Pathophysiology of Articular Cartilage Injury (관절 연골 손상의 병태 생리)

  • Injury of articular cartilage can be classified into acute injury and chronic degenerative osteoarthritis Acute mechanical trauma on articular cartilage causes injuries that are divided into three distinct types based on the depth of injury: microdamage, chondral fracture, osteochondral fracture and each type has different potential of healing response and long-term prognosis. Articular cartilage undergoes degradation in response to a number of stimuli and eventually degenerative osteoarthritic changes will progress. The extent of initial injury to the articular cartilage is the most important factor affecting the long-term outcome of the healing response and other variables such as the size of lesion, site, age, activity level, obesity, limb alignment are also important factors. In this review, the pathophysiology that occurs within articular cartilage after different injuries and the effect of nonsurgical treatment mainly in physicochemical aspect and biological aspect will be discussed.

A Selective Video Data Deletion Algorithm to Free Up Storage Space in Video Proxy Server (비디오 프록시 서버에서의 저장 공간 확보를 위한 선택적 동영상 데이터 삭제 알고리즘)

  • Video poxy server which is located near clients can store the frequently requested video data in storage space in order to minimize initial latency and network traffic significantly. However, due to the limited storage space in video proxy server, an appropriate deletion algorithm is needed to remove the old video data which is not serviced for a long time. Thus, we propose an efficient video data deletion algorithm for video proxy server. The proposed deletion algorithm removes the video which has the lowest request possibility based on the user access patterns. In our algorithm, we arrange the videos which are stored in video proxy server according to the requested time sequence and then, select the video which has the oldest requested time. The selected video is partially removed in order to free up storage space in video poky server. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm performs better than other algorithms in terms of the block hit rate and the number of block deletion.

A Study on the Search Interface of Archival Databases in Korea: With a Focus on Search Functions (고서목록 데이터베이스의 검색 인터페이스에 관한 연구 - 검색 기능을 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this study is to compare and analyze the functions and characteristics of search interfaces of Korean Old and Rare Collection Information System(KORCIS) and Korean History Online. The checklist of OPAC functionalities proposed by Breeding was used to examine eleven functions of these systems. Both system provide the following functions: Search by keywords; Boolean operators in queries; Order results chronologically; Modify search without re-keying the initial terms ; Search within result sets ; and Ability to limit results to an individual library or education. They do not provide such functions as Browse by author, title, subject and View and recall the search history for the current session. Adoption of standard OPAC and next-generation catalog functionalities, in-depth understanding of user needs and information seeking behaviors, and the improvement of subject access to these systems are suggested in this study.

Active Shape Model-based Objectionable Image Detection (활동적 형태 모델을 이용한 유해영상 탐지)

  • In this paper, we propose a new method for detecting objectionable images with an active shape model. Our method first learns the shape of breast lines through principle component analysis and alignment as well as the distribution of intensity values of corresponding landmarks, and then extracts breast lines with the learned shape and intensity distribution. To accurately select the initial position of active shape model, we obtain parameters on scale, rotation, and translation. After positioning the initial location of active shape model using scale and rotation information, iterative searches are performed. We can identify adult images by calculating the average of the distance between each landmark and a candidate breast line. The experiment results show that the proposed method can detect adult images effectively by comparing various results.

  • According to Korean Ministry of Land, Transportation and Maritime Affairs, total national SOC(Social Overhead Capital) stock comes up to 500 billion dollars. Until now, although the construction of SOC is more important than the maintenance of them in Korea, it is necessary to introduce of valuation based total asset management concept in nowadays. In this paper describes problems of exsiting data collection method, needs of Information Technology and introduction of RFID/USN(Radio Frequency IDentification/Ubiquitous Sensor Network) in data collection stage.

  • 3D registration is a computer vision technique of aligning multi-view range images with respect to a reference coordinate system. Various 3D registration algorithms have been introduced in the past few decades. Iterative Closest Point (ICP) is one of the widely used 3D registration algorithms, where various modifications are available nowadays. In the ICP-based algorithms, the closest points are considered as the corresponding points. However, this assumption fails to find matching points accurately when the initial pose between point clouds is not sufficiently close. In this paper, we propose a new method to solve this problem using the 6D distance (3D color space and 3D Euclidean distances). Moreover, a color segmentation-based adaptive sampling technique is used to reduce the computational time and improve the registration accuracy. Several experiments are performed to evaluate the proposed method. Experimental results show that the proposed method yields better performance compared to the conventional methods.

