  • In this study, a development of the rust formation arising from steel corrosion was modelled to quantify the structural impact in steel reinforced concrete. The interfacial gap, cover depth and diameter of steel rebar were taken for variables in modelling. It was found that the interfacial gap was the most influencing on the structural limit at steel corrosion, followed by steel diameter and cover depth. At 75 mm of cover depth with 20 mm of the steel diameter, the rust amount to reach cracking accounted for 16.95-27.69 ㎛ to 1-10 ㎛ of the interfacial gap. It was found that there was no risk of cracking and structural limit until the rust was formed within the interfacial gap. With a further formation of rust, the concrete section was successively behaved to yielding, cracking and failure. Additionally, the interfacial gap was the most dominant parameter for the rust amount to reach the cracking of concrete at the interfacial zone, whilst the cover depth had a marginal effect on cracking but had a crucial influence on the rust to failure.

  • This study examined the bending performance of high strength and seismic purpose reinforcing bars experimentally with various parameters. For the experimental approach on the bending performance, the specimens were prepared with parameters, such as steel grades, diameters of reinforcing bars, and bending angles of reinforcing bars. Tensile strength tests on the reinforcing bars, the bending tests and re-bending tests, and the second tensile strength tests on the re-bended reinforcing bars were conducted. According to the test results on high strength and seismic purpose reinforcing bars, defects did not appear when the yield strength of the reinforcing bar was 500 MPa or less and the diameter was D13 or less, even when the first bending process was performed with a $135^{\circ}$ bending angle and a $2d_b$ inner radius. The bending performance decreased asthe strength and diameter of the reinforcing bars was increased. In addition, there was no significant difference between the general reinforcing bars and seismic purpose-reinforcing bars.

  • In this study, the analysis of concrete cracks was conducted with a total of three variables: coating thickness, oxygen diffusion rate, and reinforced diameter of reinforced concrete structures. Cracks occurred after about 3, 4, and 6 years at the coating thickness of 30, 40, and 50mm when the coating thickness was used as a variable, and cracks occurred after about 4, 5, and 10 years at oxygen diffusivity of 2e-9, 2e-11, and 2e-12(m2/s) when the oxygen diffusion rate was used as a variable. In the case of reinforcing bar diameters, cracks occurred after about 4, 3, and 2 years on the reinforcing bar diameters of D10, D19, and D25.

  • In this study, pull-out tests were performed to investigate the effects of stirrup spacing, rebar diameter, and corrosion rate on bond strength of deformed bars in reinforced concrete. Twelve pull-out specimens with different stirrup spacing, rebar diameter, and corrosion rate were prepared following the RILEM RC6 guidelines. The test results showed that the bond strength of specimens with stirrups increased when the corrosion rate was less than 3%, whereas it decreased when the corrosion rate was more than 3%. On the other hand, the bond strength of specimens without stirrups decreased as the corrosion rate increased. The effect of rebar diameter was less significant compared to those of stirrup spacing and corrosion rate. A bond strength model for pull-out specimens was proposed considering stirrup ratio and corrosion rate, and the model showed the lowest error among the previous models.

  • Concrete structures move wholly with concrete and rebar, so they endure external force, but recently the embedded rebar in concrete has been corroded by environmental, physical and chemical factors, the embedded rebar corrosion influences concrete structure to deteriorate structure capacity. To revaluate effect to deterioration of concrete structure according to corrosion of rebar, the researcher mostly examined into corrosion rebar and complex relation of concrete. In that there are flexural strength deterioration of corrosion concrete structure and the bond strength of concrete. But It has not sufficiently studied about physical characteristic of corrosion rebar itself. In this study I will compare specification of rebar through corrosion experiment with corrosion ratio of rebar according to diameter and revaluate. And will investigate the effect to strength characteristic of rebar according to corrosion ratio.

  • Crack formations are inevitable in reinforced concrete structures. To estimate crack widths, empirical formulae are used widely and indirect crack controling methods of limiting bar spacing and bar diameter are also used due to their simplicity. In EC2, the characteristic crack width is calculated by multiplying maximum crack spacing and average strain. In this study, limit values of maximum bar spacing and bar diameter are examined as the material characteristics are varied. Two models of tension stiffening effect and maximum crack spacing and their effects are evaluated. The obtained results are compared with the values obtained using KCI method. The results showed that a significant difference is found when two tension stiffening effect are employed, and an under-estimation is found when 2nd order tension stiffening effect and maximum crack spacing limit from Part II were implemented. Therefore, a rational indirect crack control method attained using the tension stiffening effect of 2nd order form is needed. Also, a consistency in serviceabiliy analysis in flexural members needs to be secured. In order to achieve these goals, two crack controling models are suggested.

  • Using non-invasive surface measurement method, the corrosion state of steel embedded inside concrete can be measured by placing four electrodes on the surface of concrete. Modeling of such measurements can provide valuable information as how interfacial impedance between corroded steel and surrounding concrete results in measured impedance on the concrete surface. In this paper, the modeling of surface measurement technique is used for the determination of the sensitivity of the measurements with respect to steel bar size embedded inside concrete and cover thickness. Modeling results indicated that steel bar sizes varied from D10 to D35 could be identified. Concrete cover thickness changes from 0.02 m to 0.1 m was also distinguished using the modeling scheme. The results confirm this modeling technique is capable of determining steel bar sizes and cover thickness, as well as simulating corrosion responses.

  • These days, workers in a construction site conduct a rebar bending process with a machine. This bending process has some problems such as long processing time and bad quality of the rebar. In order to manufacture a rebar having precision and machinability, we should study on Spring-back phenomenon. This phenomenon affects a shape of rebar after unloading due to restoration ability of material and it is influenced by bending angle, bending radius and a rebar diameter. The change of spring-back ratio according to the change of the parameters are analyzed by FEM. Consequently, Spring-back increases around $0.1^{\circ}$ as bending angle increases $10^{\circ}$. and it also increases around $0.6^{\circ}$ as diameter of rebar increases from ${\varphi}$ 10mm to ${\varphi}$ 16mm. while we can confirm that it decreases around $0.2^{\circ}$ as bending angle increases $10^{\circ}$.

  • Probing inside of concrete structures is one of the important steps in assessing condition of the structure. For the assessment, electromagnetic induction method and electromagnetic wave method are currently applied to the measurement of cover depth, and the detection of reinforcement embedded in concrete. To determine detection capability of locating reinforcement embedded in concrete, commercially available nondestructive testing (NDT) equipments have been tested. The equipments include electromagnetic wave system and electromagnetic induction system. In the tests, nine concrete specimens which have the dimensions of 1,000mm(length))${\times}$300mm(width) with thickness varying from 125mm to 150mm are used. The reinforcement are located at 45, 60, 100mm depth from the concrete surface. Horizontal reinforcement spacing has been set over 100mm. From the outcome, it is shown that error is increased as the diameter of reinforcement enlarge in case of using electromagnetic induction method. In case of using electromagnetic wave method, the detection of reinforcement embedded in deep is good in the view of reliability because of using the relative permittivity on the real cover depth.
