Dispersity of CNT and GNF on the Polyurethane Matrix: Effect of Polyurethane Chemical Structure (폴리우레탄 분자구조 변화에 따른 CNT와 GNF의 분산특성 연구)

  • The aim of this study is to understand the effect of structure on the dispersion of both CNT and GNF in the phase of synthesized polyurethanes matrix. Various CNT/PU and GNF/PU composite films were prepared. Polyurethane having a different hard segment was blended with both CNT and GNF. PU having HDI as hard segment showed good dispersion with both CNT and GNF because of their linear structural character and molecular kinesis while PU having aromatic ring showed poor dispersion with those due to their structural complexity. Structural effect also induced the increase of its electro conductivity. The PU/CNT composite showed a bad dispersion (because of phase separation between PU matrix and CNT) but good electro conductivity at its surface (because CNT was collected on the surface of composite film due to low density of CNT). PU/CNT and PU/GNF composite films have quite low normalized sheet resistance value compared with silver/PU nanocomposite film because the fiber type filler could have much more contact points than that of sphere shaped silver particles have.

Storage Quality of Ready-to-Eat Campbell Table Grapes as Affected by Active Modified Atmosphere Packaging (기체충진 포장조건에 따른 신선편이 캠벨 포도의 저장 중 품질변화)

  • The storage quality of ready-to-eat Campbell table grapes which were packaged under modified atmospheres was investigated in order to examine the effect of high $O_2$ and $CO_2$ on the fruit. Fresh table grapes with 10-15 berries were packed into polypropylene (PP) trays and were top-sealed with polythylene terephthalate/PP film. The initial gas compositions inside the packages were air, 20% $O_2$/10% $CO_2$/70% $N_2$, and 40% $O_2$/60% $N_2$. Sealed packages with low density polyethylene film bags and perforated PP trays were also used as a further treatment and control, respectively. The quality attributes were assessed during storage at $5^{\circ}C$ for 28 days. Fruit packaged in high $CO_2$ concentration showed the lowest viable cell counts of inherent microorganisms among all samples, although they suffered from severe off-flavors. High levels of $O_2$ significantly lowered flesh weight loss and maintained the flavor of grape. In an overall sensory aspect, the high $O_2$ and $CO_2$ packages exhibited greater scores than the air and control at the end of the storage period. Other quality attributes showed no significant differences among treatments. Results suggest that packaging with an appropriate combination of high $O_2$ and $CO_2$ can be used as an effective processing treatment for improvement of the storability of ready-to-eat table grapes.

