  • Many product line engineering methods use the feature model to structure commonality and variability among products in terms of features and to derive a product feature configuration, which is the set of features required for the development of a product. Features to be selected during product derivation are mainly determined based on the quality attributes required for a product. Most methods published so far derived an optimal product feature configuration through linear co-relationship between features and quality attributes. However, the co-relationship between features and quality attributes can be formulated as a non-linear function because of feature interactions. This paper proposes a method that derives an optimal product feature configuration considering feature interactions. Four product line cases are used to validate the proposed methods.

  • Photography is frequently associated with the death because it seems to remind us of our own mortality by representing the dead people. The indexical character of photography reinforces this association. Photography is used in many ceremonial activities and medias to represent death. Five types of death photography can be differentiated: funeral portrait, post-mortem photography, conflict and disaster photography, death penalty photography, anatomic and forensic photography. These death photographies serve for four individual and social purposes: mourning and remembrance, resistance and struggle, rule and domination, disclosure and accusation.

  • This paper explores envy and jealousy caused by conflicts between youth and old age in Philip Roth's The Dying Animal and Bumshin Park's Eungyo. In Roth's Novel, David became envious and jealous of a fictional man when he imagined "the pornography of jealousy." In this pornography, his imagined rival was a young man who was once David himself but was no longer young who might steal Consuela away from him. In this sense, David's envy towards this young rival can be called "self-envy." David considered sex an act of revenge on death. But his envy and jealousy undermined his power and effect. In Eungyo, envy and jealousy arose between Lee and Seo when they came into conflict because of Lee's literary talent and Eungyo. At first, Seo admired Lee. But he grew envious of Lee's talent when he gained popularity and success by publishing Lee's novels under his own name. He was engulfed in jealousy when he detected Lee's sexual desire for Eungyo. He even insulted Lee's old age, which enraged Lee. Lee's rage was mixed with his envy toward the young and his sense of betrayal against Seo. With Seo's death, all these negative feelings disappeared. Instead, Lee was captivated by the pulsing breath of life and its beauty he observed in Eungyo.

  • Event detection and recognition is an active and challenging topic recent in Computer Vision. This paper describes a new method for recognizing events caused by human motion from video sequences in an office environment. The proposed approach analyzes human motions using Motion History Image (MHI) sequences, and is invariant to body shapes. types or colors of clothes and positions of target objects. The proposed method has two advantages; one is thant the proposed method is less sensitive to illumination changes comparing with the method using color information of objects of interest, and the other is scale invariance comparing with the method using a prior knowledge like appearances or shapes of objects of interest. Combined with edge detection, geometrical characteristics of the human shape in the MHI sequences are considered as the features. An advantage of the proposed method is that the event detection framework is easy to extend by inserting the descriptions of events. In addition, the proposed method is the core technology for event detection systems based on context-aware computing as well as surveillance systems based on computer vision techniques.

  • The purpose of this study is to reconsider whether Temple in William Faulkner's Requiem for a Nun has grown morally. Temple in Sanctuary, the previous work was raped with a corn cob by Popeye and perjured in the court, resulting in Lee Goodwin's brutal death. Now she is now a mother of two children and a wife of Gowan Stevens, but she cannot get out of the past and tries to run away with Pete, Red's brother, but she was resisted by Nancy Mannigoe, a nanny. Nancy tries to stop Temple sacrificing herself and Temple's baby. When confronting Nancy who accepted her death sentence without hesitation, Temple realized her past guilt which never fades out. A lapse of 20 years between Sanctuary and Requiem provides Temple and author himself opportunities for spiritual and moral growth in spite of painful realization that the past is never past. On the other hand, Faulkner tells the history and the past of Jefferson elaborating the description of the courthouse and the jail. Both are correlated in thematic perspective, the former representing humanity's need for security, the latter the opposite impulse toward aggression and destruction. but together represent the presentness of the past and the fluidity of time.

  • Cyclina sinensis is an edible bivalve inhabiting wide tidal flats which are exposed to the air at ebb tide along the western coast of Korea. Over the period of June to September 1971, some specimens from a tidal flat near Inchon were submerged in sea water with various concentrations of ammonium hydroxide added and careful observations were made on their fertilization, early development, and metamorphosis of the larvae. The highest rate of fertilization was demonstrated by individuals treated with 1/1000 normal solution of ammonium hydroxide and their fertilized eggs followed normal development, i.e., two cell stage 1.5 hours after fertilization, blastular stage after 4 hours, and trochophore stage after 6 hours. Within 24 hrs after fertilization C. sinensis larvae have acquired the form of early straight-hinge veliger with the mean prodissoconch I with the length of $110\mu$. It takes seven days to get the umbo stage with the mean shell length of $190\mu$ and twenty days to get the morphosing stage with the mean shell length of $260\mu$. The larvae were cultured to the metamorphosing stage with the shell length of $270\mu$ in the laboratory condition.

  • In 1749, during an incident near the Tumen River in Hunchun, six people, all Qing ginseng pickers, were killed by seven Korean soldiers from the Chosŏn garrison. The Chosŏn soldiers encountered the ginseng pickers on the border and agreed to exchange goods, but when they failed to receive the proper price for rice, the soldiers became angry and decided to attack the Qing ginseng pickers. The seven Korean criminals were executed a year and a half after the incident. The whole process regarding the arrest and investigation of the criminals, as well as the official exchanges between the Qing and Chosŏn governments, were recorded in detail in the Chosŏn document written in Chinese and the Qing documents written in Manchu. In dealing with this murder case, the Qing local officials focused on identifying the murdered victims, clarifying the victims' responsibilities, and disposing of their remaining belongings. On the other hand, the Chosŏn government focused on providing reports quickly to the Qing officials about the investigation of the criminals. In doing so, it tried to reduce the risk of any possible problems that the murder case on the border could cause in its relations with the Qing government. The relevant records on this murder case show various aspects of the Qing and Chosŏn relations, including the contacts between the people along the Tumen River, border trespassing, material exchanges, rules about ginseng picking, and border patrols. This case also reveals that the Qing and Chosŏn people from various classes had different relationships depending on their respective interests.
