A Study on Performance Enhancement of RFID Anti-Collision Protocols (RFID 충돌방지 프로토콜의 성능 개선에 관한 연구)

  • One of the key issues in implementing RFID systems is to design anti-collision protocols for identifying all the tags in the interrogation zone of a RFID reader with the minimum identification delay. In this paper, Furthermore, in designing such protocols, the limited resources in tags and readers in terms of memory and computing capability should be fully taken into consideration. we first investigate two typical RFID anti-collision algorithms, namely RFID Gen2 Q algorithm (accepted as the worldwide standard in industrial domain) and FAFQ algorithm including their drawbacks and propose a new RFID anti-collision algorithm, which can improve the performance of RFID systems in terms of tag identification time considerably. Further, we compared performance of the proposed algorithm with Q algorithm and FAFQ algorithm through computer simulation.

Performance Improvement of STAC Protocol by Grouping the Number of Tags (태그 수 그룹화를 통한 STAC 프로토콜의 성능 개선)

  • In RFID system, when multiple tags respond simultaneously, a collision can occur. A method that solves this collision is referred as anti-collision algorithm. In 13.56MHz RFID system of Auto-ID center, STAC protocol is defined as an anti-collision algorithm for multiple tag reading. The PS algorithm divides the tags within the identification range of reader into smaller groups by increasing the transmission power incrementally and identifies them. In this paper, we propose a STAC/PS algorithm that the PS algorithm is applied in the STAC protocol. Through simulations, it is demonstrated that the collision rate for the proposed algorithm is about 50% lower than STAC protocol. Therefore, the STAC/PS algorithm can achieve faster tag identification speed compared with STAC protocol due to the low collision rate.

An Efficient Tag Identification Algorithm Using Improved Time Slot Method (개선된 타임 슬롯 방법을 이용한 효과적인 태그 인식 알고리즘)

  • In recent year, the cores of ubiquitous environment are sensor networks and RFID systems. RFID system transmits the electronic information of the tag to the reader by using RF signal. Collision happens in RFID system when there are many matched tags, and it degrades the tag identification performance. Such a system needs algorithm which is able to arbitrate tag collision. This paper suggests a hybrid method which reduces collision between the tags, and can quickly identify the tag. The proposed method operates based on certainty, which takes an advantage of tree based algorithm, and to reduce collision it selects transmission time slot by using tag ID. The simulation results show the suggested method has higher performance in the number of queries and collision compared to other tree based and hybrid algorithms.

  • 전자해도 및 레이더와 같은 첨단운항시스템이 도입되고 있으나, 선박간의 충돌사고는 줄어들고 있지 않고 있으며 전체 사고의 30%를 차지하는 선박충돌사고의 80% 이상이 운항자의 실수에 의해 발생되고 있어, 이를 방지할 수 있는 지능적인 운항지원 시스템이 필요하다. 이를 위하여, 본 연구에서는 선박 충돌위험도 식별 정보를 활용하여 운항자에게 안전운항정보를 지원할 수 있는 시스템을 개발하였다. 기존에 항해레이더에서는 운항자가 특정 선박을 지정하여야만 선박충돌여유거리 및 선박충돌여유시간 등의 충돌예방정보를 얻을 수 있으나, 신규로 개발된 시스템에서는 선박들 중에 충돌위험이 높은 선박들을 자동으로 식별하여 충돌예상선박들의 정보를 실시간으로 제공받을 수 있어, 충돌 전에 미리 사고를 예방하고 신속히 대처할 수 있다. 개발된 시스템은 선박에 탑재하여, 실해역 성능시험을 실시하였다. 본 논문에서는 선박 충돌 위험도 기반의 안전운항 지원 시스템의 특징과 실해역 시험결과에 대해 소개한다.

Multichannel Anticollision Protocol for Improving Tag Collection Performance in Active RFID Systems (능동형 RFID 시스템에서 태그 수집 성능 향상을 위한 다중채널 기반 충돌방지 프로토콜)

  • Tag collection is one of the major functions in RFID systems. In this paper, we propose a multichannel slotted-aloha anticollision protocol to mitigate the tag collision problem and improve tag collection performance in active RFID systems. In the proposed anticollision protocol, while an RFID reader transmits commands to multiple RFID tags via a common channel, it receives multiple tag responses over multiple channels simultaneously. We also implemented an active RFID system supporting the proposed anticollision protocol. In experiments with the implemented reader and 60 tags, the proposed dual-channel slotted-aloha anticollision protocol showed a large improvement in tag collection performance compared with the single-channel slotted-aloha anticollision protocol. With 60 tags, the average time spent on tag collection using the dual-channel anticollision protocol was 600.543 ms, which was 46.3% of the 1289.721 ms required using the single-channel anticollision protocol.

