Railroad accident analysis and countermeasure (철도사고 분석과 대책)

  • Most railroad accidents are due to human errors. In particular, most of the causes of these accidents are faults of an engine driver, such as lack of signal confirmation, insecure braking, driving by guess or force of habit. This paper identifies a problem(s) by analyzing accidents for the past 10 years and also seeks a solution to train good engine drivers in order to prevent railroad accidents. In summary, what is needed are: 1) proper placement of various manpower, 2) proper training of engine drivers, 3) proper legislation for a 2-man on board system, and 4) proper reformation of personnel management.

  • Kyung-Bu High Speed Railway is operated in train control system(tcs) of fixed block operated in a way of dividing track circuits into several blocks in accordance with operation circumstances such as rolling stocks, grade, curves and facilities. The TCS of fixed block system refers to a continuous train control system, which transfers operational information such as entry and exit speed, distance-to-go, and deceleration etc. into on-board train control equipment on the basis of block occupancy of a preceding train. It guarantees a safe operation of trains by giving an emergency braking order, in case that a train exceeds an entry and exit speed of a corresponding block. In this paper, we analyze the speed control code deducing in accordance with maximum operation speed and characteristics of rolling stocks by analyzing principles of generation of speed control code allocated in blocks for safe operation, then train operational efficiency was analyzed by means of analysis of operation headway in accordance with the deduced speed control code. This study will be used to design in case of getting an increase in speed for existing high speed line or new high speed line TCS.

The Study on Train Separation Control Technology using Balise for Conventional Line Speed Up (기존선 속도 향상을 위한 발리스를 이용하는 열차간격제어 기술에 대한 연구)

  • KORAIL carries out an improvement project of railway signaling system for the conventional line from the existing method which permits a train to move within limited speed the ground signal of ATS(Automatic Train Stop) system. The proposed system makes possible that a train can be driven using a speed profile created by onboard signaling system(ATP) with the movement authority from ground balise. A driving test over 100,000km is being executed by developing a tilting train for the speed elevation on the conventional line. And, the introduction of the tilting train by ATP system to the Jung-ang line is expected. However, a speed elevation on a curved line section has a restriction. Therefore, research on safety braking model and train separation control technology for the localization of ATP system is required preferentially. In this paper, we presented a safety braking model of ATP system and a train separation control method that use ground balise as variable information provider, and executed a performance simulation.

A Study on Effects of Energy Saving by Applying Energy Storage System (에너지저장시스템 적용에 의한 에너지절감 효과에 관한 연구)

  • The energy generated by braking vehicle would simply be converted into waste heat by its braking resistors if no other vehicle is accelerating at exactly the same time. Up to 45% of the tractive power of vehicles capable of returning energy to the power supply can be regenerated during braking and that this energy can be used to feed vehicles which are accelerating at the same time. Such synchronized braking and accelerating can not be coordinated, the ESS(energy storage system, here after) stores the energy generated during braking and discharges it again when a vehicle accelerates. The ESS is able to store and discharge energy extremely quickly, consequently enabling a complete exchange of energy between vehicles, even if they are not braking and accelerating at precisely the same time, as is most frequently the case in everyday service. The energy saving rate is related to the headway. If the headway is long/short, the energy saving goes up/down, When the headway is short, the ESS can not save much regenerative energy. The headway of SeoulMetro line 2 as the worst case is very short in Korea urban transit system. So, the energy saving rate will be very low. If the ESSs are applied to another railway system, we can expect that the effectiveness is better than the results of SeoulMetro line 2. This paper presents effects of energy saving obtained by applying the ESS to SeoulMetro line 2.

DC Traction Regenerative Energy Storage Devices using Super-capacitor (슈퍼 커패시터를 이용한 직류철도 회생에너지 저장장치)

  • Regenerative energy generated by regenerative braking of DC traction can cause the system malfunction or damage to the rectifier, or malfunction of the power conversion device in power supply system by DC Line voltage rise in feeder line. Regenerative energy storage system using super capacitor is one of the ways to stabilize DC line voltage. In this paper, energy storage system of DC traction system using super-capacitor bank is implemented and using the field measurement data of the station N and the station S on the Line 2, the operation characteristics of line voltage caused by regenerative energy of electric trains are verified. Also, charge/discharge characteristics of super capacitor are verified as well. Thus, we can verify the operation characteristics of super-capacitor bank for regenerative energy storage system installed in DC Traction. And if we can use field measurement data of DC line voltage, we have obtained cost reduction. The stabilization of the system will be improved by measuring the operation characteristics of regenerative energy storage system in certain section operated by DC traction and predicting the capacity and lifetime of super-capacitor.

