In this paper, the 1/5 scale models of the reinforced concrete colunms were designed and fabricated. The influence of the number of blasting holes on the exposed length of steel bars and vertical load was investigated. The relation between the length of steel bar and the number of blasting holes was examined by performing the blast tests considering the vertical load on the scaled reinforced concrete columns. Weight of scaled column models by blasting and that of exposed was compared with the number of blasting holes. Finally, based on the exposed length of steel bars and vertical load, the number of blasting holes were calculated. Results shows that the number of blasting holes calculated in this study are suitable for scaled structure models test by blasting demolition.

Spiral reinforcement in a circular column plays an effective role in the ductile behavior of a column through position fixing and buckling restraining of the longitudinal reinforcement, and confining core-concrete. Each country has suggested the minimum volumetric ratio of spiral reinforcement in order to secure the ductility of concrete columns. The minimum volumetric ratio of spiral reinforcement suggested by ACI 318-14 and the national concrete structure design standard was developed based on the theory of Richard et al. (1928); furthermore it has been used until now. However, their theory cannot consider the effects of high strength concrete and high strength reinforcement, and arrangement condition of the spiral reinforcement. In this study, a modified minimum volumetric ratio equation is suggested, which is required to improve the ductility of reinforced concrete circular columns and to recover their stress. The modified minimum volumetric ratio equation suggested here considers the effect of the compressive strength of concrete, the yield strength of spiral reinforcement, the cross sectional area of columns, the pitch of spiral reinforcements and the diameter of spiral reinforcement. In this paper, the validity of the minimum volumetric ratios from ACI 318-14 and this study was investigated and compared based on the results of uniaxial compression experiment for specimens in which the material strength and the spiral reinforcements ratio were used as variables. In the end of the study, the modification method for the suggested equation was examined.
Slippage of beam longitudinal reinforcement at beam-column connections is an important cause of damage to reinforced concrete frames under static and dynamic loads, This paper summarizes the results of an experimen¬tal study on the effects of confinements and compressive strength of concrete on the local bond stress-slip cha¬racteristics of deformed bars. I t is concluded from experimental results that, as far as the bond splittmg cracks are restrained by the vertical column reinforcement, confinement of concrete by transverse reinforcement has insignigicant direct effect on the local bond behavior. The ultimate bond strength, however, Increases pro¬portionally with the square root of concrete compressive strength. An empirical model was developed for local bond st ressslip relationslip of deformed bars in confined concrete of different compressive strengths.

This paper predicted the shear behavior of reinforced concrete columns using Transformation Angle Truss Model (TATM) considered the effects of bending moment and axial force. Nine columns with various shear span- to-depth ratios and axial force ratios were tested to verify the theoretical results obtained from TATM. Fine linear displacement transducers (LVDT) were attached to a side of the column near the shear critical region to measure the curvature, the longitudinal and transverse axial deformations, and the shear deformation of the column. The test was terminated when the value of the applied load dropped to about $85\%$ of the maximum-recorded load in the post-peak descending branch. All the columns were failed in shear before yielding of the flexural steel. The shear strength and the stiffness of the columns increased, as the axial force increased and the shear span-to-depth ratio decreased. Shear stress-shear strain and shear stress-strain of shear reinforcement curves obtained from TATM were agreed well with the test results in comparison to other truss models (MCFT, RA-STM, and FA-STM).
The longitudinal reinforcement ratio for the performance-based design of columns was studied. Unlike the existing design codes using uniform minimum reinforcement ratio and effective stiffness for all columns, the longitudinal reinforcement ratio of columns was defined as the function of various design parameters. To evaluate the minimum reinforcement ratio, two conditions were considered: 1) prevention of passive yielding of compression re-bars due to the creep and shrinkage of concrete under sustained service loads; and 2) ultimate flexural strength greater than the cracking moment capacity to maintain the ductility of columns for earthquake design. In addition, the effective flexural stiffness of columns for structural analysis was determined according to the longitudinal reinforcement ratio. The design method addressing the three criteria was proposed. The proposed method was applied to a design example.
One of the most complex reinforcement location in the precast building frame is the beam-column joint in a prefabricated construction. It is generally resulted from the vortical bars of column, anchorage bars of beam, and bars of hoop. Particularly the hooked anchorage bars of beam are confronted with hoop and main column bars. The headed reinforcement is considered to place them easily and to reduce the anchorage length in a precast construction. Reversed cyclic loading tests are performed on four beam-column specimens to evaluate the strength and behavior of beam to column and column to column connections. The result of test shows that the headed reinforcement has a similar performance than that of hooked reinforcement in a precast specimen with strong column and weak beam joints. The splice column joints which are used frequently in the domestic fields also show reliable behaviors in those tests with strong column and weak beam joints.
In this study, experimental research was carried out to evaluate and improve the seismic performance of reinforced concrete beam-column joint regions using strengthening materials (steel plate, carbon fiber sheet, and embedded carbon fiber rod) in existing reinforced concrete buildings. Six specimens of retrofitted beam-column joints are constructed using various retrofitting materials and tested for their retrofit performances. Specimens designed by retrofitting the beam-column joint regions (LBCJ series) of existing reinforced concrete building showed a stable mode of failure and an increase in load-carrying capacity due to the effect of crack control at the time of initial loading and confinement from retrofitting materials during testing. Specimens of LBCJ series, designed by the retrofitting of FRP in reinforecd beam-column joint regions increased its maximum load carrying capacity by 26~50% and its energy dissipation capacity by 13.0~14.4% when compared to standard specimen of LBCJC with a displacement ductility of 4.

The limitation of the yield strength in reinforced concrete columns is given for the effective use of high-strength steel bar, because very high-strength steel bar does not yield while concrete fails in compression. In order to overcome this limitation, it is required to increase peak strain of the concrete. The objective of this study is to examine the confinement effect of plate type lateral reinforcement in reinforced concrete columns. From this experimental study, the reinforced concrete columns confined by plate type carbon fiber sheets showed higher compressive strength and peak concrete strain comparing to the unconfined columns. The confinement effect is higher when cross-sectional type is a circular one than a square one. Moreover, the confinement effect was also higher for circular type confinement. Based on this study, high-strength steel bars with strength exceeding 800 MPa can be effectively used for reinforced concrete columns confined by plate type lateral reinforcements.
