  • Demand Responsive Transit (DRT) services are becoming necessary as part of not only alternative transportation means for elderly and mobility impaired passengers, but also sustainable and flexible transportation options in urban area due to the development of communication technologies and Location Based Services (LBS). It is difficult to investigate the system performance regarding vehicle operational schemes and vehicle routing algorithms due to the lack of commercial software to support door-to-door vehicle simulation for larger area. This study proposes a simulation framework to evaluate innovative and flexible transit systems focusing on various vehicle routing algorithms, which describes data-type requirements for simulating door-to-door service on demand. A simulation framework is applied to compare two vehicle dispatch algorithms, Nearest Vehicle Dispatch (NVD) and Insertion Heuristic (IH) for real-time shared-taxi service in Seoul. System productivity and efficiency of the shared-taxi service are investigated, comparing to the conventional taxi system.

  • V2X 차량 안전 시스템은 ITS 환경에서 주행하는 모든 차량들이 V2V 혹은 V2I 기반의 협력통신을 통해 안전 서비스를 제공하는 기술이다. 이는 실제 도로환경에서의 실험, 즉 Field Operational Tests(FOTs)를 통한 검증과 평가 수행이 요구된다. 그러나, 일반적으로 실 도로환경에서 시스템 및 서비스에 대한 검증과 평가는 많은 시간과 비용을 필요로 한다. 따라서 실제 도로 주행 테스트 전에 V2X 안전 서비스의 기본적인 성능을 검증할 V2X 시뮬레이션 방안이 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 국외의 V2X 시뮬레이터 기술 개발 동향과 함께 차량 간 통신 시뮬레이션 분야에서 연구되고 있는 주요 이슈들을 알아보고 이를 극복하기 위한 연구 방호별 제시한다.

  • Performance of vehicles depends mainly on engine performance, transmission gear ration and shifting pattern. In this paper, determination method of gear ratios and shifting pattern for automatic transmission equipped vehicles has been proposed. Computer programs for gear ratio determination and shifting pattern decision using optimal design technique have been developed for the purpose of increasing vehicle acceleration performance. For preceding study, computer simulation of vehicle performance is carried out using numerical technique.

  • In this study, drivers' longitudinal car control, subjective fatigue, and perceived fidelity were compared between 2D and 3D display driving simulation. The results can be summarized as followings. First, in all target speed conditions, the drivers tended to drove faster in 2D display condition than 3D display condition. Second, speed deviation from target speed increased as target speed decreased. Third, distances between the lead vehicle and the driver's vehicle were significantly reduced in the 3D display condition when the speeds of the lead vehicle were relatively fast(i. e., over 80km/h). Fourth, although the perceived fidelity was not significantly different between the two display conditions, subjective fatigue was higher in the 3D display condition than in the 2D display condition.

  • Personal rapid transit (PRT) is a new transportation system, which is energy efficient and brings high quality of customer service. Customers arrive dynamically at stations and request transportation service. In this paper, we propose a new online PRT dispatching algorithm for pickup and delivery of customers. We adopt the nearest neighbor dispatching rule, which is known as performing well in general. We extend the rule with bipartite matching in order to deal with multiple vehicles and customers at the same time. We suggest a systematic way for selecting vehicles that will be considered to be dispatched, since the scope with which vehicles are selected may affect the system performance. We regard the empty travel distance of vehicles and the customer waiting time as the performance measures. By using simulation experiments, it has been examined that the scope of dispatching affects the system performance. The proposed algorithm has been validated by comparing with other dispatching rules for transportation services. We have shown that our algorithm is more suitable for PRT operating environment than other dispatching rules.