  • Spin reorientation and magnetocrystalline anisotropy of magnetically aligned $(Nd_{1-x}R_x)_2Fe_{14}B$ (R=Y, Pr) power were studied. The spin reorientation temperature $(T_{SR})$ of $(Nd_{1-x}R_x)_2Fe_{14}B$ decreases linearly by increasing Pr-substitution with the ratio of ${\Delta}T_{SR}=-1.35$ K/Pr at.% in composition range of 0$\leq$x$\leq$0.75. The spin reorientation temperature of $(Nd_{1-x}R_x)_2Fe_{14}B$ decreases by increasing Pr-substitution to 118 K (x=0.5) then increases to 122 K (x=0.75). The spin reorientation angle at 4.2 K decreases by increasing rare earth substitution with the ratio of $\Delta$SRA=-0.073$^{\circ}$/Y at.% and $\Delta$SRA=-0.258$^{\circ}$/Pr at.% in composition range of 0$\leq$x$\leq$0.5. The spin reorientation is expected to disappear at x$\geq$0.9 in case of $(Nd_{1-x}R_x)_2Fe_{14}B$ and at x$\geq$0.8 in case of $(Nd_{1-x}R_x)_2Fe_{14}B$.

Automatic Object Recognition in 3D Measuring Data (3차원 측정점으로부터의 객체 자동인식)

  • Automatic object recognition in 3D measuring data is of great interest in many application fields e.g. computer vision, reverse engineering and digital factory. In this paper we present a software tool for a fully automatic object detection and parameter estimation in unordered and noisy point clouds with a large number of data points. The software consists of three interactive modules each for model selection, point segmentation and model fitting, in which the orthogonal distance fitting (ODF) plays an important role. The ODF algorithms estimate model parameters by minimizing the square sum of the shortest distances between model feature and measurement points. The local quadric surface fitted through ODF to a randomly touched small initial patch of the point cloud provides the necessary initial information for the overall procedures of model selection, point segmentation and model fitting. The performance of the presented software tool will be demonstrated by applying to point clouds.

큰 알루미늄 덩어리 증착(large aluminum cluster deposition)에 관한 분자동력학 시뮬레이션

  • Yamada 등의 덩어리 증착에 관한 연구 이후 낮은 기판 온도에서 결정성이 뛰어난 금속박막성장(thin film growth)을 얻을 수 있는 방법으로 최근 덩어리 증착(cluster depositon) 방법에 관하여 많은 연구들이 진행되어 덩어리 충돌이 원자 충돌인 경우와 큰 차이를 보이는 결과를 얻었으며, 덩어리 증착시 기판 내부에 점결함(point defect)이 발생되지 않는다는 중요한 결과를 얻었다. 금속 덩어리를 사용한 금속박막성장은 높은 박막성장속도와 뛰어난 구조 재배열 효과를 얻을 수 있으며 기판의 격자 손상을 감소시키기 때문에 향후 나노미터 소자 개발에 응용성이 클 것으로 예상된다. 그러나 금속 덩어리와 금속 표면사이의 상호작용에서 발생되는 기본적인 역학(mechanism)은 분명하게 알려져 있지 않다. 지금까지 알루미늄 덩어리의 원자구조와 특성에 관한 연구는 수행되어졌지만 (4,5), 알루미늄 덩어리 증착에 관한 연구는 수행되지 않았다. 본 연구에서는 13~177개로 이루어진 큰 알루미늄 덩어리들의 증착에 관하여 Md(molecular dynamics) 방법을 사용하여 연구하였다. MD 시뮬레이션을 사용하여 덩어리 증착시 기판 표면과의 충돌 초기에 나타나는 덩어리 내부 원자들의 상관충돌효과(correlated collisions effect)에 의하여 덩어리 크기에 따른 증착현상과 여러 물리적 현상들을 관찰하였다. 덩어리 총 에너지가 증가할수록 기판의 최고 온도는 증가하며, 덩어리 크기가 클수록 상관충돌효과가 커지기 때문에 덩어리의 총 에너지에 다른 최고 증가 비율은 적어졌다. 시간에 따른 비정렬 원자수(disordered atom number) 비교를 통하여 덩어리가 클수록 구조 재배열이 더 잘 이루어진다는 것을 알 수 있었고, 원자당 에너지가 클수록 덩어리 원자들이 기판 내부로 더 깊이 들어갔고, 덩어리 크기가 클수록 상관충돌효과로 인하여 덩어리 원자들이 기판 내부로 더 깊이 들어가는 것을 알 수 있었고, 덩어리 크기가 클수록 상관충돌효과는 커지고 더욱 부드러운 증착이 이루어졌으며, 무엇보다도 덩어리 증착시 표면에서 구조 재배열이 잘 이루어지는 특징을 살펴볼 수 있었다. 이러한 알루미늄 덩어리를 생성하여 증착할 수 있을 경우, 뛰어난 재배열 효과를 이용하여 품질이 향상된 반도체 소자를 제조할 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.

  • Currently, urban areas face congestion problems that diminish personal mobility and freight-transport productivity. An increasing number of experts suggest that separating freight traffic from passenger traffic makes sense in terms of economics, the environment, and safety. Some experts suggest that tube transportation is the solution. The objective of this paper is to evaluate the potential benefits and limitations of tube transportation system as a viable mode of transport that can alleviate congestion on roadways. Specifically, this research employs theoretical and practical method identifying, evaluating, and selecting appropriate freight pipeline systems; evaluating the technical and economic feasibility of tube transportation; and estimating environmental, energy, and safety benefits.
