  • This paper describes the optimization of the spectrum sensing in terms of the throughput of the cognitive radio (CR)system. The conventional rapers do not describe the optimization problem of the spectrum sensing by considering the channel search and channel move of the CR system to be caused by the appearance of the incumbent user. However this paper evaluates the throughput of the CR user by considering the situations such as the channel search and channel move additionally. Also, this paper suggests the sensing structure being separated the data receiver from sensing receiver, and compares the sensing performance for the same receiver structure of sensing and communication with that for the separated sensing receiver in terms of the throughput of the CR user. The numerical result demonstrates that the performance of the throughput efficiency is improved by the proposed sensing receiver to be separated from the data communication path.

  • Cognitive Radio Ad-Hoc Networks (CRAHNs) enable to overcome the shortage of frequency resources due to the increase of radio services. In order to avoid interference with the primary user in CRANH, channel sensing to check the idle channel is required, and when the primary user appears, the time delay due to handover should be minimized through fast idle channel selection. In this paper, throughput was improved by reducing the number of channel sensing and preferentially sensing a channel with a high probability of being idle, using reinforcement learning. In addition, we proposed a multi-channel MAC (Medium Access Control) protocol that can minimize the possibility of collision with the primary user by sensing the channel at the time of data transmission without performing periodic sensing. The performance was compared and analyzed through computer simulation.

  • We consider the design of opportunistic spectrum access schemes where secondary users can opportunistically access unused spectrum in non-slotted primary systems. Two non-slotted spectrum sensing and access schemes for secondary users are considered. We present experimental results that demonstrate the performance of the considered schemes.

  • Recently, cognitive radio technology has been spotlighted for the efficient use of limited frequency technology. The most important part of CR is to protect the incumbent user's communications. Therefore, CR user should be sensing the currently using channel and another hopping channel for sudden appearance of the Incumbent User. In this paper, we propose the cooperative channel sensing to protect the IU considering each CR user's remained power and sensing-zone, sense the spectrum bands in a fairly distributed manner and share the results among the users within respective sensing zone. Sensing scheme including inband sensing and outband sensing is utilized. The inband sensing is in charge of current using channel scanning while the outband sensing mainly cares about other channels. The performance results by computer simulations show that our sensing scheduling scheme reduces the number of sensing nodes and saves energy need to channel sensing.

  • For the flexible frequency utilization, cognitive radio technique has been prominently considered. The most important requirement in cognitive radio networks is to protect the communications of primary users. Spectrum sensing task by secondary users should be seriously considered in cognitive radio networks, since the spectrum sensing process makes their current quality of service worse. In this paper, we propose the channel sensing scheduling method that keeps the requirements for protecting the primary and guarantee the secondary user's quality of service as possible. The quality of service of secondary user is analyzed in terms of packet delay and loss while the protection-requirements in terms of sensing interval and sensing time predefined. In numerical analysis, we can get appropriate parameters which guarantee QoS in various environment. And simulation results show that this method can improve the performance, delay and the number of transmitted packets against consecutive sensing method.

  • Recently IEEE 802.22 WG has considered Cognitive Radio (CR) technology to overcome shortage of communication channels. For using CR technology, accurate and rapid sensing method selection is extremely important. According to the channel sensing method, it is of the utmost importance because it can affect the incumbent system protection. So, optimum selection of channel sensing method is very important. IEEE 802.22 gives the solution, name of fine sensing, but the solution can not adapt to various networks. So in this paper we propose Policy-based Channel Sensing Architecture and Algorithms for Cognitive Radio Networks. The proposed channel sensing architecture and algorithms can reduce both primary system detection time and quiet time in our simulation. Among the proposed sensing algorithm, channel division round robin sensing reduce average detection time up to 70% compare to fine sensing method in IEEE 802.22.

  • Spectrum sensing is a critical functionality of CR network; it allow secondary user to detect spectral holes and to opportunistically use under-utilized frequency bands without causing harmful interference to primary use. Recently, wideband service has been increase for processing abundance of data traffic. So CR network needs a realizable implementation design of spectrum sensing for wideband. To get high resolution performance of wideband sensing must precede algorithm processing for reliability signal detection. By the way, the performance of spectrum sensing can be degraded due to fading and shadowing. In order to overcome this problem, we propose system model of wideband sensing scheme on energy detected collaborative technique. we divide wideband into narrowbands and use narrowbands to detect signal excepting some narrowbands including bad channel through the CSI. And we simulate and analyze in terms of detection probability with various SNR.

  • In this paper, we propose out-of -band collaborative spectrum sensing scheme in the cognitive radio (CR) base station operated by the multiple frequency channels. Also this paper presents the signal detection results for ATSC digital TV signal as an incumbent signal and derives signal detection probability and false alarm probability for the out-of-band collaborative spectrum sensing scheme in frequency selective Rayleigh fading channel. Numerical results demonstrate that the sensing performance is improved by the out-of-band collaborative spectrum sensing in the case that the incumbent signal powers measured by the CR terminals of the multiple frequency channels are almost similar.