  • A study is to research crash barriers for vehicles that prevent road breakaway of vehicles and protect car passengers and pedestrians as absorbing impulse. Protection performance tests on vehicle passengers were simulated by using a LS-DYNA program. Through repetitive simulation on various speed and angles, passenger protection performance according to different impact condition was contemplated. Variable setting for the simulation was calculated as the mean weight of domestic car sales. By analyzing NASS (National Automotive Sampling System) of NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) of the U.S., the actual speed and collision angle section of accidents were computed. As a result, we confirmed that THIV (Theoretical Head Impact Velocity) and PHD (Post-impact Head Deceleration) are increased according to the impact speed and angle. Also, when the vehicle hit the guardrail post, we could be confirmed that the passenger protection performance greatly decreased.

  • It is practically hard to measure vehicle fuel consumption required to evaluate the energy-related governmental policies and traffic management strategies; the existing methods are too simplified due to the limited field data available. Existing methods are even unable to reflect the amount of fuel consumed when vehicles accelerate and decelerate, and such technical limitations have reduced the quality of the policy evaluation. This study proposes a new fuel consumption model that simultaneously considers the effects of both cruising speed and acceleration/deceleration of vehicles. A new fuel consumption model was developed based on the simulation data generated by AVL Cruise, a vehicle simulation program. The estimated by the proposed model was compared against the one from the existing method. Comparison results showed that the proposed model provided much reliable estimate (fuel consumption) than the other did.

  • Due to the characteristics of the railway system, a fleet consists of multiple railway vehicles, and a project contract is made by supplying multiple fleets to the customer. If the project fails to meet the due date, the manufacturer must compensate for the delay to the customer. In this paper, we analyze the operation strategies of the railway vehicle manufacturing factory using simulation, in which the layout adopts the concept of the flow lines, and when shortages of parts are considered. If there is a shortage of parts, the subsequent assembly process cannot proceed due to the nature of the assembly process. Thus, in order to overcome this problem, three strategies for performing assembly work are presented when the events of shortages are occurred. We also compare the strategies with respect to reduce the total cost which includes labor costs and compensation costs for delay.

  • Recently, an ALV (Automated Lifting Vehicle) is studied as an efficient transporter, which can reduce the waiting time during ship operation in a container terminal. There are little of studies on an ALV system considering dynamic factors after analysing the cooperation between equipments. The performance of an ALV depends on self-loading & unloading of an ALV, vehicle’s interference, and occupancy of an available transfer point under dynamic environment. So, it is very difficult to evaluate the productivity of a container terminal with an ALV system. Therefore the simulation model with operational rules that be apt for an ALV system must be developed. Also the model has to consider the characteristics of interface operations and vehicle traffic. Supposing an container terminal with perpendicular layout, this study analyses the process of container handling operation and proposes operational rules such as the ALV dispatching, routing algorithm and so on for a model. We developed a simulation model for a container terminal with an ALV system using object-oriented simulation software, Anylogic.

  • 교량(橋梁)의 동적응답(動的應答)을 파악하기 위해서는 노면(路面)조도에 의해 영향을 받는 차량의 거동 파악이 중요하게 된다. 최근, 교량의 상판(床版)등에서 발생되는 피로(疲勞)의 영향에 대한 관심이 고조되어 서서히 교통진동의 3차원 모델링에 대한 중요성이 대두되고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 교량에 발생되는 교통진동(交通振動)의 영향을 좀더 정확히 표현하기 위하여 3차원 해석 방법을 제시한다. 해석방법으로 유한 요소법이 이용되었고, 차량 모델링은 하나의 전축(煎軸)과 두 개의 후축(後軸)을 갖는 8자유도계(自由度系) 차량 모델을 이용하여 수치 시뮬레이션을 수행하였다. 동적(動的) 연립미분방정식(聯立微分方程式)의 해법에서는 Newmark-${\beta}$법(法)을 이용하였고, 가상 노면요철(凹凸)모델링에서는 정상불규칙과정(定常不規則過程)으로 가정하여 노면 요철(凹凸)을 생성하여 시뮬레이션에 사용하였다. 또한 실제 차량 및 교량에서의 실측치와 비교하여 모델의 검증을 수행하였다.
