Southeast Asian Studies in Korea Revisited: Pluralistic Growth and Lack of Inclusiveness (한국의 동남아연구 성장과 포괄성 문제)

  • The purpose of this study is to review the Southeast Asian studies in Korea in a comprehensive way and to set a new task for our academic community. To do this, I tried to analyze the total amount and trends of scholarly achievement (thesis, journal articles, and academic books). The content is divided into research history, research accumulation, and researcher scale. The history of research dates back more than we thought and was decentralized. Research accumulation is becoming more and more pluralistic. The number of researchers from various academic fields was higher than expected. The newly discovered Southeast Asian studies of Korea suggests the task of increasing the inclusiveness of our academic community. The KASEAS (Korean Association of Southeast Asian Studies) seems to be narrow and stagnant compared to the trend of Southeast Asian studies in Korea, which is constantly growing quantitatively, academically spreading, and transcending nationality. In order to increase the inclusiveness of the KASEAS, efforts should be made to open a variety of decentralized and autonomous study groups, to invite domestic graduate students from Southeast Asia, and to spread the university's foothold as a point of contact between pluralistic disciplines.

정책학의 학문적 정체성에 관한 시론적 연구 - 한국정책학회와 한국정책학회보를 중심으로 -

  • 본 연구는 정책학의 학문적 정체성을 정의·분류하고, 학문적 정체성의 하위차원에서 도출된 연구 질문과 기존 연구에서 제기된 논쟁점에 대해 학문공동체와 기존 연구들이 어떻게 논의하고 있는지를 정리하였다. 이러한 논의를 통하여 정책학의 정체성이 무엇이고 어떤 상태에 있는지, 연구 노력과 활동이 정체성 정립에 기여했는지, 학문적 정체성 구축을 위한 연구 함의는 무엇인지를 파악하고자 한다. 본 연구의 학문적 정체성은 '독자적이고 고유한 이론체계와 방법론 및 연구 대상과 범위를 가지고 있으면서(과학적 정체성) 경계에 따라 차이가 있고 구별되는 독특한 특징을 고민하면서(경계정체성) 공동체를 구성하여 학문의 영역과 미래를 회고·전망하는 것(집단정체성)'으로 규정하였다. 즉 정책학의 학문적 정체성은 세 가지 하위 차원과 각각의 구성요소(패러다임, 한국화, 공동체 활동 등)로 이루어져 있다. 정책학의 학문적 정체성을 종합적으로 판단하면 다음과 같다. 정책의 개념 정립과 이론 구축 등의 멀고 성가신 길을 회피하는 경향이 있는 것으로 판단하여 과학적 정체성 수준은 매우 낮고 그 구축은 요원하다고 하겠다. 빈약한 또는 잘못된 정책 개념을 극복하고 정당한 과정을 거친 개념 규정이 우선적으로 필요할 것이다. 정책학의 한국화에 대한 연구 요청 대(對) 무용론이나 연구 축적은 거의 없다는 비판 등이 대치하고 있는 것으로 판단하여 경계 정체성에 대한 위기를 인식하고 있지만 지속적인 관심과 연구 축적이 필요하다고 하겠다. 학문공동체를 구성하여 (한국)정책학의 위치와 미래에 대해 회고·전망의 장을 열고 있지만 공동체의 목적인 근본적 문제 등에 관한 자극은 부족한 것으로 판단하였다. 구성원들의 응집력은 한국화 등에 대한 공동 노력이 시도되고 있는 반면, 개념 구성 등에 대한 그것은 알려진 것이 드물다. 따라서 집단정체성은 과학적 정체성의 공유(자극, 공동노력, 응집력)는 상대적으로 부족하고 경계정체성의 공유는 시도 단계에 있다고 볼 수 있다. 개념 정립, 이론 구축 등과 같은 과학적 정체성에 대한 연구는 위험이 따르기 때문에 개인적 시도보다는 학문공동체의 관심과 자극이 수반된 공동 노력으로 연구될 필요가 있다고 하겠다.

