The objective of this study was to investigate the relationship between health-risk factors and oral health in Korean adolescents. This cross-sectional study was based on the 9th Korea Youth Risk Behavior Web-Based Survey (2013). The final participation rate in the survey was 96.4%. of a Total of 72,435 adolescents (age, 12~18 years) who had participated in the survey, 66,951 adolescents (33,777 boys and 33,174 girls) were selected for analysis, after excluding those with missing data. The key variables were oral health factors (one or more of the six oral symptoms), general characteristics (five factors), and health-risk factors (five factors). After adjusting for the general characteristics, frequency analysis, ${\chi}^2-test$ using PASW Statistics ver. 18.0, and logistic regression analysis were performed to understand the effects of health risk-factors on the oral symptoms experienced by the study subjects. Subjects who answered 'Yes' for alcohol consumption had a 1.33 times higher risk of experiencing oral symptoms. Further, subjects who smoked were at a 1.2 times higher risk of experiencing oral symptoms. With regard to internet use, the risk of experiencing oral symptoms was 1.25 times higher for subjects who used the internet for 7 hours or more than for those who used it for less than 1 hour. Compared to those subjects who had not experienced violence in school, the odds ratio of subjects who had experienced it 3~4 times was 1.54-fold higher. The study found that health-risk factors were associated with oral symptom experience. Therefore, programs to understand health-risk factors and interventions should be developed for Korean adolescents and provided on a regular basis along with oral health education.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between sleep timing and depressive mood in Korean adolescents. Methods: The study analyzed the data from the 2007~2015 Korea Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey. A total of 541,693 students in grades 7~12 were included in the final analysis. Multivariable logistic regression was used to examine their sleep timing and depressive mood, adjusted for sex, grade, region, socioeconomic status, academic performance, alcohol, smoking and physical activity. Sleep duration and sleep quality were also included in our model to identify whether or not the effect of sleep timing on depression is mediated by sleep duration or sleep quality. Results: The prevalence of depressive mood was 32.7% and the mean sleep timing was 12:13 AM. After adjustment for eligible covariates, the association between sleep timing and depressive mood showed a J-shaped curve. Adolescents who slept at 8 pm~10 pm were 39% more likely to be depressive (OR = 1.39, 95% CI 1.30~1.40) and at 3 am~ 4 am were 67% more likely to be depressive (OR=1.67, 95% CI 1.64~1.70) than adolescents who slept at 11 pm~12 am. These associations persisted after being adjusted for sleep duration and sleep quality. Conclusion: Sleep timing was related to depression in adolescents, independent of sleep duration and sleep quality. It appears that there is a certain sleep timing beneficial to mental health of adolescents.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the association between sexual intercourse and experience of alcohol, tobacco, and drugs use among adolescents in South Korea. Methods: This study used the data of the Korea Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey from 2010 through 2014. The subjects of this study were 367,562 students (Male 187,610, Female 179,952). The subjects' general characteristics and their sexual experiences according to their general characteristics were analyzed using frequency analysis. The relationship between sexual intercourse and the use of alcohol, tobacco, and drugs was analyzed through multiple logistic regression. The analyses were conducted using SPSS 18.0. Results: According to the study, the significant predictors of sexual intercourse were gender, grade, parents' educational level, residence type, economic status, and substance abuse. Adolescents who had used alcohol, tobacco, and drugs were more likely to have had sexual intercourse than their peers who hadn't use the substances. Conclusion: The results suggest that factors that increase the risk of having premature sex should be managed and prevented systematically. Among the factors, in particular, drinking, smoking, and drug use require intensive management.
Purpose: This study aims to investigate the association between suicidal thoughts and the co-occurrence of alcohol, tobacco, and drug use among adolescents. Methods: This study used the data of the Korea Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey from 2008 through 2014. The subjects of this study were 517,866 students, in total (Male 266,500, Female 251,366). Frequency analysis was conducted on the data about the subjects' general characteristics and their experience of smoking, drinking, and drug use. The relationship between suicidal thoughts and the co-occurrence of alcohol, tobacco, and drug use was analyzed through ${\chi}^2-test$ and logistic regression. The analyses were done using SAS 9.4. Results: According to the study, adolescents who used alcohol, cigarettes, and drugs at the same time engaged in suicidal ideation 3.69 times more than their peers who didn't use such substances (95% CI: 3.40~4.00, p<.001). Also, adolescents who used only tobacco, only alcohol, and only drugs engaged in suicidal ideation 1.49 times (95% CI: 1.43~1.56, p<.001), 1.28 times (95% CI: 1.26~1.31, p<.001) and 2.34 times (95% CI: 2.04~2.69, p<.001) more than the students who didn't use any substances, respectively. Conclusion: Adolescents' suicidal ideation and the co-occurrence of alcohol, tobacco, and drug use had a statistically significant relationship.

