A Study on Evaluation Method of the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC 차량의 시험평가 방법에 대한 연구)

  • With automobiles sharply increasing in numbers worldwide, we are faced with critical social issues such as traffic accidents, traffic jams, environmental pollution, and economic inefficiency. In response, research on ITS is promoted mainly by regions with advanced automotive industry such as the U.S., Europe, and Japan. While Korea is working on moving forward in the global market through developing and turning to global standards systems related to ASV (Advanced Safety Vehicle), the country is not fully prepared for such projects. The purpose of ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control) is to control a vehicle's longitudinal speed and distance and minimize driver workload. Such a system should be valuable in preventing accidents, as it reduces driver workload in the 21st-century world of telematics created by development of the automobile culture industry. In this light, the thesis presents a method to test and evaluate ACC system and a mathematical method to assess distance. For the proposed test and evaluation, theoretical values are tested with vehicle test and a database is acquired, by using vehicles equipped with an ACC system. Theoretical evaluation criteria for developing ACC system may be used and scenario-specific evaluation methods may find useful application through testing the formula proposed by comparing the database and mathematical method.

Night-to-Day Road Image Translation with Generative Adversarial Network for Driver Safety Enhancement (운전자 안정성 향상을 위한 Generative Adversarial Network 기반의 야간 도로 영상 변환 시스템)

  • Advanced driver assistance system(ADAS) is a major technique in the intelligent vehicle field. The techniques for ADAS can be separated in two classes, i.e., methods that directly control the movement of vehicle and that indirectly provide convenience to driver. In this paper, we propose a novel system that gives a visual assistance to driver by translating a night road image to a day road image. We use the black box images capturing the front road view of vehicle as inputs. The black box images are cropped into three parts and simultaneously translated into day images by the proposed image translation module. Then, the translated images are recollected to original size. The experimental result shows that the proposed method generates realistic images and outperforms the conventional algorithms.

Open Innovation in Car-Sharing Industry: Focusing on the Cooperation Case between Gongcar and Rental Car Company (카셰어링 산업의 개방형 혁신: (주)공카와 렌터카 업체간 개방형 혁신 사례를 중심으로)

  • Car-sharing is a representative model of the sharing economy, and it is a service that rents or uses a car for the necessary time without owning a car. This industry is growing due to various factors such as technological advances, increasing awareness of environmental protection, and increasing demand for solving traffic congestion problems in cities. Accordingly, there is a need for a strategic approach for companies providing car-sharing services to respond quickly to market changes in order to expand market share and differentiate services. Accordingly, this study conducted a case study on open innovation activities between Gongcar and existing rental car companies, focusing on the research question "What effects do open innovation activities between car-sharing companies and existing rental car companies cause?" As a result of the study, it was confirmed that Gongcar have (1) the ability to actively respond to market fluctuations by establishing a flexible vehicle supply chain based on demand, (2) have significantly reduced growth capital expenditure (Growth Capex), and both cafe and rental car companies have (3) performed successful open innovation by improving key KPI indicators and recording financial performance. This study reveals how open innovation acts as a key business growth engine in the car-sharing industry, and its significance is found in that it empirically confirmed the successful implementation conditions of open innovation based on resource dependence theory.

Traffic Signal Control Algorithm for Isolated Intersections Based on Travel Time (독립교차로의 통행시간 기반 신호제어 알고리즘)

  • This research suggested a real-time traffic signal control algorithm using individual vehicle travel times on an isolated signal intersection. To collect IDs and passing times from individual vehicles, space-based surveillance systems such as DSRC were adopted. This research developed models to estimate arrival flow rates, delays, and the change rate in delay, by using individual vehicle's travel time data. This real-time signal control algorithm could determine optimal traffic signal timings that minimize intersection delay, based on a linear programming. A micro simulation analysis using CORSIM and RUN TIME EXTENSION verified saturated intersection conditions, and determined the optimal traffic signal timings that minimize intersection delay. In addition, the performance of algorithm varying according to market penetration was examined. In spite of limited results from a specific scenario, this algorithm turned out to be effective as long as the probe rate exceeds 40 percent. Recently, space-based traffic surveillance systems are being installed by various projects, such as Hi-pass, Advanced Transportation Management System (ATMS) and Urban Transportation Information System (UTIS) in Korea. This research has an important significance in that the propose algorithm is a new methodology that accepts the space-based traffic surveillance system in real-time signal operations.

  • CVO(Commercial Vehicle Operations) of Intelligent Transport Systems is the system to manage effciently cargo distribution as providing at real time the information of cargo location and situation through nS and GPS technology. In this paper, we proposed the Gate Automation System of harbors among AVI/AEI. To implement this system, we use the DSRC(Dedicated Short Range Communication) which adopts an wireless communication between RSE(Road-side Equipment) and OBE(on-Board Equipment) on a vehicle. When constructing the automation gateway system of harbors, the business application ability are reviewed practically and the logistics facilities to be constructed in the near future nay use this paper results according to the international standard and it could help complete integrated logistics system.

