  • This study is to propose a practical and realistic reliability analysis by ETCM (Expected Total Cost Minimization). One of the main objectives is intended to propose the safety assessment and capacity rating of existing reinforced concrete members by evaluation index, that is RF(Rating Factor) from the results of the field test and inspection for reinforced concrete bridge. ETCM method is used for the reliability analysis of the proposed models. The proposed reliability model and method are applied to the safety assessment and system factors of reinforced concrete members.

  • The deflection of reinforced concrete members can be highly variable, due to uncertainties in the characteristics of the concrete. However, current standards do not take this problem into account, instead recommending only the minimum thickness and maximum allowable deflections based on empirical data. This paper is aimed at evaluation deflection variabilities by applying a probabilistic analysis model to a finite element analysis model. To evaluate the variabilities of deflections, a Monte Carlo simulation, which incorporated the eight parameters related to concrete, reinforcement, member size, and tension stiffening. The results showed that lager spans were more sensitive to the deflection due to loads and that as the applied live loads were increases and the slab thickness were decreased, the deflection variability increased.

  • Currently, in the precast concrete construction, Precast Concrete (PC) and Cast-In-Place (CIP) concrete with different concrete strengths are frequently used. However, current design codes do not specifically provide shear design methods for PC-CIP hybrid members using dual concrete strengths. In the present study, simply supported composite beams with shear reinforcement were tested. The test variables were the area ratio of the two concretes, spacing of shear reinforcement, and shear span-to-depth ratio. The shear strengths of the test specimens were evaluated by current design codes on the basis of the test results. The results showed that the shear strength of the composite beams was affected by the concrete strength of the compressive zone and also proportional to the flexural rigidity of un-cracked sections. Furthermore, the contribution of shear reinforcements varied according to the concrete strength of the compressive zone.

  • Reinforced Concrete structures are constructed under the basic assumption of perfect bonding between steel and concrete. The corrosion of steel in the reinforced concrete columns results in the excessive cracks and gradual deterioration of concrete between steel and concrete. The cyclic loading test was conducted with the three corrosion rates in the laboratory. Throughout this test, it is investigated a bond behavior of reinforced concrete columns under a steel corrosion. Main variables of the test are a corrosion of steel reinforcement and a level of stress.

  • The KCI-12 and ACI 318-14 design codes limit the maximum yield strength of shear reinforcement to prevent concrete compressive crushing before the yielding of shear reinforcement. The maximum yield strength of shear reinforcement is limited to 420 MPa in the ACI 318-14 design code, while limited to 500 MPa in the KCI-12 design code. A total of eight post-tensioning prestressed concrete beams with high strength shear reinforcement were tested to observe the shear behavior of PSC beams and the applicability of the high strength reinforcement was thus assessed. In the all PSC beam specimens that used stirrups greater than maximum yield strength of shear reinforcement required by the ACI 318-14 design code, the shear reinforcement reached their yield strains. The observed shear strength of tested eight PSC beams was greater than the calculated ones by the KCI-12 design codes. In addition, the diagonal crack width of all specimens at the service load was smaller than the crack width required by the ACI 224 committee. The experimental and analytical results indicate that the limitation on the yield strength of shear reinforcement in the ACI 318-14 design code is somewhat under-estimated and needs to be increased for high strength concrete. Also the application of high strength materials to PSC is available with respect to strength and serviceability.

  • With the increasing tendency to construct high rise reinforced concrete building~i, it is required to use high strength materIals, smaller member sections, and larger reinforcing bars, I t is generally recognized that under severe seismic loads beam column jomts may become more critical structural components than other structural elements. In a ductile momentresistmg reinforced concrete frame, the connection of bearncolumn must be capable of resistll1g the large lateral forces caused by seismic actions, The purpose of this experimental study is to evaluate and ll1vestigate the earthquake resistant perform ance of beam-colurrm subassemblies constructed with high-strength concrete cast by the concrete of com¬pressive strength of 700kg / cm2 subjected to reversed cyclic loadings. New approaches for moving the plastic hinging zone away from the column face and preventing the di¬agonal crack in the joint region are adopted to advance the earthquake-resistant performance of beam-column subassemblies using high-strengh concrete under severe earthquake-type loading. Exper¬imental results indicate that the modified new details which are introduced by intermediate reinforcement in the beam over a specific beam length adjacent to the joint are able to attain the stable hysteretic behavior and the enhancement of earthquake-resistant performance. Keywords: high strength concrete: beam-column Joints; seirnic loads(reversed cyclic loading) : earth¬quake-resistant performance; plastic hinge zone: diagonal crack: intermediate reinforce¬ment ; closed strirrup: hysteretic behavior: enhancement .

  • According to the survey of earthquake disaster, low-rise reinforced concrete building larger by the extent of damage and because of the underlying distribution of reinforced concrete structures more, it is very likely to be disasters. The purpose of this study is to discuss how strength and stiffness of each system in low-rise reinforced concrete buildings consisted of extremely brittle, shear and flexural failure lateral-load resisting systems have influence on seismic capacities of the overall system. Generally, if shear failure members including extremely brittle failure members are failed during an earthquake, the lateral-load resisting seismic capacities of RC buildings are lower rapidly, and if the seismic capacities of shear failure members were higher than that of flexural failure members, failures of shear failure members have influence on failures of the overall system. The result of this paper will provide pseudo-dynamic test of carried out to estimate the possibility of proposals.

  • Concrete has two different failure mechanisms : compressive crushing and tensile cracking. Concrete models should use the two different failure criteria to analyze the inelastic behavior of concrete including multiaxial crushing and tensile cracking. Concrete models used in this study are based on plasticity with multiple failure criteria of compressive crushing and tensile cracking. For tensile cracking behavior, two different plasticity models are investigated. The* ,e are rotating-crack and fixed-crack plasticity models, classified according to idealization of crack 0rientat:ions. The material models simplify inelastic behavior of concrete for plane stress problenls. The material models are used for the finite element anlaysis. Analytical results are compared with several experiments of reinforced concrete member. The advantages and disadva.ntages of rotating-crack and fixed -crack plasticity models are discussed.
