Four-pass dye laser amplifier for the direct pulsed amplification of a tunable narrow-bandwidth continuous-wave laser (좁은 선폭을 갖는 파장가변 연속파 레이저의 펄스형 증폭을 위한 사중경로 색소 레이저 증폭기)

  • A new design of four-pass dye laser amplifier affording a narrow-bandwidth pulsed output is demonstrated to suppress the amplified spontaneous emission(ASE) carried by the amplifier output and reduce the possibility of parasitic oscillation in the amplifier. By the direct pulsed amplification of a cw 100 mW dye laser under a Q-switched doubled Nd:YAG laser pumping with energy of 5.6 mJ/pulse, high-peak-power pulsed output with 1.5-mJ energy in 130-MHz bandwidth is obtained corresponding to a power gain greater than $2{\times}10^6$ and an energy efficiency of 27%. The ASE ratio in the four-pass amplifier output is dramatically reduced by using a diffraction grating in the amplifier. Compared with the results obtained from the normal operation of the amplifier with no frequency-selective device, the ASE ratio is reduced by a factor in excess of 10 to remain under 1.5% of the amplifier output whereas the total output energy is slightly increased by ~4%.

Combustion Characteristics Study of an SI Engine Operated with DME Blended LPG Fuel (LPG-DME 혼합연료를 사용하는 전기점화 기관의 연소특성 연구)

  • In this study, a spark ignition engine operated with the DME blended LPG fuel was investigated experimentally. Performance, emissions characteristics including hydrocarbon, CO, NOx, and combustion stability of an SI engine fuelled with DME blended LPG fuel were examined at $1200{\sim}5200\;rpm$. Results showed that stable engine operation was possible for a wide range of engine loads within 20% mass content of DME fuel. Also, engine output power within 10% mass content of DME fuel was comparable to that of pure LPG fuel operation. However, engine output power was decreased and break specific fuel consumption (BSFC) was severely increased with the amount of blended fuel as the energy content of DME was much lower than that of LPG. DME blended LPG fuel is expected to be potential for enlarging DME market.

  • The performance of lithium ion batteries depends on the usage environment and the combination ratio of cathode materials. In order to develop a high-performance lithium-ion battery, it is necessary to manufacture the battery and measure its performance while varying the cathode material ratio. However, it takes a lot of time and money to directly develop batteries and measure their performance for all combinations of variables. Therefore, research to predict the performance of a battery using an artificial intelligence model has been actively conducted. However, since measurement experiments were conducted with the same battery in the existing published battery data, the cathode material combination ratio was fixed and was not included as a data attribute. In this paper, we define a training data model required to develop an artificial intelligence model that can predict battery performance according to the combination ratio of cathode materials. We analyzed the factors that can affect the performance of lithium-ion batteries and defined the mass of each cathode material and battery usage environment (cycle, current, temperature, time) as input data and the battery power and capacity as target data. In the battery data in different experimental environments, each battery data maintained a unique pattern, and the battery classification model showed that each battery was classified with an error of about 2%.

  • Multilevel inkjet printer employs multiple ink droplets with variable dot size and/or different concentrations intended to preserve high fidelity color reproduction and the appearance of continuous tone. A variety of research efforts on multitoning techniques has progressed toward better image quality. However, banding artifacts appear due to the same dot distributions near the printable output levels. This results in discontinuity and visually unpleasing output, especially at the smooth tone transition region. In this paper, to reduce the banding artifacts, a multitoning method to arrange ink distribution by controlling the blending proportion of adjacent output pixels based on an improved threshold scaling function is proposed. Ink distributions across the banding regions are changed according to two factors of the threshold scaling function because these factors handle the blending point of adjacent output pixel. Therefore, 8 observers, subjectively investigated ink distributions around the printable output levels for a set of the improved threshold scaling function. For a threshold scaling function with the specific factor values, we can achieve smoother visual transition. In the experiment, the proposed method showed a reduction of banding artifacts in both u-ay and color image and represented better Performance of color reproduction.

  • The Car License Plate Recognition(: CLPR) is required in searching the hit-and-run car, measuring the traffic density, investigating the traffic accidents as well as in pursuing vehicle crimes according to the increasing in number of vehicles. The captured images on the real environment of the CLPR is contaminated not only by snow and rain, illumination changes, but also by the geometrical distortion due to the pose changes between camera and car at the moment of image capturing. We propose homographic transformation and intensity histogram of vertical image projection so as to transform the distorted input to the original image and cluster the character and number, respectively. Especially, in this paper, the Multilayer Perceptron Algorithm(: MLP) in the CLPR is used to not only recognize the charcters and car license plate, but also determine the optimized ratio among the number of input, hidden and output layers by the real experimental result.

