Sequential Washing Techniques for Arsenic-Contaminated Soils near the Abandoned Iron-Mine (폐 철광산 주변 비소로 오염된 토양에 대한 연속 세척기법의 적용)

  • Several tests were conducted to determine the optimum operational conditions of soil washing techniques for floe-forming arsenic-contaminated soils, collected from D abandoned Iron-mine in Korea. The optimum cut-off size was 0.15 mm $(sieve\;\#100)$, about $94\%$ of the mass of soils. Both sodium hydroxide and hydrochloric acid were effective to remove arsenic and the optimum mixing ratio (soil [g] : washing solution [mL]) was 1:5 for both washing agents. Arsenic concentrations, determined by KST Methods, for the dried floe solids obtained from flocculation at pH 5-6 were $990\~1,086\;mg/kg$ dry solids, which were higher concentrations than at the other pH values. Therefore, batch tests for sequential washings with or without removing floc were conducted to find the enhancement of washing efficiencies. After removing floe with 0.2 M HCl, sequential washings of 1 M HCl followed by 1 M NaOH showed the best results (15 mg/kg dry soil). The arsenic concentrations of washing effluent from each washing step were about $2\~3\;mg/L$. However, when these acidic and basic effluents were mixed together, arsenic concentration was decreased to be less than $50\;{\mu}g/L$, due to the pH condition of coagulation followed by precipitation for arsenic removal.

  • In this paper, provide the optimal sleep environment of individual by extracting the simulation model based on that collect sleep environment data of bedroom to sleeping, and analyzing the relationship between conditions with obtained data and sleep. In addition, it was to provide a more stable sleep solution by defining different and pattern from sleep situation according to physical condition such as fatigue ratio, alcohol ratio, fasting ratio, etc. depending on the sleep process. Therefore, it change the proper indoor environment and help to enjoy life more pleasant.

  • In this paper, we design and build an information system for the growth management of agricultural products and aquatic products by ubiquitous computing. So that, we installed various sensor systems and developed IP Cam to establish monitoring. It was possible to construct an environmental management system based on IT technology by a database that directly controls and manages the growth conditions of agricultural products and aquatic products by monitoring. We have installed various sensors that can acquire data in real time and IP Cam is designed and manufactured in three parts. It was applied to agricultural and marine products and monitored soil moisture, temperature, and environmental information to establish conditions for growth environment.

Molecular Isolation and Characterization of the 2CysPrx Gene from Salicornia herbacea (퉁퉁마디로부터 2CysPrx 유전자 분리 및 특성 분석)

  • This study is focused on the investigation of the genes which are induced by various stresses of the halophyte Salicornia herbacea. One of the factors influencing in the germination of Salicornia herbacea is salt stress. The highest germination rate was found in the condition without NaCl, and the upper limit of the NaCl concentration for the germination of Salicornia herbacea was 7%. The optimal temperature of $20^{\circ}C$showed a germination rate of 98%. Among genes induced by stress the 2CysPrx gene was cloned and analyzed for this study. The 2CysPrx gene has two cysteine conserved residues and is composed of 275 amino acids with molecular weight of 30.1kDa. The 2CysPrx gene appeared to be one copy in the genome and consists of 6 introns and 7 exons. Quantitative real-time PCR revealed that the highest transcription rate induced by NaCl and $H_2O_2$ appeared to be at the concentration of 3.5% NaCl and 40mM $H_2O_2$, respectively. The amount of transcript induced by high temperature($40^{\circ}C$) and $75{\mu}M$ of ABA was respectively highest. The gene at low temperature ($4^{\circ}C$) appeared not to be expressed. We are conducting to clone other peroxyredoxin genes induced by various environmental stresses.

Microhabitat Analysis of Endangered Species (I), Cobitis choiiwith Rapid Decreases of Population by Environmental Pollution for a Habitat Replacement (환경오염에 의해 급감하는 멸종위기 1급 어종인 미호종개의 대체 서식지 마련을 위한 미소서식지 분석)

  • The objectives of this research were to analyse the microhabitat of Cobitis choii which is designated as an endangered fish species (I) and national monument species in Korea (No. 454), and provide valuable information of suitable replacement habitat in the future for a conservation of the population with rapid decreases by environmental pollution. Sampling and microhabitat analysis in three streams such as Baekgok, Yugu and Gap Stream, known as one of the least habitats in Korea showed that the mean number of Cobitis choii observed was 2.6. This result indicated that the richness was too low, so the species conservation was very urgent. Optimal physical microhabitat of the population was determined as environmental conditions with > 60% sand with 1 mm particle size, optimal water depth of 20 - 60 cm in the habitats, and the optimal current velocity of < 0.4 m/s. Under the circumstances of the microhabitat, optimal water volume (discharge) was 0 - 2 m3/s in the each sectional analysis and this reach was mainly composed of the stream section with intermittant slow runs and pools. These microhabitats were largely disturbed by physical modifications of habitat and chemical pollutions due to direct influences of nutrient-rich water inputs from the urban area and intensive agricultural pollutants. For these reasons, optimal habitat replacement are required in the future for the conservation of the species.