Train vehicle Simulation for a HILS System of Air Brake (공기 제동의 HILS 시스템 구성을 위한 철도차량 시뮬레이션)

  • Train brake system is generally composed of an electronic brake and an air brake device, which has a crucial role for safety of the train. In this paper, a dynamic model for a tilting train, Hanvit-200 (TTX) has been derived for the purpose of developing a HILS system for the air brake device and anti-skid logic. Moreover, simulation studies has been conducted using Simulink software for skid situations. Simulation results demonstrate the validity of the proposed dynamic model.

  • In this paper, the case study of reducing rotational errors is done for a grinding spindle with an active magnetic bearing system. The rotational errors acting on the magnetic bearing spindle are due to mass unbalance of rotor, runout, grinding excitation and ed nonlinear dynamics of electromagnets. For the most case, the electrical runout of sensor target is big even in well-finished surface; this runout can cause a rotation error amplified by feedback control system. The adaptive feedforward method based on LMS algorithm is discussed to compensate this kind of runout effects, and investigated its effectiveness by numerical simulation and experimental analysis. The rotor orbit size in both bearings is reduced about to 5 pin due to lX rejection by feedforward control up to 50,000 rpm.

  • 본 논문에서는 고속철도 폐색분할 설계를 위한 요구사항을 도출하였다. 경부고속철도 열차제어시스템은 고정폐색방식으로 KTX가 차량의 물리적 특성, 선로환경 등을 고려하여 분할된 폐색구간을 진입할 때, 선행열차의 점유폐색을 기준으로 궤도회로로부터 해당폐색의 열차 진입/진출속도, 운행가능거리, 감속도 등의 운행정보를 전송받는다. 그리고 차상열차제어시스템은 지상에서 수신한 운행정보를 통해 열차제어곡선을 생성하고 열차가 해당폐색의 기준속도를 초과했을 경우, 비상제동명령을 내려 열차의 안전한 운행을 보장한다. 폐색분할은 열차의 안전한 운행을 위해 고정폐색방식에서 수행되는 기본설계로, 폐색분할 설계 결과는 궤도회로를 비롯한 지상열차제어장치의 수량을 산정하는 기준이 된다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 최고운행속도 300km/h로 운행하는 경부고속철도 폐색분할 설계를 기준으로 폐색분할을 위한 입력요구사항에 대해 분석하였다.

  • Currents which are generated at both ends of drive motor by operating brake pedal when subway train is driving, will generate the reviltalization actual effect if they are not used immediately. So there exist rolling stock established Dynamic braking annex for the purpose of stable brake performance in case there are no retrogress train around or no stable wiring voltage.Therefore 55% of entered energy are consumed in subway train. 45% are used in down gradient section or for regeneration energy and among them 25% are used for another train's retrogression through the wiring. So to reduce reviltalization method keeping the existing system, substation's service voltage should be declined about 5%. And then it will ease off excessive wiring voltage rise. And there need energy reduction by flexible service voltage adjustment and study for energy consumption efficiency in the subway.

Long-Rails Stress Analysis of High-Speed Railway Continuous Bridges Subject to Operating Basis Earthquake (사용지진을 고려한 고속철도 연속교 장대레일의 응력 해석)

  • Long-rails in railways and high-speed railway are subjected to additional stresses resulted from the displacements inconsistence between upper structures, and this phenomenon is more remarkable in continuous bridges than in simple bridges. For the sake of safety, railways have to guarantee trains to stop safely without derailment even in the event of earthquake. The influences of acceleration, braking, and temperature were analyzed by static nonlinear method. But earthquake loads that require dynamic nonlinear analysis are not considered in these methods. Because linear relation between relative displacements of decks and rail stresses is not guaranteed at the nonlinear systems such as long rails on the bridges, it is required compute to rail stresses considering both braking and earthquake load by nonlinear dynamic analysis method. In this study, dynamic analysis method with material non-linearity for rails on continuous bridges according to the Taiwan High Speed Railway(THSR) Design Specification volume 9 was developed. And additional stresses and displacements of long rails for acceleration, braking, and earthquake loads were analyzed by this method.
