The Runoff Characteristics of Non-point Pollution Sources in Industrial Complex(II): Focusing on the Outflow Characteristics of the C Industrial Complex by Rainfall Event (산업단지 비점오염원의 유출특성(II): C산업단지의 강우사상별 유출특성을 중심으로)

  • In this study, rainfall water outlet water quality monitoring was performed on the C industrial complex to evaluate the characteristics of non-point pollutant runoff from the industrial complex during rainfall and to use it as basic data for calculating the load and unit of non-point pollutant. As a result of calculating EMC according to the outflow amount by rainfall event, the 1st rainfall showed EMCs ranges of BOD, CODMn, SS, T-N, and T-P of 1.32~48.76, 3.32~43.75, 2.89~199.43, 2.76~8.93, 0.08~068, and the 2nd rainfall was 0.5~2.9, 2.71~7.13, 2.82~174.94, 1.33~4.03, 0.01~1.28 mg/L, respectively. As a result of calculating the ratio of cumulative outflow and cumulative pollution load, most of the pollution load was less than the rainfall outflow, but over time, the initial washing phenomenon occurred as the ratio of cumulative rainfall outflow and cumulative pollution load increased to more than 1.

Determination of EMC and MFFn Rainfall Runoff in Songcheon, Doam Lake Watershed (도암호 유역 송천에서의 강우유출수 분석을 통한 EMC와 초기세척비율 (MFFn) 산정)

  • The Doam Lake watershed has a significant impact on the downstream water system due to nutrients and sediment outflow during rainfall caused by steep slopes, soil losses, and fertilization. These non-point sources are unclear in the discharge area and are affected by land use patterns, soil characteristics, and topographical features of the watershed. Therefore, this study conducted rainfall monitoring from July to October 2019 in Songcheon upstream of the Doam Lake watershed, one of the non-point pollution source management areas. Then, after analyzing rainfall runoff, Event Mean Concentration (EMC) and Mass First Flush ratio (MFFn) were calculated to compare and analyze the characteristics of rainfall and the non-point pollutant discharge. As a result of the analysis, it showed various non-point pollutant emission characteristics for each rainfall event. In addition, the concentration of EMC and the MFFn were affected by the average rainfall intensity and the maximum rainfall intensity, and were not significantly affected by the number of antecedent drying days. In the future, it is expected that effective non-point source reduction measures and management measures according to rainfall intensity through continuous monitoring and analysis will be needed.

The Estimating MFFn by SWMM in The Transportation Area (SWMM 모형을 활용한 도로 형태별 초기세척비율 산정)

  • The MFFn(Mass First Flush) was analyzed for various rainy events(monitoring data from 2008 to 2009) in Transportation area(Highway, National road, Trunk road). Estimated MFFn using SWMM was evaluated by comparison with observed MFFn. MFFn was estimated by varying n-value from 10% to 90% on the rainy events. The n-value increases, MFFn is closed to '1'. As time passed, the rainfall runoff was getting similar to ratio of pollutants accumulation. The result of a measure of the strength of the linear relationship between observed data and expected data under model was good ($R^2$=0.89). Pollutants runoff loads by volume showed Highway 26.6%, National road 44.8%, Trunk road 35.0% at the MFF20(20% by total runoff). A case of MFF30, pollutants runoff loads by volume showed Highway 40.2%, National road 54.3%, Trunk road 46.8%. According to the results, Initial precipitation basis were Highway MFF30, National road MFF20, Trunk road MFF30 when the Non-Point source control facilities set up.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the optimal conditions for meat paste production with sardine. To improve the gel forming ability of meat paste, washing time and condition with alkaline solution, setting time and temperature, and heating temperature before pasteurization were controlled, and the influences of the freshness of raw sardine and the mixing ratios of ordinary and dark muscles on the duality of the meat paste product were discussed. The frozen storage showed a predominant effect on keeping freshness of raw sardine at different storage conditions and gel forming ability was maintained for 1 day at ice storage, for 3 days at $-3^{\circ}C$ and for 4 days at frozen condition, but there was no effect on keeping freshness of raw sardine in the storage at $25^{\circ}C$. Gel strength of meat paste product tended to decrease with washing time of raw meat, and in case of washing 3 times the meat appeared excellent in gel strength, but in case of seven and nine times the meat showed lower water holding capacity and decreased organoleptic test score in the quality of meat paste prtoduct. Raw meat washed with alkaline solution showed a desirable effect on gel forming ability compared with that washed with tap water, and in the case of washed with $0.5\%$ sodium bicarbonate solution exhibited the most favorable effect on gel forming. The gel strength of the meat paste product decreased with the increase of mixing ratios of dark muscle in the raw meat. Setting time and temperature for the gel forming ability of meat paste were good at $5^{\circ}C$ for 20 hours and at $20^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours. In the heating temperature of meat paste, heating treatment at $90^{\circ}C$ was desirable for gel forming.

