In the proposed algorithm, we calculate the temporal and spatial gradient value for each pixel value from tile differential filter, and estimate the optical flow which is used to decide the location and the size of the search region from the gradient values by least square optical flow algorithm. In particular, the proposed algorithm showed a excellent performance with fast and complex motion sequences. From the computer simulation for various motion characteristic sequences. The proposed algorithm shows a significant enhancement of PSNR over previous blocking matching algorithms.

  • Overhead line voltage of DC railway traction substations has rising or falling characteristics depending on the acceleration and regenerative braking of the subway train loads. The suppression of this irregular fluctuation of the line voltage gives rise to improved energy efficiency of both the railway substation and the trains. This paper presents parameter estimation schemes using the RC circuit model for an overhead line voltage at a 1500V DC electric railway traction substation. A linear artificial neural network with a back-propagation learning algorithm was trained using the measurement data for an overhead line voltage and four feeder currents. The least square estimation method was configured to implement batch processing of these measurement data. These estimation results have been presented and performance analysis has been achieved through raw data simulation.

  • Recently to overcome limitations of conceptual, hydrological and physics based models for flood stage forecasting, multiple linear regression model as one of data-driven models have been widely adopted for forecasting flood streamflow(stage). The objectives of this study are to compare performance of different multiple linear regression models according to regression coefficient estimation methods and determine most effective multiple linear regression flood stage forecasting models. To do this, the time scale was determined through the autocorrelation analysis of input data and different flood stage forecasting models developed using regression coefficient estimation methods such as LS(least square), WLS(weighted least square), SPW(stepwise) was applied to flood events in Jungrang stream. To evaluate performance of established models, fours statistical indices were used, namely; Root mean square error(RMSE), Nash Sutcliffe efficiency coefficient (NSEC), mean absolute error (MAE), adjusted coefficient of determination($R^{*2}$). The results show that the flood stage forecasting model using SPW(stepwise) parameter estimation can carry out the river flood stage prediction better in comparison with others, and the flood stage forecasting model using LS(least square) parameter estimation is also found to be slightly better than the flood stage forecasting model using WLS(weighted least square) parameter estimation.

  • Orbit error analysis was performed for the GPS navigation solutions and ground station tracking data of the KOMPSAT (Korea Multi-Purpose SATellite), which will be launched in 1999 for cartography of Korean peninsula as main mission. A least square method was used for the orbit determination and prediction error simulation including tracking data noises and dynamic modeling errors. It was found that a short-term periodic orbit determination error was caused by the tracking data noise and dominant orbit prediction error was caused by solar flux uncertainty.

  • The method that determines the appropriate damping factor is studied for a lens design. When suitable damping factor is applied to the additive damped least-squares (DLS) method, the convergence and the stability of the optimization process are examined in a triplet-type photographic lens design. We calculate eigenvalues of the product of the Jacobian matrix of error functions by using the singular value decomposition (SVD) method. We adopt the median of eigenvalues as an appropriate damping factor. The convergence and the stability of the optimization process are improved by choosing the adequate damping factor for the optimization of a photographic lens. It is known that the numerical inaccuracy in the calculation of normal equation is overcome by using the orthogonal transformations of the Jacobian matrix. Therefore, a combination of the method for setting a proper damping factor and the orthogonal transformations of the Jacobian matrix is good for application to the design of an aspheric lens with high-order terms. terms.

  • In the underwater acoustic systems. we can receive signals and retrieve information about a target by using a beamforming method. The most important thing in the beamforming is finding the way to optimize the mainlobe beamwidth and the sidelobe level to the desired value. One of the prominent results of beamforming method. which has been studied. is Philip's weighting function method(1) . Philip's method adaptively adjusts its weights of array to meet the desired mainlobe beamwidth and sidelobe level. It is very similar to the design method in adaptive filter. However. this method cannot easily bring us to the desired sidelobe level due to complementary relation between mainlobe beamwidth and sidelobe level. In this paper, we propose a new algorithm using partial constrained adaptation. This method makes us circumvent the above problem and meet the specification of design easily. The proposed algorithm presents a Pattern synthesis that designer can easily control the mainlobe beamwidth and the sidelobe level to the desired value while calculation time to converge is decreasing.

  • A recursive geometric adaptive control method to compensate for machining straightness error in the finished surface due to tool deflection and guideway error generated by end milling process is developed. The relationship between the tool deflection and the feedrate is modeled by a modified Taylor's tool life equation. Without a priori knowledge on the variations off cutting parameters, time varying parameters are then estimated by an exponentially windowed recursive least squares method with only post-process measurements of the straightness error. The location error is controlled by shifting the milling bed in the direction perpendicular to the finished surface and adding a certain amount of feedrate with respect to the tool deflection model before cutting. The waviness error is compensated by adjusting the feedrate during machining. Experimental results show that location error is controlled within a range of fixturing error of the bed on the guideway and that about 60% reduction in the waviness error can be achieved within a few steps of parameter adaption under wide operating ranges of cutting conditions even if the parameters do not converge to fixed values.

  • The noise of image is added by many environmental factors. Therefore, we need to remove these noises using the conventional filtering methods, which are optimized based on the statistical characteristic of noise. In direct restoration method, there is an inverse filter and the wiener filter. Here, the wiener filter is the optimized filter in the view of least square method. First, we are going to study the inverse filter, wiener filter, constraint least square filter. Second, in order to control the quantity, we use the parameters instead of the power spectrum ratio. But, these parameters have the conflicting condition, therefore, we optimized the variables using parametric wiener filter which adjust the application appropriately. In the simulation results, the contrast of the degraded image was enhanced and the noise was removed. Comparative experimentation was demonstrated edge preserving and noise removing property.