  • 최근, 식물생산시설의 집중화, 첨단화, 대규모화의 추세속에서 최적생산을 위한 환경제어가 필요로 되고 있고, 이를 위해서는 시설내의 환경예측이 필수불가결하다. 그러나 현재까지 식물생산시설의 환경예측에 관련된 많은 모델들이 개발되어 있지만 각 모델들은 독자적 목적을 가진 경우가 많기 때문에 목적과 환경조건이 상이한 시스템에서는 수정 및 보완을 하지 않으면 적용 불가능하였다. 따라서 효율적인 환경설계를 위하여 시설내의 환경을 수치적으로 예측하고 평가할 수 있는 다목적 환경예측모델의 개발이 필요하다. (중략)

A study on the Optimization of Sewage Sludge-based Adsorbent Carbonization Condition for Improving Adsorption Capacity of Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) (황화수소(H2S) 흡착성능 증진을 위한 하수슬러지 기반 흡착제 탄화조건 최적화 연구)

  • In this study, the optimization of carbonization conditions in manufacturing processes was performed to improve the absorption performance of sewage sludge based sorbent used for treating $H_2S$ out of all odorous substances generated by various environmental facilities. Adsorbents applied were manufactured from the sewage treatment plant under different carbonization conditions, such as temperature and heating rate, and the correlation between the adsorption performance and physical properties of the adsorbents was verified. As a result, the adsorption performance of sludge at $900^{\circ}C$ with a heating rate of $10^{\circ}C/min$ was the best, and the SEM and BET analysis revealed that specific surface area and characteristics of pore (size, volume) were major parameters for the adsorption. In addition, the effect of K ions used for improving the adsorption performance of the optimum carbonization condition sorbent was insignificant for the sewage sludge based sorbent.

  • In this study, a satellite payload module was optimized by considering local stabilities. As design constraints in the satellite structure, local instabilities such as wrinkling, dimpling, crippling for honeycomb structures and crippling failure mode for beams were considered in addition to frequency and stress constraints. The constraints for the local instabilities (uncommon in general structures) were taken for the optimization of a satellite structures under severe launching environments. The analysis was performed combining the finite element analysis and optimization program. From the optimization results, it was found that frequency, crippling and wrinkling were the most critical constraints to achieve the design goals. Also, the importance of each design variable was estimated. Finally, the optimum design of the payload module was achieved for various design constraints and design parameters.

  • 비점오염이란 도시, 도로, 농지, 산지, 공사장 등 불특정 장소에서 발생되는 오염을 말하며 건기 시에는 오염물질이 토지에 축적되었다가 강우 발생 시 강우와 함께 유출되어 관리에 많은 어려움이 있다. 유출된 오염물질은 특별한 전처리 없이 하천이나 호소로 유입되어 각종 수질오염, 부영양화 및 생활환경에 많은 영향을 받게 되며 상수원수에 문제가 발생하게 된다. 비점오염원의 특징은 초기강우 유출수는 고농도이며 토사, 협잡물 등이 많이 포함되어 있다. 초기강우 발생형태는 수로의 형태, 노면상태 유역현상 및 강우도달시간 등 유역의 특성에 따라서 달라지며, 토지이용상황, 하수도 정비여부 등에 따라서 오염물질의 종류와 농도가 변한다. 도시지역과 도로주변에는 먼지, 쓰레기, 마모된 타이어 등이 축적되며, 임야 및 산림에서는 비료, 축분, 대기오염물질의 강하물 등이 축적이 되어 강우 시 빗물에 씻겨 인근 수계로 직접 방류된다. 팔당상수원 비점오염원 최적관리사업 기본계획 및 타당성조사사업이 실시되어 비점오염저감시설의 설치대상 대표지점이 선정되었다. 그리고 각 배수구역의 특성에 맞는 최적관리기술이 제시되었다. 하지만 몇몇 시설들은 기대한 결과에 못 미치는 성과를 내고 있다. 따라서 이번 연구에서는 이러한 비점오염저감시설의 시설형 중 하나인 와류형 비점오염저감시설의 운용에 따른 효율성 분석에 관한 연구를 실시하였다. 실험장치는 현재 운영되고 있는 와류형 비점오염저감시설 참고하여 실험장 조건에 맞춰 1/4축적의 정상모형을 제작하였고 저감시설로 유입되는 원수의 유량과 단차를 변화시켜 실험하였다. 저감시설의 유입조건이 변하게 되면 시설 내 유속, 체류시간 등 운전조건이 바뀌게 되므로 제거효율도 변하게 될 것이다. 저감효율산정은 시설로 유입된 유입수와 유출수의 SS농도를 이용하여 산정하였다. 와류형저감시설의 SS제거효율을 연구한 결과, 모형에서 유량 $0.0016m^3/s$, 단차 10cm 인 조건에서 8.7%로 가장 높은 효율이 측정되었다. 이를 원형에서의 조건으로 환산하면 유량 $0.0512m^3/s$, 고수조와 저감시설의 단차 40cm일 경우 가장 높은 효율이 나타난다. 이와 같은 이유는 시설에 유입되는 유량이 증가 할수록 내부의 유속이 증가해 저감시설 내 처리수의 체류시간 감소와 교란이 발생하여 저감효율이 떨어지는 것으로 사료된다.

Design and Environmental/Economic Performance Evaluation of Wastewater Treatment Plants Using Modeling Methodology (모델링 기법을 이용한 하수처리 공정 설계와 환경성 및 경제성 평가)

  • It is not easy to compare the treatment processes and find an optimum operating condition by the experiments due to influent conditions, treatment processes, various operational conditions and complex factors in real wastewater treatment system and also need a lot of time and costs. In this paper, the activated sludge models are applied to four principal biological wastewater treatment processes, $A_2O$(anaerobic/anoxic/oxic process), Bardenpho(4 steps), VIP(Virginia Initiative Plant) and UCT(University of Cape Town), and are used to compare their environmental and economic assessment for four key processes. In order to evaluate each processes, a new assessment index which can compare the efficiency of treatment performances in various processes is proposed, which considers both environmental and economic cost. It shows that the proposed index can be used to select the optimum processes among the candidate treatment processes as well as to find the optimum condition in each process. And it can find the change of economic and environmental index under the changes of influent flowrate and aerobic reaction size and predict the optimum index under various operation conditions.