Back Flushing Behavior of Microfiltration Membrane Fouled by Alumna Colloidal Suspensions (알루미나 현탁액에 의해 오염된 정밀여과막의 역세척 거동)

  • Effect of backflushing on the membrane fouling for polyethylene capillary membranes was examined by measuring the flux of $Al_2O_3$ colloidal suspensions through the cross flow microfiltration. In the comparison of with and without the application of backflushing, the hydraulic resistance to permeate flow of the suspension was less with backfluslng, but the Increasing rate in permeate resistance was higher. Regardless of backflushing, the cake filtration was dominant at the initial period of filtration with backflushing, being followed by the pore blocking. And at steady state, the fouling mechanism is almost governed by the cake filtration model. On the contrary, the pore blocking preceded the cake filtration in the initial stage of the original membrane before backflushing. And irrespective of backflushing, the ratio of cake filtration to total fouling increased, compared with that fur before backflushing. For the membrane with $0.24{\mu}m$ pore size, the permeate resistance was higher than that of $0.34{\mu}m$ pore size membrane. but the ratio of cake filtration was smaller than that of large pore membrane. In comparing the ratio of each fouling component to the total fouling for the case with backflushing pore blocking was 7.8% and cake filtration was 92.2%. for the case without backflushing, total fouling was composed of 9.6% pore blocking and 90.4% cake filtration.

MCC 입자의 표면화학적 특성에 따른 부유부상 효과

  • 부유부상 공정은 현재 신문고지와 사무용 고지의 탈묵을 통한 신문용지 및 화장지 제조 에 널리 사용되고 있는 고지재활용을 위한 핵심공정이다. 하지만 이들 공정은 갈수록 열악 해지는 국내 고지원료의 품질변화에 따라서 잉크 및 토너의 분리효율이 저하되고 있어 생산 되는 탈묵 펄프의 품질저하, 리젝트 발생량의 증대, 폐수 처리공정의 부하 증가 등 다양한 문제점을 발생시키고 있어 이에 대한 대책의 수립이 시급히 요청되고 있다. 현재와 같이 다양한 형태의 잉크 및 인쇄방식으로 인쇄된 많은 종류의 재활용지가 원료 로 투입되고 있는 경우 탈묵공정의 효율 향상을 위해서는 부유부상 공정에 대한 좀 더 체계 적이고 논리적인 접근이 필요하다. 이러한 문제점을 극복하기 위해 먼저 고지 재활용 공정 의 핵심 단위공정인 부유부상 공정에 관련된 복잡한 문제점을 단순화하여 고상 및 액상의 표면화학적 특성을 평가하고, 이에 따른 부유부상 공정의 효율을 분석하였다. 본 연구에서는 부유부상 공정을 기초과학적 측면에서 구명하기 위해 마이크로 크리스탈린 셀룰로오스(Microcrystalline cellulose: MCC)를 모델 물질로 사용하였고, 친수성 의 표면 특 성을 나타내는 MCC의 표면 특성을 바꾸기 위하여 AKD(alkyl ketene dimer)로 처리비율을 달리하여 사이징 처리하였다. 부유부상 실험에 사용된 MCC는 친수성을 띠는 것과 소수성 을 부여한 것을 구별하고 그 비율을 백색도를 통해 측정하기 위하여 자체적으로 친수성을 가지는 MCC는 세척 견뢰도가 높은 검은색 염료로 염색하였다. 준비된 친수성과 소수성 M MCC의 혼합비율 별로 패드를 작성하여 백색도를 측정함으로써 검량선을 작성하였다. 또한 부유부상 시간에 따른 제거효율을 알아보기 위하여 부유부상 시간별로 각각의 리젝트율과 수율올 측정하고, 리젝트 시료로부터 패드를 제조하여 백색도를 측정하였다. 실험 결과 소수성 MCC의 소수화 정도에 따라서 리젝트율이 증가하였으며, 이를 통해 표 면에 소수성을 띠는 입자는 소수성이 강할수록 부유부상공정에서 제거율이 증가한다는 것을 확인하였다. 부유부상 처리한 MCC로 패드를 제조한 뒤 백색도를 비교한 결과에서도 이를 확인하였다. 한편 리젝트로 함께 제거된 MCC 내에 존재하는 친수성 MCC의 양은 극히 미 세하였다. 또한 부유부상를 실시하는 초기에 상당량의 리젝트가 발생함을 확인하였는데, 이 는 전체 부유부상을 통해 제거되는 양의 45-68%였다. 한편 부유부상이 진행됨에 따라서 리젝트 양의 증가폭이 둔화되는 경향을 나타내었다. 이러한 경향은 MCC의 소수성이 강할 수록 더욱 뚜렷하게 나타났다. 이를 통해 계 내로부터 소수성인 물질이 급속하게 제거됨을 알 수 있었으며 필요 이상의 부유부상 처리는 잉크제거 효율을 높일 수는 있으나 소모되는 시간에 비하여 비효과적임을 알 수 있었다.