  • This paper proposes length rate measurement for relative efficiency that is a core of data envelopment analysis(DEA). It has been said that the linear programming(LP) is a unique method to get the relative efficiency. This method has drawback that applies fractional LP focusing on each DMU in turn. This paper draws bi-dimensional input-output relational graph and distinguishes between efficient and inefficient DMU. The relative efficiency of inefficient DUM is solve using length rate measurement. As a result of various experimental data, the LP shows mistake of application, but this method gets the correct relative efficiency at all times. Also, this method only gets the relative efficiency for only inefficient DMUs without efficient DUMs that already achieved 100% efficiency. This method solves the relative efficiency of inefficient DUM draws the line to efficient frontier and decides the reference set easily.

  • 상업성장과 더불어 국내 자동차 산업이 급속도로 발전하고 있는 것이 현실이다. 이와 관련하여 내연기간의 연구 및 개발 회상에 대한 요구가 그 어느때보다도 절실한 시점에 와잇는것이 우리의 실정이다. 현재 내연기관에 있어서의 연구개발의 최대목적은 기관의 성능회상에 있다. 이러한 결과를 얻기 위해서는 여러가지 방법이 있으나 그 운동부분에서 마찰손시를 적게 하기 위한 노력을 경주하여야 함은 말할나위가 없다. 특히 자동차용 engine은 실린더의 크기가 작고 슬라이딩면의 며적이 비교적 크며, 저출력에서의 사용 빈도가 크기 때문에 마찰 손시이 차지하는 비율이 높다. Engine이 마찰 손실은 저부하 일수록 손실이 크며 이부분에서의 최대 손실은 engine 전체 손실의 약 50%까지 도달하고, 그중에서 마찰 손시의 30-50%를 engine의 piston ring과 cylinder 사이의 마찰력이 차지하는 것으로 알려지고 있다.

  • 5GHz를 사용하고 최소6Mbps에서 최대 54Mbps까지 지원하는 IEEE 802.11a 무선 랜 에서는 데이터의 전송중에 발생하는 랜덤오류 및 연집오류의 정정을 위해서 길쌈부호기와 인터리버를 규정하고 있다. 길쌈부호기에서 다양하고 높은 데이터 전송율을 확보하기 위해서 변조방식과 전송율에 따라 높은 부호율을 얻기 위해 여러 개의 펑쳐링 기법을 사용해서 2/3와 3/4과 같은 높은 부호율이 얻어지도록 하고 있다. 펑쳐링을 거친 데이터는 Coding rate만큼의 비율로 데이터가 많아지고 이 데이터를 처리하기 위해서 가변클럭을 사용해야 한다. 가변클럭의 사용은 동기화 및 back-end 작업 시 여러 가지 문제를 발생시킨다. 본 논문에서 펑쳐링의 출력 비트를 바꾸고 인터리버에서 사용되는 메모리를 8x1의 메모리로 세분화 함으로써 Code rate에 상관없이 하나의 클럭으로 데이터의 병목현상을 처리 할 수 있다.

Image Super Resolution Using Neural Architecture Search (심층 신경망 검색 기법을 통한 이미지 고해상도화)

  • 본 논문에서는 심층 신경망 검색 방법을 사용하여 이미지 고해상도화를 위한 심층 신경망을 설계하는 방법을 구현하였다. 일반적으로 이미지 고해상도화, 잡음 제거 및 번짐 제거를 위한 심층신경망 구조는 사람이 설계하였다. 최근에는 이미지 분류 등 다른 영상처리 기법에서 사용하는 심층 신경망 구조를 검색하기 위한 방법이 연구되었다. 본 논문에서는 강화학습을 사용하여 이미지 고해상도화를 위한 심층 신경망 구조를 검색하는 방법을 제안하였다. 제안된 방법은 policy gradient 방법의 일종인 REINFORCE 알고리즘을 사용하여 심층 신경망 구조를 출력하여 주는 제어용 RNN(recurrent neural network)을 학습하고, 최종적으로 이미지 고해상도화를 잘 실현할 수 있는 심층 신경망 구조를 검색하여 설계하였다. 제안된 심층 신경망 구조를 사용하여 이미지 고해상도화를 구현하였고, 약 36.54dB 의 피크 신호 대비 잡음 비율(PSNR)을 가지는 것을 확인할 수 있었다.

  • We have investigated the lasing characteristics of intracavity second harmonics of a Nd:YAG laser pumped by a laser diode. Through the analysis of the scalings of laminar phases, we verify that the second harmonics are generated through on-off intermittency. The intermittent behavior can be reproduced by a numerical simulation with rate equations.