Stand Composition of the Broad-leaved Forests in Korea by Use of Aerial Photographs (항공사진(航空寫眞)을 이용(利用)한 우리나라 활엽수림(闊葉樹林)의 임분구조(林分構造)에 관(關)한 硏究(연구))

  • To investigate the stand structure of the stocked broad-leaved forests in Korea, 1,000 plots, allocated by systematic sampling method, were interpreted on the aerial photographs accompanied with ground survey. Total area of the stocked broad-leaved forests except Jeju island was 818,286ha and the percentage to total forest area was 12.7%. Total stock volume of the stocked broad-leaved forests was $38,890,779m^3$ and the percentage to total stocked forest volume was 27.4%. Mean number of trees per ha was 947 trees/ha, basal area was $11.17m^3/ha$, DBH was 11.30cm, tree height was 7.65m, stock volume was $44.96m^3/ha$, and current annual volume increment was $3.64m^3/ha$ in total land. The 64.7, 79.8 and 52.7 percent of the stocked broad-leaved forest area were distributed at elevations of 300-900m, in slope degree of above 25, and in northern aspect, respectively. Standfactors were apt to get better with the increase of distance from the car road way and the village, and with the increase of elevation belt.

Effects of Acanthopanax Senticosus Leaves Supplementation on Performance, Nutrient Digestibility and Blood Characteristics in Korean Black Goats (가시오갈피 지엽의 급여가 흑염소의 생산성, 영양소 소화율 및 혈액성상에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted not only to investigate effects of different supplementation levels of Acanthopanax senticosus leaves on feed intakes, nutrient digestibility, nitrogen retention, and blood metabolites in Korean black goats but also to obtain basic data for nutritive value of Acanthopanax senticosus leaves and production of high quality functional animal products. Twelve Korean black goats were allotted to treatments in four groups of three goats per treatment and then they were housed in individual metabolism cages with completely random arrangements for 21 days. Four treatments were separated into controls and three different supplementation levels of Acanthopanax senticosus such as 10, 20 and 30%, respectively. For the chemical composition of experimental diets, crude protein (CP) contents of controls were 13.39% and those of supplementation treatments were lowered with increasing levels of Acanthopanax senticosus. Control groups tended to have higher acid detergent fiber (ADF) and neutral detergent fiber (NDF) contents as compared to supplementation groups, but non-fibrous carbohydrate (NFC) contents tended to be higher far supplementation groups than those for controls. Feed intakes had no significant difference among treatments, but digestible dry matter amounts were significantly higher for 20 and 30% supplementation groups than those for other treatments. Dry matter intakes per metabolic body weight and their ratio per body weight were highest in 20% group, but those of 40% groups were lowest (p<0.05). Crude protein, ADF and NDF digestibilities were significantly higher in Acanthopanax senticosus supplementation groups in comparison to controls (p<0.05), and in particular, they were increased with increasing supplementation levels of tranthopanax senticosus. Nitrogen retention was significantly higher for 20 and 30% treatments than those fur controls (p<0.05). Plasma urea nitrogen concentration was significantly lower for 30% supplementation group than those fur controls (p<0.05). Furthermore, plasma triglyceride concentration was significantly lower for Acanthopanax senticosus groups than those for controls (p<0.05). The results showed that supplemental level of 20% Acanthopnnax senticosus leaves to Korean black goats improved nutrient digestibility, nitrogen retention, and plasma urea nitrogen and triglyceride concentrations. Consequently, it might contribute to more efficient production of Korean black goats.

Effect of Continuous Feeding of Probiotics on Growth Performance, Nutrient Digestibility, Blood Urea Nitrogen and Immune Responses in Pigs (지속적인 생균제의 첨가가 돼지의 성장, 영양소 이용율, 혈중 요소태 질소 및 면역능력에 미치는 영향)

