  • Mixing effect on anaerobic digestion of livestock wastewater was different results depending on the researchers have been reported. The purpose of this study was to understand application of Korea livestock waste it was necessary to determine the effect of mixing. 4 anaerobic reactors were operated mesophilic and thermophilic temperature with continuous mixing or non mixing condition, respectively. Experimental result showed If temperature was same, TCOD removal efficiency of continuous mixing reactor was 0.11-0.58% higher than non mixing reactor. Different mesophilic and thermophilic temperature, there was no significant difference of TCOD removal efficiency. Continuously mixed digester gas production was 1.7-4.6% higher than non mixed digester. In addition, mesophilic digester gas production was 29.1-32.1% higher than the thermophilic digester. It was due to the thermophilic digester believe the inhibition of ammonia. This study suggest that the optimized operation condition of anaerobic digestion for livestock wastewater treatment was mesophilic continuous mixing state.

  • The objective of this study was to investigate the proper operation conditions of fenton oxidation such as initial pH, $H_2O_2/Fe^{2+}$ ratio, $H_2O_2/Fe^{2+}$ dosage amount, and neutralizing agent for pretreatment of the livestock wastewater. Fenton oxidation reagents were reacted with the livestock wastewater for 2 hours at 120 rpm and the settling was performed for 2 hours using jar-tester apparatus under the different experimental conditions. And then the supernatant was sampled and measured for the residual $H_2O_2$, $COD_{Cr}$, and SS. The results are as follows; optimum initial pH=4, optimum $H_2O_2/Fe^{2+}$ ratio=10:1, optimum $H_2O_2/Fe^{2+}$ dosage amount=5,000/500 mg/L and $Ca(OH)_2$ as proper neutralizing agent. The removal efficiency of $COD_{Cr}$ and SS were 43% and 84% under those optimal fenton oxidation conditions.

  • The green algae, Botryococcus braunii, has an unusually high hydrocarbon content, ranging from 15 to 75% of dry weight, as a long-chain unsaturated hydrocarbon. It has a potential as a renewable source of chemical feedstocks or fuels. The commercial production of hydrocarbon by B. braunii has not been achieved mainly due to their economic and several technical barriers. The B. braunii cultivation with piggery wastewater could alleviate to economic problems by the reduction of inorganic nutrients, mainly nitrogen and phosphorus from wastewater. We have been studying cultivation of B. braunii in the pretreated piggery wastewater by a MBR(membrane bioreactod, containing about 3000 mg $NO^3$ /L, 15 mg $NH_4\;^+/L$, 3 mg P/L, and others. The purpose of this study was to develop a continuous culture system in piggery wastewater and nitrogen-limited chemostat.
