In this study, the flexural characteristics of reinforced polymer concrete T-beams strengthened with GFRP, typically used for bridges and parking structures, are investigated. A method to determine the flexural failure mode of reinforced polymer concrete T-beams comprised of compression failure (CF), tension failure (TF), and fiber sheet failure (FF) for different levels of GFRP strengthening is proposed. Moreover, the present study provides a formula to calculate the design flexural strength for each failure mode. In reinforced polymer concrete T-beams strengthened with GFRP, an ideal failure mode can be achieved when the failure occurs in the following order: 1) yield of steel reinforcement, 2) failure of GFRP, and 3) compression failure of concrete. In the case of FF mode, due to GFRP failure before the polymer concrete crushing in compression region, a concept of equivalent rectangular block based on the ultimate limit state of concrete should not be used. Thus, this study suggests an idealized stress-strain curve for polymer concrete and finds parameters for stress block, ${\alpha}$ and ${\beta}$ based on the strain distribution in polymer concrete. Furthermore, the present study suggests an aspect ratio of 2.5 by examining the compressive stress distribution and design flexural strength characteristics for different aspect ratio of T-beams. This study also provides a design flexural strength formula, and validates its acceptability based on experiment and theoretical analysis.
Ultra-High-Performance Steel Fiber-Reinforced Concrete (SUPER Concrete) exhibits improved compressive and tensile strengths far superior to those of conventional concrete. These characteristics can significantly reduce the cross sectional area of the member and the anchorage strength of a headed bar is expected to be improved. In this study, the anchorage strengths of headed bars with $4d_b$ or $6d_b$ embedment length were evaluated by simulated exterior beam-column joint tests where the headed bars were used as beam bars and the joints were cast of 120 or 180 MPa SUPER Concrete. In all specimens, the actual yield strengths of the headed bars over 600 MPa were developed. Some headed bars were fractured due to the high anchorage capacity in SUPER Concrete. Therefore, the headed bar with only $4d_b$ embedment length in 120 MPa SUPER Concrete can develop a yield strength of 600 MPa which is the highest design yield strength permitted by the KCI design code. The previous model derived from tests with normal concrete and the current design code underestimate the anchorage capacity of the headed bar anchored in SUPER Concrete. Because the previous model and the current design code do not consider the effects of the high tensile strength of SUPER Concrete. From a regression analysis assuming that the anchorage strength is proportional to $(f_{ck})^{\alpha}$, the model for predicting anchorage strength of headed bars in SUPER Concrete is developed. The average and coefficient of variation of the test-to-prediction values are 1.01 and 5%, respectively.

Various types of re-bar splicing methods have been developed and applied to reinforced concrete (RC) structures in the field. According to previous studies, the coupler splice is relatively superior to the lap splice in terms of cost efficiency when the diameter or strength of the re-bar is larger or higher. This study was performed to develop a filler type mechanical splice for a high-strength re-bar (SD600) in reinforced concrete structures. The deformed re-bars were inserted into a circular steel tube coupler and high-strength epoxy filler was then injected into the coupler. The splice system was completed by hardened filler in a coupler. The epoxy filler was used as the manufactured production epoxy to conduct experiments of filler type mechanical splice specimens, and to observe the failure loads and failure aspects of the specimens. For this goal, the experiment of one-way tensile test was conducted for the epoxy filler type mechanical splices specimens according to the compressive strength of epoxy, length of coupler, and diameter of re-bar. The shape of failure of the re-bar coupler splice showed that the re-bars were pulled between the lugs of the re-bars as a result of the shear fracture of the hardened epoxy. The actual failure load of the experiment specimen was approximately 2 times higher than the expected failure load of the epoxy filler, which greatly improves the failure load of the hardening epoxy filler due to the restraint of the steel coupler.
In recent years, strengthening by steel plate, carbon fiber sheets, and carbon fiber laminate is spotlighted in order to repair and rehabilitation of R/C structures. In this study, 3 methods of rehabilitation technique were analyzed from the test results. Test parameters were the width of cracks, the method of repair and rehabilitation, the magnitude of pre-load. Deflections, failure loads, strains of reinforcing bar, strains of carbon fiber sheet, carbon fiber laminate and steel plate were measured during the tests. The primary purpose of this research was to analyze the failure mode and structural behavior of strengthened RC beams with/without superimposed pre-load. Test results should that no significant difference was observed between with pre-loaded specimens and no-loaded specimens during rehabilitation.
This paper presents the failure mode and strengthening design of reinforced concrete slab strengthened with Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer(CFRP) grid. Parameters involved in this experimental study are FRP grid reinforcement quantity, repair mortar thickness, the presence of anchor, and strengthening in compression. In this study, there are different failure types with increasing the CFRP grid strengthening reinforcement. On the low strengthening level, CFRP grid in repair mortar cover ruptures. On the moderate strengthening level, there is a debonding shear failure in the interface of carbon FRP grid because of the excessive shear deformation. On the high strengthening level, diagonal shear failure occurs. With the increasing of FRP grid reinforcement, the strengthening effect increased, but the ductility decreased. By limiting the strengthening level, it can be achieved to prevent shear failure which result in sudden loss in the resisting load capacity. CFRP rupture failure is desirable, because CFRP ruptured concrete slab keeps the same load capacity and ductility haying before strengthening even after failure. Finally, design guideline and procedure are given for strengthening of concrete slab with CFRP grid.