Characterization of Stormwater Runoff according to Sewer System in Paldang Watershed (하수도 시스템 유무에 따른 강우유출특성 분석 - 팔당호 유역을 대상으로)

  • The characterization of stormwater runoff from mix land-use catchments with an inadequate sewer network is a challenge. This study focused on characterizing stormwater runoff from the Paldang watershed area based on land-use type and sewer system coverage. A total of 76 sites were monitored during wet weather from seven different counties within Paldang watershed. Public sewer system (PSS) was installed at 48 sites, while 28 sites had no or individual sewer system (ISS) coverage. The results indicated that the sites included in the ISS group with higher forest and paddy land-use percentage exhibit higher values of average event mean concentrations (EMCs) and first flush intensity for suspended solids (SS), total nitrogen (TN), and total phosphorous (TP). In addition, upgrading runoff interception system can capture 59 % of the TP load in the first 43% of runoff within these sites. Similarly, rainfall depth and storm duration showed a positive correlation (R > 0.6) with nutrient loads within ISS group sites, as compared to PSS group. Therefore, these sites are likely to contribute higher TP and TN loads during heavier storm events and should be selected as priority management areas to combat the problem of eutrophication in Paldang reservoir.

Changes in Quality Characteristics of Wild Root Vegetables during Storage (전처리 근채류의 저장과정중의 품질평가)

  • During the peeling, cutting, and shredding of wild root vegetables, the surface is exposed to air. This results in a rapid deterioration in quality and an increase in the potential of contamination by microorganisms, both of which reduce the shelf-life of wild root vegetables in retail markets. Thus, in this study, the effects of various washing treatments on the quality of wild root vegetables, including lotus root, burdock root, and bellflower root, were investigated at 10 and $24^{\circ}C$. Lotus root, burdock root and bellflower root were washed with 0.2% acetic acid (AA), 0.2% citric acid (CA), 500 ppm acidified sodium chlorite (ASC), and tap water (TW), which was used as a control, and stored at $10^{\circ}C$ and $24^{\circ}C$. The changes in total plate counts, coliform groups, polyphenol oxidase (PPO) activity, color, pH, and exterior appearance of the samples were then evaluated. The pH and initial microbial contamination levels were reduced when the root vegetables were washed with AA, CA, and ASC. In particular, initial population levels of total plate counts and coliform groups were not detected in lotus root and burdock root that had been washed with ASC and their growth was significantly (p<0.05) inhibited during storage at 10 and $24^{\circ}C$ when compared to the control (TW). In addition, the polyphenol oxidase (PPO) activities of the root vegetables washed with AA, CA and ASC were lower than that of root vegetables washed with TW. ASC was determined to be the most effective treatment for preventing microbial growth, tissue softening, and the development of browning and an unpleasant smell. At $10^{\circ}C$, the overall qualities of the wild root vegetables were maintained longer when compared to $24^{\circ}C$.