  • This experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of continuous feeding of probiotics on growth performance, nutrient digestibility, blood urea nitrogen(BUN) and immune responses in pigs. Treatments were 1) Control(basal diet), 2) P-O.l(basal diet + 0.1% probiotics) and 3) P-0.2(basal diet + 0.2% probiotics). In growth trial, a total of sixty pigs(6.17 $\pm$ 0.45 kg average body weight) weaned at 21 days of age were used. All pigs were assigned according to sex and body weight, and each treatment had 5 replicates of 4 pigs per pen in a randomized complete block(RCB) design. During 0${\sim}$8 weeks, there was no significant difference in average daily gain(ADG), average daily feed intake(ADFI) and gain:feed ratio(GfF) among treatments. During 9 - 20 weeks, ADG was improved significantly in pigs fed P-O.I or P-0.2 diets when compared to the pig fed control diet(P <0.05), but there was no significant difference in ADFI and GfF ratio. During overall period, ADG, ADFI and GfF ratio were not significantly different among treatments. In the first metabolic trial(17.93 $\pm$1.45kg average body weight), apparent digestibility of OM, protein, fat in pigs fed P-O.l and P-0.2 diets were greater than in pigs fed control diet(P <0.05) and ash digestibility in pigs fed P-0.2 diet was significantly higher than in pigs fed control diet(P <0.05). Calcium digestibility in pigs fed P-0.2 diet was significantly higher than in pigs fed control and P-O.I diets(P <0.05). Fecal-N excretion was lower in pigs fed P-O.! and P-0.2 diets than in pigs fed control(P <0.05). In the second metabolic trial(41.80 $\pm$ 2.68kg average body weight), there was no significant difference among treatments in apparent digestibility of nutrients and N-retention. In blood assay for the BUN and immune responses investigations, there was no significant difference among treatments during overall period of experiment. Therefore, this experiment suggested that probiotics supplementation could improve growth performance and nutrient digestibility of pigs.

Availability of Heavy Metals in Soil and Their Translocation to Water Dropwort (Oenanthe javanica DC.) Cultivated near Industrial Complex (토양내 중금속 유효도와 미나리중의 흡수이행성 평가)

  • This experiment was conducted to investigate heavy metal transition and bioavailability from soil to the edible pare of water dropwort near industrial complex. The soils were collected from the paddies cultivating water dropwort stream sediments, and background soils near industrial complex. The pH values, organic matter, Av. $P_2O_5$, Ex. Ca content of paddy soils were higher than those measured for nor-contaminated paddy fields in 2003. The contents of Cd and Cu was higher than those of standard level for soil contamination by Soil Environmental Conservation Act in Korea. The pollution index in stream sediments were higher than those of paddies cultivating water dropwort. The geoaccumulation index of heavy metals in paddy soils and stream sediment were in the order Cu>Cd>Ni>Zn>Pb. The rates of 0.1N-HCl extractable heavy metals to total contents in soils were in the order Cd>Cu>Zn>Ni>Pb. In case of Cd and Ni in paddy soils near industrial complex, 0.1N-HCl extractable heavy metals and total content were highly correlated with each other. Heavy metal contents in mot parts were higher than those in top pare of water dropwort. The Zn and Cu transfer factor from soil to the top pare of water dropwort were higher than those of other heavy metals. The bioavailability of water dropwort varied considerably between the different parts and heavy metals. Cd, Cu and Ni contents in water dropwort were correlated with each elements in paddy soils.

Effects of Feeding Whole-Crop Barley Silage and Corn Silage on Nutrients Availability, Growth Performance and Blood Parameters in Korean Black Goats (청보리사일리지 및 옥수수사일리지 급여가 육성기 재래 흑염소의 영양소 이용률, 성장 및 혈액성상에 미치는 영향)

