Temperature Compensation of 8 Channel DWDM Multiplexer Using All Optical fiber Mach-Zehnder Structure (전광섬유형 8채널 DWDM용 광다중화기의 온도보상 특성)

  • In this paper, Passive Temperature Compensation Technology is apply to 8-channel Optical multiplexer with 1000Hz channel spacing. The 8-channel multiplexer is fabricated by connecting three cascaded Mach Zehnder Interferometer(MZI) of optical fiber type, and each interferometer has the wavelength interval of 100GHz, 2000Hz and 4000Hz, respectively. Furthermore, to acquire uniform insertion loss, it is fabricated by using Wavelength Flatten Coupler(WFC) in which the variation of insertion loss is low. $CO_2$ laser to adjust precisely the wavelength. The optical fiber is very sensitive in the thermal variation around. Thus, When fabrication the prototype, it is applied a technique to compensate the optical thermal effect because the center wavelength at the output is shifted according to the thermal variation around. In summary, The prototype composed by eight cascaded MZI has an insertion loss of 5.5 dB, the bandwidth of 0.8nm at 0.5 dB point, and channel crosstalk of 25 dB. Furthermore, the loss dependent on polarization is measured as 0.06dB. Consequently, the output wavelength is shifted within 0.05 m when the surrounding temperature varies until $60^{\circ}C$

Double-pass Second Harmonics Generation of Tunable CW Infrared Laser Beam of DOFA System in Periodically Poled LiNbO3 (PPLN 비선형 결정과 이중통과법을 이용한 DOFA 시스템에서 증폭된 연속발진형 파장가변 적외선 레이저광의 제 2고조파 발생)

  • The optimum conditions of second harmonic generation (SHG) can be successfully achieved experimentally using single pass and double pass methods of a pumping beam. The beam has a power of several Watts radiated by a DOFA (Diode Laser Oscillator & Fiber Amplifier) system, which is a high power CW wavelength tunable infrared laser system, in a PPLN (Periodically Poled MgO doped Lithium Niobate) nonlinear crystal. In the case of a single pass method, the parameters are the wavelength of 535 nm for SHG and the output power of 245 mW generated from the pumping input beam with wavelength of 1070 nm and the power of 2.45 W at phase matching temperature of $108.9^{\circ}C$. The conversion efficiency of SHG was 10%. In order to enhance the output of SHG, the double pass method of the SHG system of a PPLN using a concave mirror for the retroreflection and a pair of wedged flat windows for phase compensation was also presented. In this double pass system, we obtained the SHG output beam with the wavelength of 535 nm and the maximum power of 383 mW at optimum phase matching temperature of $108.5^{\circ}C$ by using an incident pumping beam with wavelength of 1070 nm and the power of 2.45 W. The maximum conversion efficiency is 15.6%, which is more than that of the single pass method.

  • KrF excimer laser, which is useful for fabrication of fiber gratings, was irradiated on the PLC-type WDM directional coupler and the transmission wavelength shift was observed as a function of UV exposure time.   • A 10 GHz harmonically mode-locked semiconductor-fiber ring laser was implemented using a semiconductor optical amplifier at $1.5\mu\textrm{m}$ The laser pulse has 13~18 ps pulse duration, 0.4~0.6 nm spectral width and was positively chirped. The output pulse with an average power of 4 dBm was compressed to 6.8 ps using 2 km long standard single mode optical fiber.

  • This paper has been studied about supply of optical source of laser diode with stable and uniform output wavelength in optical transmission system. The stabilized constant current circuit is designed. The temperature control circuit is constructed for the control of internal temperature of laser diode. Also, the wavelength locker is used in optical output. Finally, A/D, D/A converter and micro-processor are used for the control of temperature.

  • A feedback loop with bandpass filter is introduced in erbium-doped fiber amplifier to clamp the amplifier gain by lasing the amplifier at a selected wavelength. The gain and the ASE (amplified spontaneous emission) output spectra are found to be independent of input signal power and pump power variation so long as the amplifier is lasing. Also they are found to be dependent only on the overall loss of the feedback loop. Even in the case of slowly modulated large signal input, signal distortion due to gain saturation is not observed.served.

  • We demonstrate the operating characteristics(center wavelength, bandwidth, TE/TM polarization, tuning range) of grating-assisted co-directional coupler(GACC) filter fabricated with InGaAsP compound semiconductor. A design of waveguide structure has been focused on the narrow bandwidth characteristics of the filter. Reactive ion etching technique was employed for the uniform waveguide formation. The bandwidths(FWHM) and center wavelengths of the fabricated GACC filter were measured by 1.5 nm and 1530.6 nm for TE polarization and 1.3 nm and 1494.0 nm for TM polarization. This is the one of the narrowest bandwidth at 1530 nm region ever reported. The center wavelength shifted form 1530 nm to 1538 nm when the current of 100 mA was injected at 4.5 mm-long device. Good agreement between the designed and measured operating characteristics for some waveguide structures is demonstrated.

  • A cost-effective dense WDM-PON employing wavelength-locked Fabry-Perot lasers has been demonstrated. We have successfully demonstrated a dense WDM transmission of 4×622 Mb/s upstream signal with 50-GHz channel spacing over 30-km conventional single mode fiber. We have also investigated the heating noise characteristics of a wavelength-locked Fabry-Perot laser and showed the wavelength-locked Fabry-Perot laser suppresses the intensity noise of the incoherent light injected which enables a dense WDM transmission with a channels spacing of 50 GHz.