Survival and Development of Porcine Embryos Produced in vitro Using Open Pulled Straw Methods (돼지에서 Open Pulled Straw(OPS) 방법에 의해 동결-융해한 수정란의 생존능력)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of vitrification in open pulled straws (OPS) methods on in vitro survival ability of porcine embryos. For in vitro maturation of immature oocytes, the porcine ovaries were collected from local slaughter-house. The cumulus-oocytes complexes were aspirated from 2 to 6 mm follicles. The collected oocytes were cultured for in vitro maturation in NCSU-23 medium with 5 mM hypotaurine, 0.57 mM cysteine, 10% porcine follicle fluid, 10 IU/ml PMSG and 10 IU/ml hCG for $21{\sim}22$ hrs. Then, the oocytes were more cultured $21{\sim}22$ hrs in vitro maturation in medium removed hormones. The frozen-thawed spermatozoa were washed by centrifugation 2 times for 10 min at 1,500 rpm in D-PBS with 5.56 mM glucose, 0.33 mM Na-pyruvate, 100 IU/ml penicillin, $100 {\mu}g/ml$ streptomycin and 4 mg/ml BSA. The fertilization medium used mTBM with 2 mM caffeine and 2 mg/ml BSA and adjusted to a pH of 7.2 to 7.4. The final concentration of spermatozoa was adjusted to $2.5{\times}10^6$cells/ml motile sperm during fertilization in vitro. At 8 hrs after insemination, the oocytes were transferred into NCSU-23 medium with 5.0 mM hypotaurine, 4 mg/ml BSA and 10 ng/ml EGF and cultured for 7 days. When the blastocysts of different stages were frozen-thawed by OPS methods, the proportions of embryos with normal morphology were significantly (p<0.05) higher in embryos frozen-thawed at expanded blastocyst stage (38.9%) than in early blastocyst stage (28.3%). On the other hand, the proportions of embryos damaged after frozen-thawing were significantly (p<0.05) higher in embryos frozen at early blastocyst stages than in expanded blastocyst stage. In another experiment, the normal embryos morphology after frozen- thawing were further cultured for 48 hrs. After culture, the proportions of embryos hatched were 6.7, 20.0 and 33.3% for embryos frozen-thawed at early blastocyst, mid-blastocyst and expanded blastocyst stages. These finding indicate the possible broader application for OPS methods, as frozen-thawed embryos may be accompanied by developmental stage according to requirements of the survival ability after freezing of blastocyst stage in the pig.

A Water Quality Modeling Study of Chunggye Stream during Combined Sewer OverFlow Period (합류식 하수관거 월류수 유입 기간 동안에 나타나는 청계천 수질 변화 모델 연구)

  • A water quality modeling study was performed for Chunggye stream during combined sewer overflow(CSO) period, utilizing the diagnostic system for water management in small watershed, CREEK-1(Cyber River for Environment and Economy in Korea). This system integrated geogaphic information system, data base, landscape ecological model(FRAGSTATS), watershed model(SWMM), water quality model (WASP5), and computer graphic. In this study, the watershed model and water quality model were extensively utilized so as to simulate water qualities and flow in Chunggye stream during wet periods. The Chunggye stream watershed was divided into 18 sub-basins in the watershed model and the stream reach into 11 segments in the water quality model. The watershed model was validated against field measurements of BOD, TN, TP, and flow at the downstream location, where the model results showed a reasonable agreement with the field measurements at all parameters. From this study, it was shown that the stream water quality would change along with elapsed time from rainfall start as well as rainfall intensity. The model results indicated that the water quality would significantly upgrade due to the first flush and high sewage ratio of CSO at the beginning of rainfall event, but become degraded along with the runoff increase due to dilution effect.
