Energy Absorption of Collision Post Based on North American CFR Regulations for Railway Vehicles (철도차량의 북미 CFR 법규에 대한 충돌 기둥에너지 흡수에 관한 연구)

  • In accidents involving the collision of railway vehicles, there is a risk that structural members might penetrate the cab frame of the railway vehicle in the space in which the driver or passengers are seated. To reduce this risk, worldwide, studies on the collision of railway vehicles are underway. In North America, the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) was revised in 2010 to include crush criteria for a collision and the corner post in an end frame. In this study, a crush analysis and crush test for a collision post and a crash analysis for a rigid cylinder were performed according to the CFR. The analysis and test results were compared and reviewed. This study aims to determine the usefulness of crush analysis for developing various end frames, and to understand the crush and crash characteristics and review the accuracy of the analysis.

  • The objective of this study is the developement health & disaster monitoring measurement using ubiquitous active communication digital datalogger system for monitoring measurement of railway construction sites. For the replacement of current passive data communication, ubiquitous active communication digital datalogger system is studied for the first time with in a country. Therefore data communication method and analyzing program of automatic measurement data is developed for the global positioning automatic digital datalogger system. The results of this study will be using both real time automatic monitoring measurement and health & disaster monitoring measurement of railway structures.

  • 철도교는 도로교와 달리 하중조건이 매우 다양하고 복잡하다. 특히 열차에 관계된 하중들은 일반적인 모델링에 대해 하중을 재하하기가 까다로울 뿐만 아니라, 그 해석 결과를 실 구조물의 설계에 반영하기에는 많은 논란이 되고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 철도교의 설계시 사용되는 열차에 관계된 하중들의 산정방법과 구조해석 모델링에 이러한 하중들을 재하하는 방법의 변화에 따른 구조해석 결과를 비교, 검토함으로써, 앞으로 수행되는 철도교의 설계에 기초자료를 제공하고자 한다.(중략)

A Study of Frost Penetration Depth and Frost Heaving in Railway Concrete Track (콘크리트 궤도의 동결깊이 및 동상량 측정 연구)

  • Many infra suructure such as road, railway, building and utility foundations have been damaged by the repeated freezing and thawing of the soil during winter and spring every year in seasonal frost region. The frost penetration depth is most important factor in the design of structure such as road, railway and building in seasonal frost region. This paper presents the results of calculation of frost penetration depth and frost heaving in concrete track for railway construction. Model concrete track were installed near the railway track in Gangwon, Gyeonggi, Choongbuk province and frost penetration depth were measured using methylene blue frost penetration depth gauge. Model concrete track in Cheolwon, frost heaving of concrete track were also evaluated. The measure of maximum frost penetration depth and frost heaving can be applied to design railway track for cold region in Korea.

  • To ensure the safety and functionality of a railroad bridge, maintaining the integrity of the bridge via continuous structural health monitoring is important. However, most structural integrity monitoring methods proposed to date are based on modal responses which require the extracting process and have limited availability. In this paper, the applicability of the existing damage identification method based on free-vibration reponses to time-domain deflection shapes due to moving train load is investigated. Since the proposed method directly utilizes the time-domain responses of the structure due to the moving vehicles, the extracting process for modal responses can be avoided, and the applicability of structural health evaluation can be enhanced. The feasibility of the presented method is verified via a numerical example of a simple plate girder bridge.

  • Concrete structures become more common in railway systems with an advancement of high speed train technologies. As the service life of concrete structures increases, structural strengthening for concrete structures may be necessary. There are several typical strengthening techniques using steel plate and fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) materials, which have their own inherent shortcomings. In order to enhance greater durability and resistance to fire and other environmental attacks, basalt fiber material attracts engineer's attention due to its characteristics. This study investigates bonding performance of basalt fiber sheet as a structural strengthening material. Experimental variables include bond width, length and number of layer. From the bonding tests, there were three different types of bonding failure modes: debonding, rupture and rip-off. Among the variables, bond width indicated more significant effect on bonding characteristics. In addition the bond length did not contribute to bond strength in proportion to the bond length. Hence this study evaluated effective bond length and effective bond strength. The effective bond strength was compared to those suggested by other researches which used different types of FRP strengthening materials such as carbon FRP.

  • How to efficiently and accurately detect the damages generated in a structure has become an important issue for structural health monitoring (SHM). Most existing SHM techniques require the baseline data which should be measured before a structure get damaged. Thus, this paper presents a new pitch-catch method-based SHM technique which will not require the baseline data any more. In the proposed SHM technique, the imaging method is also utilized to visualize damage locations. The proposed SHM technique is then validated through the damage detection texts for damaged aluminum plates.

  • Parametric study has been conducted to calculate the capacity of vacuum pump system that will be used to maintain the pressure of the tube structure under atmosphere level. Recently many railroad researchers pay attention to the tube train system as one of the super high speed transportation system. To achieve the super high speed, the inside of tube system should be maintained at low pressure level. In the low pressure environment, it is well known that air resistance of train is drastically decreased. Vacuum pump system will be used to make low pressure state for tube structure, exhaust the leakage air and supplement additional vacuum pumping. As results of these studies, we get the lump capacity of vacuum pump for various parameters. These results can be applied to analyze the effects of the reduction of air resistance.

  • The three-dimensional precision numerical analysis was performed using the finite element model applied with the railway track model consisting of rails, As a result of analyzing the track deformation level of the existing tunnel due to the excavation work adjacent to the urban transit, it was found that the evaluation criteria (allowed values) of conventional railways lines were satisfied. Based on the numerical analysis, it was analyzed that the results of the prediction of the tunnel structural stability of due to the excavation work and the level of the tunnel deformation occurring at the actual site could be approximated as closely as possible.

  • 고속열차(KTX)를 지지하는 구조물은 차량과 지속적인 접촉을 갖는 구조를 가지고 있으므로 고속열차의 운행 안정성(동적거동)을 고려한 설계가 필요하다. 또한, 상부 구조물은 고속열차의 연행이동집중하중을 지지하며, 이러한 하중조건을 갖는 차량이 운행할 때 상부 구조물은 설계 기준사항들을 만족해야한다. 호남고속철도 설계지침에 의하면 고속열차(KTX)의 운행 안정성을 평가하기 위한 항목들로 대상 교량의 고유진동수, 상판 수직가속도, 면틀림 그리고 승차감을 고려한 연직처침 등이 요구된다. 따라서, 본 연구에서는 KTX의 실 열차하중을 고려하여 연행이동집중하중으로 아치 교량의 동적거동을 검토하였으며, 호남고속철도 설계지침을 적용하여 대상 교량의 운행 안정성을 평가하였다.