This paper describes ultimate load tests which were performed to show the effects of prestress loss and tendon corrosion on the flexural strength of post-tensioned concrete beams and the occurrence of wire fracture. Five test specimens were fabricated in laboratory with the variations of the prestress of tendons and the loss of tendon area. For two specimens, small area of tendon at the center of the beam was exposed by using diameter 25mm drill and the exposed tendon was corroded using accelerated corrosion equipment. During the tests, deflections, crack width, and strain changes were measured and acoustic events were monitored with two acoustic sensors. Tests results show that the ultimate flexural strength of test specimens with corroded tendons is smaller than the predicted flexural strength which is calculated considering the loss of tendon area. It is considered that estimation of flexural strength of PSC beams with corroded tendons is very complicated just based on the loss of tendon area obtained by one-side visual inspection.
The test results from three one fourth scale models using high strength Reinforced Concrete $f_x=704\;kg/cm^2,\;f_y=5.830\;kg/cm^2$ are presented. Such specimens are considered to represent the critical 3 storics of 60-story tall building of a structural wall system in area of high seismicity respectively. They are tested under inplane vertical and horizontal loading. The main varlable is the level of axial stress. The amounts of vertical and horizontal reinforcement are identical for the three walls testcd. The cross-section of all walls is barbell shape. The aspectratio($h_w/I_w$) of test specimen is 1.8. The aim of the study is to investigate the effects of levels of applied axial stresses on the inelastic behavior of high-strength R /C tall walls. Experimental results of high strength R /C tall walls subjected to axial load and simulated sels rnic loading show that it is possible to insure a ductlle dominant performance by promotmg flex ural yielding of vertical reinforcement and that axial stresses within $O.21f_x$ causes an increase in horizontal load-carrying capacity, initial secant st~ffness characteristics, but an decrease in displacement ductility. energy dissipation index and work damage index of high strength K /C tall walls

Recently, as the magnitude and frequency of earthquakes increases, research is needed to increase the ductility of the columns in order to prevent the collapse of structures. In this study, to evaluate the performance of columns reinforced with continuous transverse reinforcing bars, the FE model for the dynamic analysis of structures reinforced with continuous transverse reinforcing bars for circular and rectangular columns is to be verified using the results of uniaxial compression experiments in the previous study. As a result, the experimental value of the column reinforced with continuous transverse reinforcement and the result value related to the dynamic analysis showed similar behavior, and the reliability was high. As a result of the analysis, the usability of the rectangular column reinforced with continuous lateral reinforcing bars was confirmed because the dissipated energy performance of the columns reinforced with spiral reinforcing bars was higher than that of the columns reinforced with band reinforcing bars.

Corrosion of steel in the reinforced concrete structures is one of the main reason of degradation. It causes that lifetime of structures is shortened and maintenance cost is increased. And it also causes degradation of structures like bridges which are under repeated load. So, many research have been performed about FRP rebar. But there are few research about FRP rebar under fatigue. This study is to examine flexural characteristic of concrete beam reinforced with FRP(CFRP, GFRP) rebar under static and fatigue for considering the application. The specimens that used in this study are designed by ACI 440.1R-06 and reinforced with CFRP(CR) or GFRP(GR) overly. In the result of static bending test, all specimens were failed at compression phase. In fatigue test, the fatigue stress level was 60%, 70% or 80% of the static bending strength. Most of the specimens seemed to be compressive failure, but CR-60 and CR-70 specimens were failed with rupturing of tension bar.

This paper presents a nonlinear analysis method for the reinforced concrete beams strengthened by the external bonding of high strength, lightweight fiber sheets on the tension face of the beams. The method is based on the results of experimental studies. The experimental study involved tensile tests of 120 specimens to evaluate the tensile properties of fiber sheets(carbon, glass, and aramid fiber) and bending tests of 75 beams strengthened with various types of fiber sheets to evaluate the flexural capacities. Based on these experimental results, reasonable rupture strains of the fiber sheets were estimated. The nonlinear flexural analysis considered nonlinear flexural stresses as compressive and tensile stresses of concrete, load-deflection curves, and rupture strains of fiber sheets. The nonlinear flexural analysis accurately predicts the load-deflection response and the flexural behavior of the retrofitted beams.