  • This study examined the effects of feeding whole-crop barley silage (BS), corn silage (CS) and the mixture of BS and CS (CB) on feed consumption, daily gain, nutrients apparent digestibilities and blood parameters in order to investigate the feed evaluation in Korean black goats. BS, CS, and CB were fed to twelve Korean black goats, which were allocated into three groups in metabolic cages according to the latin-square design. As a result, dry and organic matter intakes for goats per day have shown a tendency to decrease in the order of CS, CB and BS, but there were no significant differences. We also found a similar tendency when the intakes of crude protein, crude fat, and non-fiber carbohydrates (NFC) were examined. However, ADF and NDF consumptions showed a decreasing tendency in the order of CB, BS and CS. Dry matter intakes per metabolic body weight showed the decreasing tendency in the order of CS (57.6g), CB (53.8g) and BS (52.7g), however with no statistical differences. Average daily gain of 64.2 g in CB was significantly higher than the other groups (42.0g to 46.0g). Nitrogen intakes and nitrogen retention showed a decreasing tendency in the order of CS, CB and BC. Nevertheless, nitrogen retention in CS group was higher by 30% than that of the BC group with p<0.05. Apparant digestibilities of dry and organic matters were 72.6 and 72.8% for the CS group respectively, which were significantly higher than those of the BS group (67.5 and 69.0%) and the CB group (66.0 and 67.1%). In conclusion, the results of this study demonstrated that the CS group showed more positive feed consumption, digestibility, and nitrogen retention in Korean black goats than those of BS group. The CB group, however, showed similar results to the results of the CS group.

Early Changes after Death of Plaice, Paralichthys olivaceus Muscle -1. Relationship between Early Changes after Death and Temperature Dependency- (넙치(Paralichthys olivaceus)육의 사후 조기 변화 -1. 사후 조기 변화와 온도 의존성의 관계-)

  • To know the extension effect of storage temperature on the pre-rigor period of plaice, Paratichthys olivaceus muscle, the relationship between early changes after death and temperature dependency was studied. Killed plaices instantly with spiking at the brain were stored at $-3^{\circ}C,\;0^{\circ}C,\;5^{\circ}C\;and\;10^{\circ}$ used in studying the changes in rigor Index, ATP and its related compounds, lactate contents and K-value. The most shortest onset time of rigor-mortis and full rigor was revealed in the sample stored at $-3^{\circ}C$ among the all samples, where rigor-mortis began at 4hrs after spiking and maximum tension was attained after 28hrs. However, in case of fresh plaice muscle stored at $10^{\circ}C$, the onset of rigor-mortis and full rigor were retarded to 14hrs and 52hrs after spiking. ATP in sample stored at $5^{\circ}C\;and\;10^{\circ}C$ were decomposed slowly than sample at $0^{\circ}C\;-3^{\circ}C $ and within 35hrs storage. The fastest rate and the maximum content of lactate accumulation were showed in sample stored at $-3^{\circ}$ among the all samples. The correlation coefficient(r) between the rate of rigor mortis and ATP breakdown, rigor mortis and lactate accumulation, and ATP breakdown and lactate accumulation were -0.981946, 0.965044, and -0.964728, respectively. Freshness of $-3^{\circ}C$ stored samples was maintained for the longest time compared with other stored samples. The times reached around $20\%$ of K-value were 240hrs for samples stored at $-3^{\circ}C,\;96hrs\;for\;0^{\circ}C\;samples,\;71hrs\;for\;5^{\circ}C\;samples,\;and\;22hrs\;for\;10^{\circ}C$ samples. Samples stored at $-3^{\circ}C,\;and\;0^{\circ}C$ were showed higher temperature dependency on rate of rigor-mortis, ATP breakdown, and lactate accumulation than $5^{\circ}C\;and\;10^{\circ}C$ stored samples, but those samples have a lower temperature dependency on K-value.