  • The banyan network is a popular and basic structure of the multi-stage ATM switches. This paper presents a novel approach to resolve the internal blocking of the banyan network by using a Non-Blocking Permutation Generator (NBPG). The NBPG performs two functions, i.e., the first is to extract the conflict cells from the incoming cells and Ole second is to re-assign new input port addresses to the conflict cells. As a result, NBPG generates non-blocking I/O permutations. To estimate the performance of the NBPG, we provide the results of several simulations.

  • In this study, the effect of wall curvature and post-tension force on impact resistance is evaluated by numerical analysis method. A total of twelve cases with two parameters such as wall shape of flat and curved, and consideration of post-tensioning force were included in this study. A 3D detailed finite element model of commercial passenger plane engine is utilized as projectile. The depths of penetration and central displacement calculated from the numerical simulations were compared and analysed. As the results of the numerical simulations of this study, penetration depth was reduced approximately 60~80% due to the application of post-tension force, but the decrease of maximum central displacement was not remarkable. Also, the effect of curvature was relatively insignificant.

Analysis between Computer Simulation and Real-car Crash Test of Energy Absorption Facilities for Various Road Environments (다양한 환경에 적용 가능한 충격흡수시설의 시뮬레이션 분석 및 실물충돌시험 결과 분석)

  • Energy absorption facilities installed on roads should follow the performance standards of the real-car crash test of 'Installation and Maintenance Guidelines for Roadside Safety Facilities'. However, due to different installation conditions, such as differing structure widths on roads, some energy absorption facilities do not provide adequate performance. In order to apply varied environments on roads, an energy absorption structure was designed in this study with 150 mm height and four layers of W-shape guardrail at 200 mm intervals, and the performance was verified using LS-DYNA computer simulation. Through a real-car crash test, the performance of the facility designed by LS-DYNA was tested and was found to meet the performance of the CC2 category for crash cushions. The conclusion of the comparison demonstrates that the simulation and the real-car crash tests are both significant.

  • 본 논문에서는 IEEE 802.11 WLAN의 MAC인 DCF의 성능을 개선하는 알고리즘을 제안하고 이를 시뮬레이션으로 분석한다. IEEE 802.11 WLAN의 MAC에서는 데이터 전송을 제어하기 위한 방법으로 DCF와 PCF를 사용하며, DCF의 경우 CSMA/CA를 기반으로 한다. CSMA/CA는 스테이션간의 충돌을 줄이기 위해서 임의의 Backoff time을 각 스테이션의 CW(Contention Window) 범위에서 결정한다. 스테이션은 패킷 전송 후 충돌이 발생하면, 윈도우 크기를 두 배로 증가시키며, 패킷을 성공적으로 전송하면 윈도우 크기를 최소 CW로 감소한다. DCF는 경쟁 스테이션이 적은 상황에서는 비교적 우수한 성능을 보이나 경쟁 스테이션의 수가 많은 경우 처리율, 지연 관점에서 성능이 저하되는 문제점이 있다. 본 논문에서는 패킷 전송 후 충돌이 발생하면 윈도우 값을 최대 CW로 증가시키고 패킷의 정상적인 전송 후에는 윈도우 값을 서서히 감소함으로써 현재 WLAN의 망 상태정보를 계속 활용함으로써 패킷 충돌 확률을 낮추는 알고리즘을 제안한다. 제안하는 알고리즘의 효율성을 입증하기 위해 시뮬레이션을 수행하여 그 타당성을 제시하였다.

A Reader Anti-Collision Algorithm based on Hierarchical Structure for RFID Systems (RFID 시스템을 위한 계층적 구조 기반의 리더 충돌 방지 알고리즘)

  • In RFID system, reader collision happened when multiple readers try to read the tags at the same time. Because reader collision reduces tag recognition performance, it is required for RFID system to have reader anti-collision algorithm. In this paper, we propose reader anti-collision algorithm based on hierarchical structure, where a master reader controls the slave readers to avoid the reader collisions. It is verified through simulations that the proposed algorithm enhances the performance in terms of leader collision probability and tag reading time.