코로나 방전을 이용한 하이브리드 사이클론 집진 장치 특성 연구

  • 산업화가 발달됨에 따라 대기 오염 물질은 점차 증가하고 있는 추세에 있고 특히 기름 및 석탄 연소 보일러, 자동차, 제철, 시멘트 플렌트, 소각로 등은 미세 분진을 발생시키는 주원인이 되어 왔다. 최근 대기환경법은 오염 분진의 중량 규제로부터 $10{\mu}m$ 미만의 PM10에서 $2.5{\mu}m$ 미만의 PM2.5의 미세 분진에 대한 규제로 점차 심화되고 있으나, 이러한 미세분진은 고전적인 제거 방법으로는 매우 어려우며 고가의 HEPA 필터를 사용하여야 한다. 한편 코로나 방전을 이용하는 전기 집진은 미세 먼지 제거에 매우 효율적이어서 $1{\mu}m$ 미만의 미세 분지도 99%까지 제거가 가능하다는 장점이 있지만 입자크기가 클 경우에는 효율이 떨어지는 단점이 있다. 한편 사이클론 집진기는 매우 오래전부터 개발되어 사용되어 왔는데 가격이 저렴하고 운영비가 적게 들며 $10{\mu}m$ 이상의 먼지는 99% 이상 제거가 가능하여 산업현장에서 오랜 기간 사용되어 왔지만 입자크기가 $10{\mu}m$ 미만으로 가면 집진율이 급격히 떨어지는 단점을 가지고 있다. 본 연구에서는 기존의 사이클론 집진기의 구조를 기본으로하여 사이클론 집진기 내부에 플라즈마 방전을 설치하여 원심력에 의한 집진과 코로나 방전에 의한 전기 집진을 동시에 수행할 수 있도록 하이브리드 사이클론 집진기를 제작하였다. 제작된 사이클론 집진기는 직경 30 cm 높이 120 cm의 사이클론 구조를 가지고 있으며 1 hp의 터보송풍기를 장착하여 $20m^3$/min 이상의 유량을 처리할 수 있도록 설계 제작되었다. 제작된 하이브리드 사이클론 집진기의 성능을 평가하기 위하여 $10m^3$의 체적을 가지는 테스트 챔버 내부에 사이클론 집진기를 설치하고 향을 태워 미세 먼지를 발생시킨 후 다양한 조건에서 집진 성능을 측정하여 보았다. 미세 먼지의 경우 사이클론을 작동시키지 않아도 테스트 챔버 벽면에 흡착되어 초기에는 급격히 감소하는 경향을 보여주나 일정 시간이 경과한 후에는 매우 느리게 감소하는 현상이 관찰 되었다. 코로나 방전을 하지 않고 오존 파괴기에 활성탄만 충진한 상태에서 사이크론을 작동시킬 경우 지속적으로 천천히 감소하는 경향을 보여주었으며, 코로나 플라즈마를 방전시킨 경우 미세 먼지는 HEPA filter를 장착한 것보다도 조금 빠르게 미세먼지를 제거하였다. 챔버 내부의 미세먼지가 초기 값의 1/10에 도달하는 시간은 코로나 방전 전류가 증가할수록 짧아지는 경향을 보여주었으며 최적 조건에서 100초 이내에 90% 이상 제거가 가능하였다. 하이브리드 사이클론 집진기는 집진 뿐 만 아리라 VOC 성분도 분해가 가능하여 유해물질을 제거하는 능력이 있다. 유해 가스 제거 능력을 실험하기 위하여 분진제거 실험에 사용된 챔버 안에 아세톤을 증발시켜 50 ppm이 되도록 한 후 다양한 조건에서 유해물질 제거 실험을 수행하였다. 미세먼지와는 달리 장비를 작동하지 않을 경우 매우 느리게 아세톤 농도가 감소하였다. 이는 미세 먼지와는 달리 흡착이 발생하지 않고, 측정 챔버 자체가 완전한 밀폐가 이루어지지 않아 자연적으로 조금씩 외부로 누출되기 때문으로 판단된다. 코로나 플라즈마만 방전시켰을 경우 초기 농도의 80%가 제거되는데 걸리는 시간은 약 28분 정도로 코로나 플라즈마가 VOC 제거에 효과가 있음은 확인하였으나 제거율이 그리 높지 않음을 알 수 있었다. 한편 오존 파괴를 위해 활성탄으로 충진 된 오존파괴기를 통과시킨 경우는 약 12분 경과 후 80%가 제거됨을 확인할 수 있었으나 그 이후에는 VOC의 감소가 매우 느리게 진행됨을 알 수 있었다. 한편 활성탄 대신 $MnO_2$ 복합촉매로 충진 된 오존파괴기를 통과한 경우 약 3분 정도 경과 후 80%의 아세톤이 제거됨을 관찰할 수 있었으며 코로나 플라즈마를 작동시키면서 $MnO_2$ 복합촉매로 충진 된 오존파괴기를 통과시킨 경우 약 2분 정도 경과 80% 이상의 아세톤이 제거되어 코로나 플라즈마와 복합촉매를 사용할 경우 VOC 성분이 효과적으로 제거됨을 알 수 있었다.

Spatio-temporal Changes of Urban Sprawl Process in Seoul Metropolitan Area : Spatial Structure-based Approach (수도권 스프롤 양상의 시공간적 변화 : 공간구조 기반 접근)