퇴적 마그네슘의 승온속도와 열분해특성

  • 마그네슘은 스마트폰, 전자기기 케이스, 내화벽돌과 아크용접봉 제조시의 첨가물 등으로 사용되고 있는데, 최근에는 재활용을 위한 마그네슘 용해로를 취급하거나 가공하는 사업장이 증가하고 있어 사고위험성이 높아지고 있다. 금속분을 취급하는 사업장에서의 금속분진은 저장이나 축적 등과 같이 주로 퇴적물로서 존재한다. 퇴적분진의 발화온도는 퇴적물 형상과 두께, 입경, 분위기 가스의 유속, 산소농도, 부유분진의 농도, 퇴적밀도, 수분 등의 많은 영향인자가 관여하기 때문에 이론적 예측이 힘들고 실험적인 측정에 의존할 수 밖에 없는 것이 현실이다. 본 연구에서는 연소성이 높고 화재폭발사고사례가 많은 마그네슘(Mg) 분진을 사용하여 승온속도 변화에 따른 열분해특성을 조사하였다. 퇴적분진의 열적특성을 조사하기 위하여 METTLER TOLEDO의 TGA/DSC1를 사용하였으며, Mg 시료의 평균입경은 38, $142{\mu}m$이다. 입경 $38{\mu}m$의 Mg 시료의 열중량분석 결과, 중량증가는 $400{\sim}500^{\circ}C$의 범위에서 시작되며 $550^{\circ}C$에서 급격하게 중량이 증가하고 있으며, 증량증가개시온도(Temperature of weight gain)는 $460^{\circ}C$에서 시작하여 $900{\sim}950^{\circ}C$ 범위에서 중량 증가 포화값에 도달하였다. 입경 $142{\mu}m$의 Mg에 대하여 공기중 승온속도를 5, 10, $20^{\circ}C/min$으로 변화시키면서 실온에서 $900^{\circ}C$까지 가열 시키는 경우의 시료의 중량 변화에 따른 열분해 특성은 승온속도가 증가할수록 2단계의 S자 곡선은 완만하게 상승을 나타내며 중량증가개시온도가 높아지는 경향을 보이고 있다. 중량증가개시온도가 승온속도에 따라 변화하는 결과를 나타내고는 있지만, 시료량의 증가에 따른 영향을 열중량분석 실험방법의 제약으로 인하여 확인할 수 가 없었다. 그러나 만일 시료량이 크게 증가하는 경우에는 동일한 승온조건에서 중량증가 개시온도는 낮아질 가능성이 있다. 중량증가는 시료의 산화반응에 의한 것이므로 시료량의 증가는 시료 내부에의 열의 축적을 용이하게 하여 보다 낮은 온도에서도 산화반응이 충분히 일어나는 조건이 형성되기 때문이다. 승온속도가 증가할수록 산화 반응한 괴상형태의 연소입자가 크게 증가하고 있는 것을 알 수 있다. 승온속도에 따른 중량개시온도 곡선을 보면 [그림 24]와 같으며 승온속도 5, 10, $20^{\circ}C/min$의 증가에 따라 중량개시온도는 각각 490, 510, $530^{\circ}C$가 얻어졌으며 승온속도의 증가에 따라 중량개시온도가 증가하는 경향을 보이고 있다.

Accumulation of Heavy Metals in Forest Birds from Korea - Especially in Mt. Chiri - (한국산(韓國產) 산림조류(山林鳥類)의 중금속(重金屬) 축적(蓄積) - 지리산지역(智異山地域)을 중심(中心)으로 -)

  • The heavy metal contents accumulated in the birds organ were analyzed by use of 10 species of birds to investigate the environmental pollution of the birds inhabited in Mt. Chiri. Heavy metal concentrations in bird organs, e.g. muscle, liver, kidney, lung and heart were analyzed for 10 species of the birds. 1. Contents of some heavy metal elements such as Fe, Zn, Cu and Mn were similar level compared with any other district. But contents of some heavy metal elements shch as Pb, Cd and Hg were comparatively lower level than those in any other district. 2. The contents of heavy metal accumulation in the muscle of the bird organs were detected much more from the migrants than the resident birds ; the resident bird, Phasianus colchicus were detected to contain $0.01{\mu}g/g$ og Hg and $0.05{\mu}g/g$ of Cd, but in the migrant bird, Turdus dauma they were detected to contain $0.17{\mu}g/g$ of Hg and $0.08{\mu}g/g$ of Cd. 3. The contents of lead were scarcely detected in the muscle of 10 species of birds, but it was highly detected from the hunting (meat-eating) birds such as Phasianus colchicus ($0.17{\mu}g/g$) and Streptopelia orientalis ($0.11{\mu}g/g$). Generally, the concentration of heavy metals of the analyzed birds was more mercury than Cadmium.
