Moment frames have been widely used in building construction. In current design codes, concrete moment frames are classified into ordinary, intermediate, and special moment resisting concrete frames (OMRCF, IMRCF, SMRCF)). The objective of this study is to investigate the seismic behavior of columns in ordinary moment resisting concrete frames (OMRCF) and intermediate moment resisting concrete frames (IMRCF). For this purpose 3 story OMRCF and IMRCF buildings were designed and detailed in compliance to ACI 318 (2002) and KCI (1999). In this study the buildings were assumed to be located in seismic zone 1 classified by UBC (1997). This study considered the columns in the 1st story since these columns shall resist the largest axial and lateral forces during an earthquake. Eight 2/3 scale column specimens were made for representing the upper part and lower part of exterior and interior columns of the OMRCF and the IMRCF Quasi-static reversed cyclic loading was applied to each specimen with a constant or varying axial load. Test results show that seismic behaviors of columns are influenced by existence of lap splices, axial force levels, and lateral reinforcement at possible plastic hinging region. However, the effect of such variables strongly co-related to each other.

Recycling glass fiber, 'F-fiber,' was obtained by the separation of the roving layer from waste FRP and the concrete products or structures were considered for its application. Experiment was carried out for the bending strength of aggregate (2.45 of cement) by weight and F-fiber (density of 1.45, volume ratio to all of the aggregate and the cement). Whereas the specimen containing 1% F-fiber showed the bending strength 23% higher than that without F-fiber after curing far 28 days, the one with 0.5% F-fiber did not give any change. It could be found, therefore, that the minimum mixing amount should be larger than 0.5% fur the strength reinforcement. One of the reinforcing concrete product, bench flume, containing 1% F-fiber showed 21% increment of bending strength In contrast to that without F-fiber.
The use of post installed anchors with bond type has lately been increasing when it is necessary to repair, reinforce, or remodel structures. This method provides flexibility and simplicity for construction of structural members that require adhering or fixing. Meanwhile, strength evaluation of anchors with expansion type among post-installed anchors systems has nearly reached setting up stage like design code through continual experimental studies for the last ten years, but analyses or experimental studies on anchor system with bond type are not yet sufficient. Accordingly, the designers and builders of korea depend on foreign design codes since there are no exact domestic design code they could credit. In this study, the objectives are investigating the effects on pull-out strength of resin anchors embedded into plain concrete by pull-out experiment of resin anchors with variables such as anchor diameter, anchor interval, embedment depth and edge distance.
12 concrete blocks, on which hybrid fibrous sheets (carbon fiber and glass fiber) had been bonded, were subjected to tensile load in order to estimate properties of the bonded interface. the sheet length was varied by 100mm, 200mm and 400mm. It was found that more than 150mm bond length is required to achieve the maximum bearing capacity of the interface. In this study, maximum bond stress $\tau_{F,max}$, ultimate slip $S_{FU}$ of the interface were estimated $\tau_{F,max}$=3.0MPa and $S_{FU}$= 0.175mm, respectively.
An experimental study was performed to investigate the earthquake resistance of the beam-column connections as a part of a precast concrete moment-resisting frame that uses precast concrete U-shaped shells for the beams. Five full-scale precast concrete specimens and one conventional monolithic concrete specimen were tested under cyclic loading. The parameters for this test were the reinforcement ratio, stirrup spacing, and end-strengthening details of the precast beam shell. The test results showed that regardless of the test parameters, the precast concrete beam-column connections showed good load-carrying capacity and deformation capacity, which were comparable to those of conventional monolithic concrete specimen. However, at large deformations, the beam-column connections of the precast concrete specimens were subjected to severe strength degradation due to diagonal shear cracks and the bond-slip of re-bars at the joint region. For this reason, the energy dissipation capacity and stiffness of the precast concrete specimens were significantly less than those of the cast-in-place specimen.

Recently, it is the well-known that there are some kinds of problem the waste concrete generated while repairing, reinforcing and dismantling of structures in the domestic and overseas. In this paper, various tests were performed about the use of the recycled concrete fine aggregate for the materials of high quality and structural concrete. And also, in order to improve structural performance of the concrete structure the steel frame was under overcrowded arrangement of steel bar. Consequently, it was be necessary the Self-Consolidating Concrete(SCC) that can fill the concrete into the work-form corner which has become overcrowded arrangement of steel bar without any other vibration. The purpose of this study is related to the properties of Self-Consolidating Concrete(SCC) according to mixing ratio of recycled concrete fine aggregate.

The seismic control effect of reinforced concrete structures with low energy dissipating capacity due to stiffness degradation is investigated through nonlinear time history analysis. The primary structure is idealized as a SDOF system of modified Takeda hysteresis rule and an elasto-perfectly-plastic nonlinear spring is added to represent a hysteretic damping device. Based on statistics of the numerical analysis, equivalent linearization techniques are evaluated, and empirical equations for response prediction are proposed. As a result, estimation of the ductility demand with proposed empirical equations is more desirable than the equivalent linearization techniques. The optimal yield strengths based on empirical equations are significantly different from the optimal yield strength of elasto-perfectly-plastic systems. Also, the results indicate that the reduction effect of the ductility demand is more remarkable for smaller natural periods.

This paper represents results of an effort to seismically rehabilitate a 12-story nonductile reinforced concrete frame building. The frame located in the most severe seismic area, zone 4, is assumed to be designed and detailed for gravity load requirements only. Both pushover and nonlinear time-history analyses are carried out to determine strength, deformation capacity and the vulnerability of the building. The analysis indicates a drift concentration at the $1^{st}$ floor level due to inadequate strength and ductility capacity of the ground floor columns. The capacity curve of the structure, when superimposed on the average demand response spectrum for the ensemble of scaled earthquakes indicates that the structure is extremely weak and requires a major retrofit. The retrofit of the building is attempted using viscoelastic (VE) dampers. The dampers at each floor level are sized in order to reduce the elastic story drift ratios to within 1%. It is found that this requires substantially large dampers that are not practically feasible. With practical size dampers, the analyses of the viscoelastically damped building indicates that the damper sizes provided are not sufficient enough to remove the biased response and drift concentration of the building. The results indicate that VE-dampers alone are not sufficient to rehabilitate such a concrete frame. Concrete buildings, in general, being stiffer require larger dampers. The second rehabilitation strategy uses concrete shearwalls. Shearwalls increased stiffness and strength of the building, which resulted in reducing the drift significantly. The effectiveness of VE-dampers in conjunction with stiff shearwalls was also studied. Considering the economy and effectiveness, it is concluded that shearwalls were the most feasible solution for seismic rehabilitation of such buildings.

This paper provides the results for experimental study on longitudinal shear performance for new-concept composite slabs embedded with silence insulator. Longitudinal shear capacity tests are used to predict characteristics of composite action between the concrete block, silence insulator and deckplate. A total set of 7 Push-Down specimens are tested to clarify the composite action between the concrete block, silence insulator and deckplate. Parameters in this study are the width of T-type bar, the depth of reinforced bar and the thickness of silence insulator. The results from experimental study on longitudinal shear capacity for new-concept composite slabs applied T-type bar, Reinforced bar and Silence insulator are summarized as follows. In test result, the Longitudinal Shear Capacity of the new concept specimen is 2 times excellent than basic specimen with safety. It is expected that applying the proposed composite slab detail at the actual site will provide a significant safety factor in structural aspect of the existing composite slab, and greatly contribute to the improvement capacities of resisting vibration and sound.