The purpose of this study was to examine how socio-demographic characteristics and delinquent behaviors affect the suicidal ideation among the Korean high school students. Using the 35,668 senior high school student cases of 2009 Korean Youth Health Risk Behavior On-line Survey data, it conducted a secondary data analysis. Frequency analysis, chi-square test and logistic regression analysis was done. Being female, living without parents, low economic status, poor academic record, technical school students, young students, poor academic record, internet addition, problem drinking, smoking cigarettes and experience of drug use significantly increased probability of their suicidal thoughts. Findings may be used for tackle the issues of suicidal thoughts among the Korean senior high school students.
Purpose: This study aimed to analyze the health education conducted for adolescents in the past 10 years by 5-year cycles. Methods: This study was conducted, targeting 200,008 students attending junior high school and high school, using the data of the Korea Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey in 2005, 2010 and 2015. The collected data was analyzed by Rao-Scott $x^2$ test, using SPSS program. Results: The overall implementation of health education has increased over the past decade, showing statistically significant differences between 2005, 2010 and 2015 (p<.05). The type of health education given the most was sex education (68.9~74.5%) in 2005 and 2010 and safety education (83.8%) in 2015, whereas the least given health education was personal hygiene education (18.2%) in 2005 and oral health education (22.0~24.0%) in 2010 and 2015. In addition, the implementation rate of health education was statistically significantly lower in high school than in middle school in all three years, 2005, 2010 and 2015. As the grades got higher, the implementation rate of health education showed a statistically significant decrease (p<.05). Conclusion: Health education for adolescents needs to be provided equally. Therefore, it is necessary to prepare an education policy for students to benefit from adequate health.
The purpose of study was to examine the factors influencing fast food consumption in Korean adolescents. The analysis was conducted using cross sectional study data from the 16th Korea Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey in 2020. A total 54,948 middle and high school students participated in this study. The subjects in the analysis were 28,353 males and 26,595 females, 28,961 middle school and 25,987 high school students. In total, 56.6% Korean adolescents consumed fast food once or twice weekly and 25.4% consumed fast food more than three times weekly. Logistic regression analysis revealed that fast food consumption was significantly associated with dietary behavior such as lower breakfast intake (OR: 0.930, 95%CI: 0.891~0.970, p<0.001), higher soda drinks consumption (OR: 2.563, 95%CI: 2.452~2.678, p<0.001), and higher sweet drinks consumption (OR: 1.898, 95%CI: 1.818~1.982, p<0.001). For psychological and health behavior factors, fast food consumption was also significantly associated with higher perceived stress (OR: 1.239, 95%CI: 1.163-1.321, p<0.001), higher smoking (OR: 1.300, 95%CI: 1.164~1.453, p<0.001), higher drinking (OR: 1.193, 95%CI: 1.112~1.280, p<0.001), higher depression experience, higher loneliness experience, and lower subjective health, In conclusion, fast food consumption in Korean adolescents was associated with undesirable dietary habits and psychological and health behavior, suggesting that appropriate education programs are necessary to reduce such behavior.

This study was investigated the relationship between the stress and suicidal ideation of adolescents from multi-cultural families. For the purpose, the study incorporated data of Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey 2011-2 and attempted to understand factors of their suicide ideation and reasons of stress, targeting 607 boy students and 543 girl students. For a statistical analysis, SPSS version 17.0 was used. During the analysis, the students one of which parents was not born in Korea were considered as those from multi-cultural families and statistical significance was set to be p<0.05, To look into relations between suicide ideation and reasons of stress with the former as a subordinate variable, the study figured out Odds Ratio(OR) through a simple logistics analysis and a complex sample was set for the analysis. Boy students had 2.70 times more suicide ideation due to stress from associates than girl students while girl students had 2.50 times more suicide ideation due to conflicts with parents than boy students. In conclusion, as there were various reasons of stress relating to individuals, families and school life which may affect suicide ideation of adolescents from multi-cultural families, our society should pay attention especially to improvement of relationships with parents and friends to prevent and control their suicide ideation.

Background: Many studies have reported that adolescents living with single parent have a high risk of obesity. However, those studies did not explore the implication of the gender of single parent living with adolescents. This study investigated the differences in obesity rates according to status of co-residence with their parents in Korean adolescents. The family living with single parent was classified into the family living with single father and the family living with single mother. Methods: This cross-sectional study involved 59,602 adolescents who participated in the 2017 Korea Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey. The data on height, weight, status of co-residence with parents, and the other variables were obtained through online questionnaires. Results: In male adolescents, the family living with single mother was related to a high proportion of obesity (odds ratio [OR] 1.24, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.09-1.40) and overweight (OR 1.17, 95% CI 1.03-1.34). However, in female adolescents, the family living with single father was related to a high proportion of obesity (OR 1.49, 95% CI 1.23-1.82). In addition, female adolescents living with neither parent were more likely to be obese (OR 1.47, 95% CI 1.13-1.91) and overweight (OR 1.31, 95% CI 1.00-1.70). Conclusions: This study showed a risk of obesity in adolescents living with single parent differs according to the gender of single parent living with adolescents. Not adolescents living with a same-gender parent, but those living with an opposite-gender parent have a high risk of obesity.

Fuzzy matching is proposed to make propensities of two groups similar with their propensity scores and a way to select control variable to make propensity scores with a process that shows how to acquire propensity scores using logic regression analysis, is presented. With such scores, it was a method to obtain an experiment group and a control group that had similar propensity employing the Fuzzy Matching. In the study, it was proven that the two groups were the same but with a different distribution chart and standardization which made edge tolerance different and we realized that the number of chosen cases decreased when the edge tolerance score became smaller. So with the idea, we were able to determine that it is possible to merge groups using fuzzy matching without a precontrol and use them when data (big data) are used while to check the pros and cons of Fuzzy Matching were made possible.
