This study applied an original survey of an objective National Health Nutriment Research. It picked the youth up from 14 years old to 19 years old and examined an influence relationship of four heads such as DT, DI, DMFT, DMFI which investigated in heads of dental inspections based on an intake frequency questionnaire by food group. It was proved that Korean dietary culture which eats rice and kimchi as staple food had an great effect on DT, DI, DMFT, DMFI And rice and cereals, fruits and vegetables like a cabbage turned out to be factors that can lower dental caries. The dental caries can be reduced by the more intake frequency of rice. And also, intake of fish like anchovy and meats like pork and beef can reduce development of dental caries too. Especially, the larger intake frequency of carbonated drinks and fast food such as hamburger and pizza can make a growth of dental caries.
Objectives: This study aimed to determine whether adolescents with allergic rhinitis are at an increased risk of stomatitis and to ascertain possible sex-specific differences. Methods: The data for this cross-sectional study was obtained from the 18th Korea Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey (2022). Of the 56,213 students surveyed, 51,850 (boys 26,397 and girls 25,453) were included in the final analyses. Multivariate logistic regression was performed to identify the impact of allergic rhinitis on the risk of stomatitis among Korean adolescents. Results: In Model II, which was adjusted for allergic disease, boys with allergic rhinitis had a 1.53-fold (adjusted odds ratio [aOR]=1.53, 95% confidence interval [CI]=1.40-1.67), and girls had a 1.35-fold (aOR=1.35, CI=1.25-1.46) elevated risk of stomatitis than in those without. In Model III, after adjusting for all covariates, boys with allergic rhinitis had a 1.48-fold (aOR=1.48, CI=1.36-1.62) elevated risk of stomatitis than in those without, and girls had a 1.32-fold (aOR=1.32, CI=1.22-1.43) elevated risk, which remained statistically significant after adjusting for covariates. Therefore, allergic rhinitis in adolescents exerts a detrimental effect on the risk of experiencing stomatitis symptoms; the risk was higher in boys than in girls. Conclusions: These findings suggest that oral health care attention and intervention are needed for adolescents with allergic rhinitis.

The purpose of this study was to investigate trends in dental sedation of Korean children and adolescents. A retrospective study was conducted on patients under 20 years of age who received dental treatment under sedation using National Health Insurance Service-National Sample Cohort Database from 2002 to 2015. Based on the 1 million standard data, there were 436 cases of dental treatment under sedation in 2002, but 4002 cases in 2015, showing a trend increasing every year. The 3 - 5 year old group accounted for the largest portion (54.2%), while the 6 - 8 year old group increased recently. Nitrous oxide inhalation sedation is the most commonly used, accounting for 45.9% in 2002, but increased to 89.5% in 2015. Combination of nitrous oxide inhalation sedation, chloralhydrate and hydroxyzine was the most common, accounting for 5.7% in 2002, but decreased to 2.9% in 2015. There is a trend to use the sedation method more safely and in a way that reduces side effects.

It is a trend that carbonated drink intake among adolescents is increasing, which makes young people more vulnerable to dental erosion. However, in Korea, public knowledge about dental erosion is very insufficient. The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of dental erosion and to assess its risk indicators among 13-15 years old students in Yangsan, Korea. A total of 1,371 adolescents were examined by one calibrated clinician. Dental erosion was assessed by using the Visual Erosion Dental Examination system. Correlation between their dietary habit, oral hygiene and dental erosion was assessed. The data showed that 676 (49.3%) adolescents had dental erosion. The prevalence of dental erosion was significantly higher in females than in males. The prevalence of tooth erosion in mandible is higher than in maxilla. Dental erosion was generalized to develop mostly on anterior teeth, especially lateral incisor, however, the severity score was highest in canines. Following questionnaire analysis, dental erosion was significantly associated with milk and flavored milk. No other associations were detected. The prevalence of dental erosion in this study is higher than those of previous reports. On the contrary to previously reported studies, the prevalence of dental erosion in females is higher than in males.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to identify the main variables of difference in high school students' oral health promotion behaviors among adolescents and to improve their academic and oral health promotion behaviors. Methods : The research subjects consisted of 311 high school students in Jeonju. Results : The adequacy of the hypothetical model accounted for 46.9 % of the oral health promotion behavior. The Redundancy of all variables showed the value of the positive values, indicating that the Goodness of fit was greater than the optimum value of the model, and the model of the PLS was a desirable model. The effects of perceived benefits, self efficacy, and social support on oral health promotion behaviors were found to be higher in oral health promotion behaviors. Conclusions : This study is expected to have a significant impact on the perception of the oral health promotion for adolescents in the future and will contribute to the expansion and generalization of Pender's oral health promotion model.
The purpose was to examine the factors related to subjective poor oral health in middle school and high school adolescents using data from '2019 Youth Health Behavior Online Survey'. Independent variables related to sociodemographic status and oral health related behaviors were the following:gender, grade, household economy, academic achievement, residence, frequency of daily and after lunch toothbrushing, smocking, alcohol, annual dental visit and preventive treatment. Almost all variables revealed a significant difference in poor oral health among boys and girls in school except resident area of girls and annual dental visit of boys. The odds ratios of subjective poor oral health were as follows:the highest ORs was subjective household economy and the second was frequency of daily toothbrushing in boys. The highest ORs was subjective household economy and the second was subjective academic achievement in girls.

