Design of Dual Beam Automotive Laser Radar (차량용 듀얼 빔 레이저 레이더의 설계)

  • In this paper, we develop a dual beam automotive laser radar system which improve the defect of conventional unipolar one beam laser scheme. We introduce an SNR improving method using bipolar signal synthesizing scheme from two unipolar signals at the receiving unit via differential structure by allocating bipolar m-sequence into the two laser wavelengths, which have similar property like 2-D OOC, and investigate its performance. Simulation results show that the proposed dual beam scheme can have 3dB SNR improvement as compared with conventional unipolar signaling laser radar system. Also, we show the simple interference rejection scheme using differential structures. The proposed scheme have a merit to obtain additional 3dB SNR gain applied into the excellent results based on unipolar optical signal studied lately.

  • Conventional traffic detection sensors such as loop detectors and image sensors are expensive to install and maintain and require different detection algorithms depending on the night and day and have a disadvantage that the detection rate varies widely depending on the weather. On the other hand, the millimeter-wave radar is not affected by bad weather and can obtain constant detection performance regardless of day or night. In addition, there is no need for blocking trafficl for installation and maintenance, and multiple vehicles can be detected at the same time. In this study, a multi-target detection algorithm for a radar sensor with this advantage was devised / implemented by applying a conventional single target detection algorithm. We performed the evaluation and the meaningful results were obtained.

  • 차량 운전자의 안전을 보장하고 운전의 편의를 돕기 위한 기술로는 차량용 레이더, 타이어 공기압 감지 장치, 원격시동 장치, 지리정보시스템 등이 있다. 그중 타이어는 차량의 수많은 부품들 중 도로와 직접 접촉하는 부품으로 타이어의 상태는 운전자의 안전에 직접적인 관련이 있다. 과거 포드 자동차에서는 파이어스톤에서 납품한 타이어 전량을 리콜하는 대규모 교체사례가 있었다. 초기 타이어 공기압 감지 장치는 일부 고급차종에만 적용되었는데 최근 압력 및 온도 측정용 센서의 높은 신뢰성과 양산비용의절감 및 국가의 정책적 요소가 복합적으로 작용하여 일반 차량에도 보급화가 진행중이다. 본 논문에서는 오늘날 타이어 공기압 감지 장치를 양산하는 업체들의 기술 동향을 분석하여 타이어 공기압 감지 시스템의 도입 배경, 국내외 기술기준 현황, 타이어 공기압 감지 시스템을 형성하는 기본 구조, 높은 정밀도를 가지는 반도체 센서 및 관련 기술에 대해 살펴본다.

  • A vehicle radar has been studied to avoid the collision of vehicles. A vehicle radar using direct sequence-ultra wideband (DS-UWB) measures the distance between a vehicle and an objective with a sufficient time margin. Therefore, the receiver should estimate the distance by processing the short UWB pulse rapidly. There have been several investigations for distance measuring based on DS-UWB signals. In this paper, we propose a novel method for rapid measuring processing time. Simulation results show that the proposed method has a shorter processing time than the conventional method.

A Virtual Array Design of 77 GHz Vehicle Radar for Detecting Moving Targets (이동표적 탐지를 위한 77 GHz 차량레이더용 가상배열 설계)

  • This paper specifies on a virtual array design of a 77 GHz vehicle radar for detecting a moving target at a time division transmit and a near range. The virtual array designed reduces a hardware complexity, weight and price. However, a synthesized beam of the virtual array has a high side lobe by a phase distortion of receive signals when the moving target is detected at the time division transmit. For this, a subarray receive signal with a same phase is used and the side lobe of the synthesized beam is suppressed above at least 10 dB. Also the virtual array has a beam distortion by a spherical wave when the vehicle radar operates at near range. So a boresight receive signal of each target range is compensated at each receive signal. Therefore the synthesized beam with compensation recovers a normal main lobe and improves the side lobe about 10~15 dB.

  • 본 논문에서는 차량 충돌 예방 장거리 레이더용 고 이득 및 저 잡음 77GHz CMOS 저 잡음 증폭기를 제안한다. 이러한 회로는 2볼트 전원전압 및 77GHz의 주파수에서 동작한다. 이러한 회로는 TSMC $0.13{\mu}m$ 혼성신호/고주파 CMOS 공정($f_T/f_{MAX}=120/140GHz$)으로 설계되어 있다. 전체 칩 면적을 줄이기 위해 실제 수동형 인덕터 대신 전송선을 이용하였다. 제안한 회로는 최근 발표된 연구결과에 비해 34.33dB의 가장 높은 전압이득과 5.6dB의 가장 낮은 잡음지수 특성을 보였다.

  • In this paper, a 24GHz FMCW radar system which measures the range and the relative velocity of a vehicle in close range is described. The intended ranging accuracy is 15cm and a possible system concept to achieve this objective is presented. The VCO nonlinearity correction method using a reference delay-line and the data extrapolation algorithms based on AR(autoregressive) model are applied. The implemented system shows relatively satisfactory results in ranging accuracy.

Advanced OS-CFAR Processor Design with Low Computational Effort (순서통계에 근거한 개선된 CFAR 검파기의 하드웨어 구조 제안)

  • An OS-CFAR (Ordered Statistics CFAR) based on a sorting algorithm is useful for automotive radar systems in a multi-target situation. However, while the typical cell-averaging CFAR has low computational complexity, the OS-CFAR has much higher computation effort. In this paper, we design the new OS-CFAR architecture with a low computational effort. In the proposed method, since one time sorting processing is performed for the decision of the CFAR threshold, the whole processing effort can be reduced. When the fast sorting technique is employed, the computing time of the proposed OS-CFAR is always much shorter compared with typical OS-CFAR method regardless of the data size. We also present the processing result of proposed architecture using the real radar data.

  • This paper introduces a radar signal processing technique for intelligent rear view monitoring of an automobile. The linear frequency modulation-frequency shift keying(LFM-FSK) waveform, which is the combination of frequency modulation continuous wave(FMCW) and frequency shift keying(FSK) waveform, is employed to simultaneously estimate the range, relative aspect angle, and velocity of an automobile. Hence, it can be applied to monitor the rear view of an automobile. FMCW waveform has high range resolution capability, but it produces ghost targets under a multiple target environment. In contrast, FSK waveform can provide high velocity resolution and avoids the problem of ghost targets. However, it fails to identify multiple targets along the radar's line of sight. With LFM-FSK waveform, we can estimate the ranges and velocities of multiple targets with very high resolution, which avoids the ghost target problem of an FMCW waveform. Simulation result shows that LFM-FSK wavefrom is suitable for use in the lane change assistance system for an automobile.

  • In this paper, a single balanced diode Mixer for the homodyne FMCW radar to detect distance and velocity of a vehicle target is designed and implemented using a microstrip line and two schottky barrier beam lead diodes. This mixer is optimally designed to have less a conversion loss within the 100 MHz bandwidth with a little LO injection power and a higher LO isolation as soon as possible through the embedded electrical length of microsrtrip line placed between the coupler and diode matching, considering together LO matching condition. The measured results show 6 dB of conversion loss, 23 dB LO/RF isolation and 3 dBm of input 1l dB, respectively.