  • In small countries such as Korea, rapid expansion of cities has been pointed out as the main cause of urban and environmental issues. In order to understand the urban problems caused by urban sprawl and prepare countermeasures for it, urban sprawl must be accurately measured first of all. The purpose of this study is to analyze the spatio-temporal changes of urban sprawl process in Seoul Metropolitan Area using landscape indices which measure the degree of urban sprawl in terms of urban structure such as area, distribution, and shape of urbanized area. FRAGSTATS, which is a tool for landscape analysis, is utilized to calculate landscape indices. Major findings are as follows. First, the urban sprawl in Seoul Metropolitan Area has been continually intensified since the late 1980s and this tendency was more clearer in the 1990s than the 2000s. While leapfrog development is relatively prominent in the 1990s, infilling development is remarkable in the 2000s. Second, the progress and development types of sprawl progress were different according to the zones which are defined based on Seoul Metropolitan Area Readjustment Planning Act. Congestion Restrain Zone shows the highest level of urban sprawl in terms of the evaluated landscape indices, but infilling development was predominant. In Growth Management Zone1, leapfrog development was dominant in the 1990s and infilling development in the 2000s. In Growth Management Zone1, leapfrog development has been continually remarkable since the late 1980s. Nature Conservation Zone shows the lowest level of sprawl, but its sprawl tendency is gradually being intensified. Third, the sprawl tendency in Seoul Metropolitan Area was different according to the distance and direction from Seoul. Urban sprawl was remarkable at Si-Guns close to Seoul in the late 1980s, Si-Guns close to Seoul and the southern part of Seoul in the late 1990s, and the southern and northern parts of Seoul in the late 2000s.

Engineering Properties of Lightweight Foaming Grouting Materials for Underground Cavities (지반 공동의 충진을 위한 발포성 경량그라우트재의 공학적 특성)

  • Underground cavities could induce road subsidence, which have been frequently observed in urban areas. Therefore, adequate backfilling materials and the restoring methods of the cavities are required to prevent the road subsidence. The objective of this paper is to evaluate the suitability of backfilling methods using foaming lightweight grouting materials considering the flow values, unit weights, and air contents at slurry and expanded states, and unconfined compressive strengths. The grouting materials consist of water, cement, and foaming agent whose proportions of water, cement, and foaming agent are 25: 25: 1.0 and 25: 25: 1.2. The flow values of the two materials are greater than 200 mm, and their unconfined compressive strengths at 28 days age are smaller than 1.3 MPa. From the results, the two proportions of materials are expected to be effectively used as a backfilling material. However, the material components should be carefully mixed because poor mix of these materials could induce non-homogeneous distribution of air bubbles. The unexpectedly non-homogeneous distribution of air bubbles may induce significant cracks or additional cavities.

Effects of Setting on the Quality Characteristics of the Smoked Alaska Pollock Roe Packed with Collagen Casing (Collagen Casing에 충진한 명란훈연제품의 품질특성에 대한 겔화의 영향)

  • Alaska pollock roe is mainly used as a raw material for fermented seafood, especially in the East Asia. Kernels of Alaska pollock roe are not valuable as a raw material and usually discarded as a waste product. In order to utilize the broken roes of Alaska pollock, the smoked product, a imitated sausage, was manufactured for commercial production. Texture intensity (hardness and gumminess) and sensory evaluation (taste and acceptability) of the smoked Alaska pollock roe packed with collagen casing were evaluated based on mixture design and regression models. At higher concentration of carrageenan and lower concentration of starch in the formula of the smoked Alaska pollock roe, higher texture intensity and sensory scores were obtained. pH values of all treatments (control, vacuum and $N_2$ packages) increased up to 6.28, 6.23 and 6.24 on 4 months of storage, respectively, and then decreased. The numbers of VBN, TBA and viable cell counts increased during storage periods, higher in control than in vacuum and $N_2$ packages. Coliform bacteria was not detected in all treatment during storage periods.

A Simultaneous Improvement in $CO_2$ Flux and $CO_2/N_2$ Separation Factor of Sodium-type FAU Zeolite Membranes through 13X Zeolite Beads Embedding (13X 제올라이트 흡착제 충진에 의한 Na형 Faujasite 제올라이트 분리막의 $CO_2/N_2$ 선택도 및 $CO_2$ 투과도 동시 증가 현상)

  • Sodium type faujasite(FAU) zeolite membranes with a thickness of 5${\mu}m$ and a Si/Al molar ratio of 1.5 were prepared by the secondary growth process. The $CO_2/N_2$ separation in the vacuum mode was investigated at $30^{\circ}C$ for an equimolar $CO_2-N_2$ mixed gas before and after embedding 13X zeolite beads in the permeate side. The embedded 13X zeolite beads improved both $CO_2$ permeance and $CO_2/N_2$ separation factor, simultaneously. The phenomenon was explained by an increment in the $CO_2$ desorption rate at the FAU zeolite/$\alpha-Al_2O_3$ phase boundary due to an enhanced $CO_2$ escaping through the pore channels of the $\alpha-Al_2O_3$ support layer. In the present paper, it will be emphasized that a hybridization of a membrane with an adsorbent can provide a key to break through the trade-off between permeance and separation factor, generally shown in a membrane separation.

