Meta-Heuristic Algorithm Comparison for Droplet Impingements (액적 충돌 현상기반 최적알고리즘의 비교)

  • Droplet impingement on solid surfaces is pivotal for a range of spray and heat transfer processes. This study aims to optimize the cooling performance of single droplet impingement on heated textured surfaces. We focused on maximizing the cooling effectiveness or the total contact area at the droplet maximum spread. For efficient estimation of the optimal values of the unknown variables, we introduced an enhanced Genetic Algorithm (GA) and Particle swarm optimization algorithm (PSO). These novel algorithms incorporate its developed theoretical backgrounds to compare proper optimized results. The comparison, considering the peak values of objective functions, computation durations, and the count of penalty particles, confirmed that PSO method offers swifter and more efficient searches, compared to GA algorithm, contributing finding the effective way for the spray and droplet impingement process.

A Study of the Behavior of Droplet Impacting on a Horizontal Wire (수평 와이어와 충돌하는 액적 거동에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, the behavior of water droplet impacting on a thin horizontal wire was visualized by time-delay photography. The impact behavior modes, critical capture speed and trapped mass were analyzed by changing the droplet size, velocity, wire diameter and eccentricity ratio. As the Weber number increased, the hanging, merging, and splitting modes appeared sequentially for the case of central impact, and the hanging and non-splitting modes appeared for the case of off-center impact. The boundary We number of each mode was affected by the diameter ratio. The critical capture speed was affected much by the degree of eccentricity. For all diameter ratios, it was higher for the case of central impact than for off-center impact. The trapped mass was larger for the case of central impact than for off-center impact and it increased with the smaller We number and the larger diameter ratio.

  • This study investigated the characteristics of spray generated by a liquid-liquid co-axial swirl injector used in a combustor of the liquid rocket engine. The linear stability analysis[1] was introduced In liquid sheet breakup and Post[2]'s collision model which considers shattering was adopted on the collision model after breakup. Every model was implemented to KIVA[3], which was adopted as solve. To validate the implemented models the cases of high and low injection velocity were calculated respectively and each result agreed well with test results.

  • In a small high-speed D. I. diesel engine, the injected fuel spray into the atmosphere of the high temperature is burnt by go through the process of break up, atomization, evaporation and process of ignition. These process are important to decide the emission control and the rate of fuel consumption and out put of power. Especially, in the case of injected fuel spray impinging on the wall of piston cavity, the geometry of piston cavity gives great influence the ignitability of injected fuel and the flame structure. Ordinary, the combustion chamber of driving engine have unsteady turbulent flow be attendant on such as the change of temperature, velocity and pressure. So the analysis of spray behavior is difficult. In this study, the spray was impinged on the wall of 3 types of piston cavity such as Dish, Toroidal, Re-entrant type, in order to analyze the combustion process of impinging spray precisely and systematically. And hot wire probe was used for analyze non-steady flow characteristics of impinging spray, and to investigate the behavior of spray, the aspects of concentration c(t), standard deviation σ(t) and variation factor(vf) was measured with the lapse of time.

  • In this study, the behavior of the droplet colliding with parallel wires was analyzed by time-delay photography. The impact behavior modes and the critical capture speed were analyzed by changing fluids, the droplet velocity, the wire diameter and the distance between wires. Seven typical modes of impacting droplet on parallel wires were observed. The tendency of mode change was generally similar when the wire diameter was changed, but the increase of the wire diameter caused the increase of the droplet velocity at which the mode changed. The modes at the highest droplet velocity were the splitting mode when the wires were closest, the passing and splitting mode in the middle, and the passing mode when the wires were farthest apart. The critical capture speed increased as the wire diameter increased and the distance between wires decreased. The ethanol droplet showed the lowest critical capture speed.

  • In the present work, effects of spray characteristics (droplet size and velocity) on the temperature variation of a heated porous plate (Melamine foam) have been investigated through a series of experiments. Based on the measured data, time required to cool down the hot porous material turned out to be shorten by doing with the smaller droplet size and/or smaller impinging velocity. In particular, the droplet size effect is more prominent than the impinging velocity. The cooling performance in the porous material is directly proportional to the penetration velocity.

  • The objective of this study was to verify the experimental and numerical results of spray evolution injected from different types of the nozzle-hole geometries. Spray visualization was taken by high speed camera under the different conditions. For the simulations of spray tip penetration, turbulence, evaporation and break-up model were applied K-zeta-f, Dukowicz and Wave model, respectively. Also, the prediction accuracy of spray tip penetration was increased by varying the spray cone angle. At the same time, the results of this work were compared in terms of spray tip penetration, and SMD characteristics. The numerical results of spray evolution process and spray tip penetration showed good agreement with experimental one.

스월 인젝터의 Recess변화가 미립화에 미치는 영향

  • 동축형 인젝터는 이미 여러 발사체에서 널리 쓰이고 있는 인젝터의 한 형태로서 또 다른 인젝터 방식인 충돌형과 비교하여 구조가 복잡한 단점이 있는 반면에 연소 현상의 불안정성에 대해 덜 민감하며 미립화와 혼합의 특성도 우수하다. 이런 동축형 인젝터는 크게 스월 방식과 shear 방식으로 나누어진다. 이중에서 스월 인젝터는 산화제와 연료의 유입구에 접선 방향의 속도를 줌으로써 conical sheet 형태의 분무장을 형성하여 미립화와 혼합을 꾀하는 방식이다. 이와 같은 스월 인젝터에서 중요한 변수 중에 하나인 recess의 변화에 대해 분무 형상과 미립화 혼합특성까지 파악해보았다.

Effect of Operating Condition of Airblast Atomizer on Twin spray characteristics and interaction (공기충돌형 연료분사장치의 운용조건이 이중분무특성과 간섭효과에 미치는 영향)

  • The effect of operating condition was studied experimently on the characteristics of twin sprays ejected from two airblast atomizers, within the range of the mass air-fuel ratio 1.36∼3.54. Water and nitrogen gas were used as test fluids for the experiments. Spray characteristics of liquid spray were measured with measurement of mass distribution and instantaneous image of the spray cone. Experimental results show that the maximum specify of the distribution were lowered but distributed over the larger area when the ROA ratio increased, Center of mass position did not change with increasing water mass flow, Increase of the nozzle distance has an small effect on mass distribution of interaction area but distributed over the larger area. It was also conformed that the effect of interaction near central point of collision decreased with the increase of the ROA ratio on interaction area from comparison using superposition method

  • The effect of two-phase spray injected into subsonic cross-flow was studied experimentally. External-mixing of two-phase spray from orifice nozzle with L/d of 3 was tested with various air-liquid ratio that ranges from 0 to 59.4%. Trajectory of spray and breakup phenomena were investigated by shadowgraph photography. Detailed spray structure was characterized in terms of SMD, droplet velocity, and volume flux using PDPA. Experimental results indicate that penetration length was increased and collision point of liquid jets approached to nozzle exit and distributions of mist-like spray were obtained by increasing air-liquid ratio.