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to identify the extent of the health behaviors of juveniles with experience in drug and the extent of their oral health behaviors. Then the impact of such factors on the oral health was analyzed. Methods: The analysis in this study used the raw data from 'The Fifth Korea Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey' after getting approval for use from the Center for Disease Control. The research subjects of this study were juveniles with experience in drug. Analysis was done by using 8 socio-demographic variables, 6 health behaviors related variables, 4 oral-health behaviors related variables and 1 oral health related variable. All survey data were analyzed by SPSS WIN 17.0 program. as frequency analysis and logistic regression. Results: The factors that give impact on the oral health of juveniles with drug experience were found as: gender, academic year, study grade, school type, school class, city scale, economic status, residential type, experience in alcohol, experience in smoking, obesity, frequency of medium-level physical exercise, eating breakfast frequency, hours of sleeping, number of tooth-brushing in one day, brushing teeth after lunch frequency, experience in dental treatment and experience in oral health training. Conclusions: In order to improve the oral health of juveniles with drug experience, health behaviors such as stop-smoking, stop-drinking and regular physical exercise are recommended. In addition, they should stop using drugs that threats their oral health. The development of nursing intervention to maintain the continuous enhancement of their oral health is also required.
Objectives : This study examined the influence of socio-demographic, health-related, and oral health-related characteristics on adolescent DMFTs. Methods : The subjects in this study were 1,129 adolescents selected from the 6th national health and nutrition examination survey data. To determine the factors influencing dental caries, a regression analysis using a complex-sample generalized linear model was conducted after adjusting for confounding factors. Results : DMFTs were smaller among boys than girls, and smaller in the "13-15 age group" than in the "16-18 age group." In terms of household income, DMFTs were larger in the "lower," "lower-middle," and "upper-middle" income brackets than in the "upper" income bracket. DMFTs were smaller among adolescents with a history of smoking than those who had never smoked. Conclusions : In order to improve the oral health of adolescents, oral health-promotion programs should be provided for girls, high school students, students from low-income families, smokers, and those who consider themselves to have poor oral health.
This study surveyed 57,303 teenagers using the 15th (2019) online Juvenile Health Behavior survey data to understand the relationship between oral health behavior, mental health, and smoking. The results of analyzing the factors affecting smoking experience are as follows: The smoking rate was higher in men (p<0.001), in a lower academic ability (p<0.001), and in moderate economic status was moderate (p<0.001). The smoking rate was higher in 2 or less brushing frequency (p<0.001), in no brushing before going to bed (p<0.001), in no brushing aftger lunch (p<0.001), in no experience of oral health education (p<0.001), and when the subjests felt unhealty in oral health (p<0.001). The smoking rate was significantly higher in those who experienced a lot of stress (p<0.001) and feelings of depression (p<0.001). The odds ratio for smoking was 1.44 when not brushing teeth before bedtime, 0.76 in experience of oral health education, and 1.29 in unhealthy subjective oral health. The odds ratio for smoking was 0.91 in no stress and 1.85 in depression. Since oral behavior and mental health affect smoking, intervening with these factors is necessary to quit smoking.