Hydraulic Characteristics of Anaerobic Fluidized Bed Bioreactor (혐기성 유동상 반응기의 수리학적 특성)

  • Tracer experiments were carried out on two laboratory modes, "without media mode" and "with media mode", to examine the hydraulic characteristics of the anaerobic fluidized bed bioreactor (AFBR). For both configurations, a formula was derived for the hydraulics and data interpretation to obtain the actual characteristics of the reactor. The dispersion model is based on the assumption that carriers are non-reacting and the dispersion coefficient is constant. The model represents the one-dimensional unsteady-state concentration distribution of the non-reacting tracer in the reactors. The experimental results showed that the media increased the mixing conditions in the reactor considerably. For the reactor without media, in the range tested, the dispersion coefficient was at least an order of magnitude smaller than that of the reactor with media. Advective transport dominates and the flow pattern approaches the plug flow reactor (PFR) regime. The dispersion coefficient increased significantly as us, the superficial liquid velocity, was increased proportionally to 0.82cm/s. On the other hand, for the reactor with media, the flow pattern was in between a PFR and a completely mixed flow reactor (CMFR) regime, and the dispersion coefficient was saturated at us=0.41cm/s, remaining relatively constant, even at us=0.82cm/s. The dispersion coefficient depends strongly on the liquid Reynolds number (Re) or the particle Reynolds number (Rep) over the range tested.

Removal of Nitrate Nitrogen for Batch Reactor by ZVI Bipolar Packed Bed Electrolytic Cell (영가철 충진 회분식 복극전해조에 의한 질산성 질소 제거)

  • Nitrate nitrogen is common contaminant in groundwater aquifers, its concentration is regulated many countries below 10 mg/L as N (As per WHO standards) in drinking water. An attempt was made to get optimal results for the treatment of nitrate nitrogen in groundwater by conducting various experiments by changing the experimental conditions for ZVI bipolar packed bed electrolytic cell. From the experimental results it is evident that the nitrate nitrogen removal is more effective when the reactor conditions are maintained in acidic range but when the acidic environment changes to alkaline due to the hydroxide formed during the process of ammonia nitrogen there by increasing the pH reducing the hydrogen ions required for reduction which leads to low effectiveness of the system. In the ZVI bipolar packed bed electrolytic cell, the packing ratio of 0.5~1:1 was found to be most effective for the treatment of nitrate nitrogen because ZVI particles are isolated and individual particle act like small electrode with low packing ratio. It is seen that formation of precipitate and acceleration of clogging incrementally for packing ratio more than 2:1, decreasing the nitrate nitrogen removal rate. When the voltage is increased it is seen that kinetics and current also increases but at the same time more electric power is consumed. In this experiment, the optimum voltage was determined to be 50V. At that time, nitrate nitrogen was removed by 94.9%.

Analysis of the particulate matters in the vertical-flow woodchip wetland treating stormwater from paved road (포장도로 강우유출수 처리목적의 수직흐름형 우드칩 충진 습지에서 입자상 물질분석)

  • In this study, three pilot-scale wetland systems were built for treating stormwater runoff from asphalt road. Each of the system consists of a settling tank and a vertical flow wetland packed with 25%, 50%, and 75% woodchip as treatment media. According to the analysis of the distributions of particle size, it was found that solids ranging in size $0.52-30{\mu}m$ were predominant in the stormwater runoff. After 24-hours settling, those coarser than $20{\mu}m$ were significantly detained. Further retention, especially for the finer-sized fraction, occurred in the wetland through internal recirculation during the dry day periods. As a primary media of the wetland, woodchip showed a high filtration and attachment capacity for the particulates in pre-settled stormwater, whereas overall amount of solids in the wetland effluent increased due to the detachment of woody elements from the media. This was observed mainly during the initial 75 days of operation, and the size and detachment rate were found to be strongly related with the woodchip packing ratio. The mechanism involving woody particle detachment was modeled as a first-order form. In addition, water quality factors and operational parameters affecting the detachment were analyzed and discussed.
