  • Objectives: This study is designed to report the valid result of complex of Chuna Therapy and Myofascial Release Technique(MRT) on scoliosis patients. Methods: The correction program for scoliosis takes 3 month per case. Chuna Therapy and MRT were given once a week and other oriental medicine care was given twice a week to care the complications of scoliosis. The Cobb's angle(by X-ray, Full spine view) and Visual analogue scale(VAS) were evaluated before and after the treatments. Results: After the program, both of Cobb's angle and VAS decreased. Conclusions: Though it is a case report, we found Chuna Therapy and MRT might have valid effect on scoliosis patients. Further rigorous case series and controlled trials are warranted.

  • Objectives This study examined recent domestic and international clinical research trends in Gua sha therapy to suggest future direction for research. Methods We used six domestic and international databases (Research Information Sharing Service, Korean studies Information Service System, Oriental Medicine Advanced Searching Integrated System, PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library) to select clinical studies with an original text in English or Korean published after 2018. Results Finally, 55 studies were selected. Randomized controlled trials accounted for the largest amount with 42 studies. Instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization was the most frequent term referring to Gua sha. Muscle shortening, limited range of motion, and plantar fasciitis were the most common symptoms, with six cases each. Additionally, there were two studies targeting symptoms other than the musculoskeletal system. Conclusions Additional research is needed on the effects of Gua sha therapy on the back of the lower extremities and hip joints, and research is needed on the possibility of their clinical use for diseases or symptoms other than those of the musculoskeletal system. And standards for the terminology of Gua sha and the types and methods of applied interventions are needed.

  • Objective : There is hardly case report in oriental Medicine about the ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament(OPLL). We experienced a patient(64-year-old male) with OPLL improved by oriental Medicine treatment, and we report it clinically. Methods : While the patient with OPLL was treated acupuncture, physical therapy, and CHUNA manual therapy, we evaluated the patient's symptoms and function by visual analogue scale(VAS), clinical criteria for evaluation of the cervical myelopathy by the japanese orthopaedic association(JOA Score) and cervical spine's range of motion(ROM) in three limes for the 17 days that were a hospitalization period. Results : VAS, JOA score and ROM in OPLL patient were improved. VAS in symptoms became lower from 10 to 5. JOA score increased from 12 points to 13 points. As for the ROM, it was improved in 30.1%. Conclusion : Oriental medicine treatment may be effective in conservative treatment of OPLL. We propose that more clinical studies and reaches are accomplished in oriental medicine.

  • The occurrence of neurologic symptom, for example cauda equina syndrome or disc rupture after Chuna treatment seems to be an uncommon event considering the large number of Chuna treatment performed. We experienced a woman who developed sudden complication after lumbar Chuna treatment. Patients in spinal hernation undergone Chuna treatment can be the causative factor in neurological symptom and must be considered in each case. Therefore, physicans and patients should be aware that neurological complication may occur as a result of lumba Chuna treatment.

  • Objectives : This study aimed to introduce a new sacral lumbar joint distraction technique in the prone position in Chuna manual therapy for effective lumbar distraction. Methods : The patient was placed in the prone position. Next, clinicians contacted the sacrum and L1, L2, L3, L4 and L5 spinal processes. Then they were pulled in the direction of the head and leg respectively while pressing down with 30% force to maintain the lumbar lordosis. This is a more effective and safer lumbar distraction technique according to the latest knowledge. Conclusions : This technique can be used for lumbar disc herniation in addition to relaxing the existing lumbar muscles, and is suggested to be used as a safe and effective Chuna manual therapy.

We measured Visual Analog Scale(VAS) and symptom grade before and after treatment in each group's. Statistical analysis was performed by using SPSS program. Results : 1. Symptom grade III was the highest frequency before treatment in Group A and Group B. After treatment, grade 0 was The highest frequency in Group A But grade 0, II were the highest frequency in Group B. 2. Group A was Significantly decreased in VAS compared with Group B. Conclusion: These results suggest that Chuna treatment is useful on the patients of neck pain.

  • This study was performed to report the effect of oriental medical treatment and general biomechanic manipulation on a patient with upper limb palsy caused by postural brachial plexus injury. The patient was treated with acupuncture, herb medicine and general biomechanic manipulation. The effectiveness of treatment was evaluated with range of motion, visual analogue scale and manual muscle test. After 11 times treatment, motion and muscular force were progressed, pain was decreased. This result suggests that oriental medical treatment and general coordinative manipulation are effective to care the postural brachial plexus injury.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to assess the efficacy of Chuna and taping treatment in patients with genu varum. Methods : Twenty-seven patients(male:10, female:17) with genu varum were recruited in this study. Chuna treatment at pelvic, and taping treatment at both legs were applied to whole participants. Outcomes were assessed using Q-angle(Quadriceps angle, QA), tibiofemoral angle(TFA), width and length of lesser trochanter(LT), pelvic incidence(PI), pelvic(PT), sacral slope(SS), lumber lordosis angle(LLA), meridian-electromyography(MEMG), Korean western ontario and McMaster universities osteoarthritis index(KWOMAC), and distance of femoral intercondylar distance(ICD). Results : 1. QA, LT width and LT length in radiograph were significantly increased. 2. PI, SS, PT and TFA in radiograph were significantly decreased. 3. The left vastus medialis portion contraction of female was significantly decreased after treatment. 4. The left rectus femoris portion fatigue was significantly decreased after treatment in male subjects. 5. The vastus medialis portion fatigue was significantly decreased after treatment in female subjects. 6. The distance of femoral ICD was significantly decreased. Conclusions : This study showed that Chuna and taping treatment could be used as an effective method for the treatment of genu varum.
