared at different brain areas for different motor imageries showing the correspondence with the anatomical and neurophysiological knowledge.

  • This paper presents reconfigurable beam steering patch antenna with high gain for a wireless headset. Because existing antenna for wireless communication in headsets has an omni-directional radiation pattern, it has a deleterious effect in the vicinity of the human head. To reduce this effect, this paper proposed an antenna comprised of a U-slot and manufactured on a FR-4 substrate. The antenna operating at the 2.37-2.5 GHz band used a tapered matching method to match the impedance between the feed part and patch part. To implement the beam steering capability, the antenna used two PIN diodes. Using PIN diodes, the antenna presented three states ($S_0$, $S_1$ and $S_2$) in the maximum beam directions of the YZ-plane ($0^{\circ}$, $30^{\circ}$ and $330^{\circ}$, respectively). The peak gains of the antenna in the headset were 4.22-5.15 dBi. The fabricated antenna could communicate efficiently with a wireless headset.

  • Due to the convenience, RMR has been widely applied in civil engineering works such as tunnel, slope, and so on. Many researchers have studied to suggest more simple and trustable RMR by modifying its parameters. However, those researches have just focused on looking for easy modified-RMRs by reducing number of parameters using various statistical analyses. Therefore, this research studied questions of modified-RMRs and gaps between RMR and its parameters. Approximately 2,000 parameters of 400 RMRs from various tunnel sites were normalized respectively and compared with one another to study their relations and divergences. The comparison results showed that there were common patterns among RMR and parameters. Data of uniaxial compressive strength and RQD, qualitative parameters, were located in upper side of RMR line. Discontinuity condition and ground water, quantitative oriented parameters, were opposite to them. It means if both qualitative and quantitative parameters can be properly combined then it can be easy to make simple and easy modified-RMRs without using difficult statistics. This results also show that the majority of field engineers used to estimate RMR conservatively when they did quantitative oriented parameters.

  • Tunnels are widely used for special purposes including roads, railways and culvert for power transmission, etc. Its cross-section shape is determined by uses, ground condition, environmental or economic factor. Many papers with respect to behaviours of adjacent ground and existing structure tunnelling-induced have been published by many researchers, but tunnel cross-section have rarely been considered. A collapse of tunnel causes vaster human and property damage than structures on the ground. Thus, it is very important to understand and analyse the relationship between behavoiurs of ground and cross-section type of tunnel. In this study, the behaviour of ground due to tunnel excavation for underground station below the grouped pile supported existing structure was analysed through laboratory model test using a trap-door device. Not only two cross-section types, 2-arch and box, as station for tunnel, but also, offset between tunnel and grouped pile centre (0.1B, 0.25B, 0.4B) are considered as variable of this study. In order to measure underground deformation tunnelling-induced, Close Range Photogrammetry technique was applied with laboratory model test, and results are compared to numerical analysis.

  • Finger printing and sequence alignment are well-known approaches for document similarity comparison. A fingerprinting method is simple and fast, but it can not find particular similar regions. A string alignment method is used for identifying regions of similarity by arranging the sequences of a string. It has an advantage of finding particular similar regions, but it also has a disadvantage of taking more computing time. The Multi-Level Alignment (MLA) is a new method designed for taking the advantages of both methods. The MLA divides input documents into uniform length blocks, and then extracts fingerprints from each block and calculates similarity of block pairs by comparing the fingerprints. A similarity table is created in this process. Finally, sequence alignment is used for specifying longest similar regions in the similarity table. The MLA allows users to change block's size to control proportion of the fingerprint algorithm and the sequence alignment. As a document is divided into several blocks, similar regions are also fragmented into two or more blocks. To solve this fragmentation problem, we proposed a united block method. Experimentally, we show that computing document's similarity with the united block is more accurate than the original MLA method, with minor time loss.

  • Psychological research on the relationships between creativity and knowledge can be divided into two main streams, called tension view and foundation view. However most of the studies in this area have been too much focused on creative products which had a limit in investigating creative processes. In this study, to identify the relationships, we employed neuro-scientific approaches to investigating EEG (electroencephalogram) activity from professional computer programmers(n=10). Also the EEG alpha TRP (task related power) was compared with each other. The procedures including resting conditions with eye closed were followed by ordinary thinking process, creative thinking processes in a professional domain and a nonprofessional domain. As a result of EEG activity analysis, alpha deactivation was observed mainly in temporal lobe, especially in left-temporal lobe during creative thinking process of professional domain. The findings suggest that neuro-scientific approach supports the tension view, suggesting that the knowledge could hinder creativity.
