Magnetic nondestructive testing is very useful far detecting a crack on the surface or near of the surface of the ferromagnetic materials. The distribution of the magnetic flux leakage (DMFL) on a specimen has to be obtained quantitatively to evaluate the crack. The magnetic camera is proposed to obtain the DMFL at the large lift-off. The magnetic camera consists of a magnetic source, magnetic lens, analog to digital converters (ADCs), interface, and computer. The magnetic leakage fields or the distorted magnetic fields from the object, which are concentrated on the magnetic lens, are converted to analog electrical signals tv arrayed small magnetic sensors. These analog signals are converted to digital signals by the ADCs, and are stored, imaged, and processed by the interface and computer. However the magnetic camera has limitations with respect to converting and switching speed, full range and resolution, direct memory access (DMA), temporary storage speed and volume because common ADCs were used. Improved techniques, such as those that introduce the operational amplifier (OP-Amp), amplify the signal, reduce the connection line, and use the low pass filter (LPF) to increase the signal to noise ratio are necessary. This paper proposes the exclusive embedded ADC including OP-Amp, LPF, microprocessor and DMA circuit for the magnetic camera to satisfy the conditions mentioned above.
In scanning laser optical tweezers, high speed scanning stages are used to manipulate a laser beam spot. Due to the inertia of the stage, the output scanning signal decreases with increased frequency of the input signal. This discrepancy in the signals is difficult to observe since most of the energy from the laser beam is blocked out to avoid CCD damage. In this paper, we propose two methods to alleviate these problems. Firstly, frequency responses of piezo stages are measured to analyze the signal drops and the input signal is compensated accordingly. Secondly, an overlay of the scanning path is drawn on the live monitoring screen to enhance the visibility of the scanning path. The result is a drop-compensated scanning with clear path view.

We have developed a millimeter-wave passive imaging system with reflector for detection of concealed objects. We have designed a millimeter-wave sensor, control device for reflector control, and a lens for focusing of millimeter-wave signal at center frequency of 94GHz. DC signal from millimeter-wave sensor output is filtered by low pass filter and amplified by video amplifier, and then converted into digital signal by using ADC/DAQ. This signal is image processed by computer, and it is possible to obtain millimeter-wave passive image with resolution of $18{\times}64$ pixel using the fabricated system. It is shown that we can obtain the image of men and concealed object with the system.
Defocused Fourier plane holograms are stored in disk-type holographic memories where thin recording media are used, the areal storage density per hologram and the intensity uniformity of the signal beam at the recording plane are studied. As the pixel pitch of the spatial light modulator that represents binary data increases, the storage density per hologram increases if exact Fourier holograms are stored. When defocused Fourier plane holograms are stored, however, we show that there exists an optimal pixel pitch that maximizes the area storage density per hologram in general, to increase the areal storage density per hologram, f/# of the Fourier transform lens that focuses the data image should be as small as possible. In this case, not only the intensity distribution at the recording plane but also the recording area becomes very sensitive to the degree of defocusing. Therefore, even if the exact Fourier plane holograms are stored, the defocusing effect owing to the medium thickness should be taken into account to achieve the maximal areal storage density per hologram.logram.
We observed the absorptive optical bistability in the single layer amorphous $As_2S_3$ thin film which has an isolated electron pairs at roomtemperature, for the frist time, $Ar^+$ laser beam (λ=514.5 nm) was used as a light source and was focused by thin lens. The experiment was performed in cavityless system and the occurrence of optical bistability in this material could be explained by the temperature-dependent absorption coefficient of the sample. Also, this effect was explained by the reversible shift of the absorption edge in this material. The condition of optical bistability is determined by detuning value ($a_0L$) and this value was 0.12 when thikness of that sample was about 0.8 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. The switching was observed clealy when light intensity is 150~180 mW and the swiching time was about $10^{-4}$ s.

A novel technique for fine particle beam focusing under the atmospheric pressure is introduced using a radiation pressure assisted aerodynamic lens. To introduce the radiation pressure in the aerodynamic focusing system, a 25m plano-convex lens having 2.5mm hole at its center is used as an orifice. The particle beam width is measured for various laser power, particle size, and flow velocity. In addition, the effect of the laser characteristics on the beam focusing is evaluated comparing an optical tweezers type and pure gradient force type. For the pure aerodynamic focusing system, the particle beam width was decreased as increasing particle size and Reynolds number. Using the optical tweezers type, the particle beam width becomes smaller than that of the pure aerodynamic focusing system about $16\%,\;11.4\%\;and\;9.6\%$ for PSL particle size of $2.5{\mu}m,\;1.0{\mu}m,\;and\;0.5{\mu}m$, respectively. Particle beam width was minimized around the laser power of 0.2W. However, as increasing the laser power higher than 0.4W, the particle beam width was increased a little and it approached almost a constant value which is still smaller than that of the pure aerodynamic focusing system. For pure gradient force type, the reduction of the particle beam width was smaller than optical tweezers type but proportional to laser power. The radiation pressure effect on the particle beam width is intensified as Reynolds number decreases or particle size increases relatively.

The particle beam width is measured for various laser power, particle size, and flow velocity. In addition, the effect of the laser characteristics on the beam focusing is evaluated comparing an Ar-Ion continuous wave laser and a pulsed Nd-YAG laser. For the pure aerodynamic focusing system, the particle beam width was decreased as increasing particle size and Reynolds number. For the particle diameter of 0.5 ${\mu}m$, the particle beam was broken due to the secondary flow at Reynolds number of 694. Using the Ar-Ion CW laser, the particle beam width becomes smaller than that of the pure aerodynamic focusing system about 16 %, 11.4 % and 9.6 % for PSL particle size of 2.5 ${\mu}m$, 1.0 ${\mu}m$, and 0.5 ${\mu}m$ respectively at the Reynolds number of 320. Particle beam width was minimized around the laser power of 0.2 W. The radiation pressure effect on the particle beam width is intensified as Reynolds number decreases or particle size increases relatively. On the other hand, using 30 Hz pulsed Nd-YAG laser, the effect of the radiation pressure on the particle beam width was not distinct unlike Ar-Ion CW laser.
We analyze the characteristics of the coherent beam combination of lasers by monitoring the speckle pattern of the beam reflected from a scattering medium. Three collimated laser sources with high coherence are focused on a scattering target using a lens, and we then examine the speckle pattern of the returned beam in the Fourier domain. We observe that the size of the speckle pattern changes, depending on the focused-beam size or degree of spatial overlap of the three beams. Furthermore, through Fourier-domain analysis of the speckle pattern we obtain the monitoring variable to qualify the efficiency of the coherent beam combination.

Corrosion on the surface of a structure can generate cracks or cause walls to thin. This can lead to fracturing, which can eventually lead to fatalities and property loss. In an effort to prevent this, laser imaging technology has been used over the last ten years to detect thin-plate structure, or relatively thin piping. The most common laser imaging was used to develop a new technology for inspecting and imaging a desired area in order to scan various structures for thin-plate structure and thin piping. However, this method builds images by measuring waves reflected from defects, and subsequently has a considerable time delay of a few milliseconds at each scanning point. In addition, the complexity of the system is high, due to additional required components, such as laser-focusing parts. This paper proposes a laser imaging method with an increased scanning speed, based on excitation and the measurement of standing waves in structures. The wavenumber of standing waves changes at sections with a geometrical discontinuity, such as thickness. Therefore, it is possible to detect defects in a structure by generating standing waves with a single frequency and scanning the waves at each point by with the laser scanning system. The proposed technique is demonstrated on a wall-thinned plate with a linear thickness variation.