  • AVIs on the road are installed for (1) security (2) and for traffic, and they are various managed by (1) police department, (2) local government, (3) national highway management, (4) Korean highway corporation. But although the collected data of the plate number, the travel time, the picture of the car are same, they are used in purposes of its installation because the managements are different and the data are difficult to be connected with each other. For this reason, this study is to appraise the application for creating traffic information by integrating these data, and to suggest the introduction of spatial detection system which integrated security-traffic AVI DB for the purpose of reliability improvement of center's velocity. The estimating sections of link travel information seems to be expanded, and the error rate between the center's velocity and the experimental value will be reduced if integrated DB of traffic and security AVIs is used for creating traffic information. Also, the crime prevention and arrest rate is expected to rise in the future.

Development of Pedestrian Fatality Model using Bayesian-Based Neural Network (베이지안 신경망을 이용한 보행자 사망확률모형 개발)

  • This paper develops pedestrian fatality models capable of producing the probability of pedestrian fatality in collision between vehicles and pedestrians. Probabilistic neural network (PNN) and binary logistic regression (BLR) ave employed in modeling pedestrian fatality pedestrian age, vehicle type, and collision speed obtained from reconstructing collected accidents are used as independent variables in fatality models. One of the nice features of this study is that an iterative sampling technique is used to construct various training and test datasets for the purpose of better performance comparison Statistical comparison considering the variation of model Performances is conducted. The results show that the PNN-based fatality model outperforms the BLR-based model. The models developed in this study that allow us to predict the pedestrian fatality would be useful tools for supporting the derivation of various safety Policies and technologies to enhance Pedestrian safety.

The Analysis of Bus Traffic Accident to Support Safe Driving for Bus Drivers (버스운전자 안전운행지원을 위한 교통사고 분석 연구)

  • For bus drivers' safe driving, a policy that analyzes the causes of the drivers' traffic accidents and then assists their safe driving is required. Therefore, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport set up its plan to gradually expand the equipping of commercial vehicles with FCWS (Forward Collision Warning System) and LDWS(Lane Departure Warning System), from the driver-supporting ADAS(Advanced Driver Assistance Systems). However, there is not much basic research on the analysis of bus drivers' traffic accidents in Korea. As such, the time is appropriate to research what is the most necessary ADAS for bus drivers going forward to prevent bus accidents. The purpose of this research is to analyze how serious the accidents were in the different bus routes and whether the accidents were repetitive, and to give recommendations on how to support ADAS for buses, as an improvement. A model of ordered logit was used to analyze how serious the accidents were and as a result, vehicle to pedestrian accidents which directly affected individuals were statistically significant in all of the models, and violations of regulations, such as speeding, traffic signal violation and violation of safeguards for passengers, were indicated in common in several models. Therefore, the pedestrian-sensor system and automatic emergency control device for pedestrian should be installed to reduce bus accidents directly affecting persons in the future, and education for drivers and ADAS are to be offered to reduce the violations of regulations.

  • 본 연구에서는 차세대 교통체계인 첨단교통 시스템(ITS)에서 차량 운전자 및 도로이용자에게 도로 및 교통정보를 제공하기 위하여 설치 및 운영되고 있는 도로전광표지(Variable Message Sign : VMS)의 시인성을 분석하기 위하여, 가장 중요한 기초 변수인 휘도와 색도를 측정하였다. 측정치를 통하여 VMS의 휘도와 색도가 시인성을 판별할 수 있는 성능 인자로써 가능한지를 검토하고, 향후 VMS 시스템의 설치 및 관리 기술에 실무요령의 활용 여부를 검토한다.

  • 최근 IT기술과 산업 간 융합이 활발한 가운데 자동차에도 각종 첨단 IT기술이 접목되면서 운전자의 안전과 편의성이 향상된 스마트카(smart car)가 속속 개발되고 있다. 가까운 미래에 스마트카의 도움으로 운전자가 전방주시 의무에서 자유롭게 될 수 있게 되면, 운행 중에 언제 어디서나 모바일 인터넷을 통한 정보접근이 가능하도록 지원하는 컴퓨팅 환경인 자동차 사물인터넷(Internet of Vehicles, Automotive IoT)이 중요하게 대두될 것으로 전망된다. 자동차 사물인터넷의 개념이 아직은 명확히 잡혀있지 않지만, 대체로 모바일 연결성(mobile connectivity)을 중심으로, 교통안전 혼잡해소뿐만 아니라 다양한 사용자 맞춤형 서비스 산업을 창출할 수 있는 컴퓨팅 환경을 의미한다. 즉, 운전자와 자동차, 자동차와 주변환경 및 교통인프라, 그리고 일상생활의 모든 요소가 자동차를 매개로 해서 유기적으로 연결되는 컴퓨팅 환경을 의미하며, 가까운 미래에 이런 컴퓨팅 환경을 지원하는 자동차가 상용화될 것으로 전망된다. 본고에서는 이러한 전망을 반영하여 자동차 사물인터넷 환경의 스마트카에 적용될 주요 기술과 서비스를 분석하고, 스마트카와 자율주행의 핵심기술인 인포테인먼트 플랫폼의 주요 동항 및 이슈를 살펴보고자 한다.
